Agreed. But Pruitt isn’t winning either. Saban can get by treating people like crap. Pruitt isn’t Saban.
He didn’t win his first three seasons either but you don’t get there if your not pulling I. The same direction..... I have had bosses talk to me like I was sh&t and I was able to emotionally able to handle and get the job done.

I mean I would be fine with any on the list. I'd be more excited for others, but I'd be behind these hires because they feel like an obvious upgrade:

Freeze
Napier
Fickell
Herman
Gus
O'Brien
Marrone
I'd want to see Marrone's staff before I got super excited.. Are we going to get an ex NFL assistant QB coach for OC or someone like Yurcich?

Some said his record was meh but before him they were garbage. Had to be a reason why an NFL team hired him. They don't usually hire meh college coaches.
Built Syracuse up to 2 8 win seasons. Improved Buffalo in his second year. Went to the AFC champ game with Bortles as his QB. Then a new GM came in and blew up the team. Would not be a bad hire at all, could probably bring a staff full of NFL experience as well

Pulled this from VQ from a guy who is quoting the athletic. We have everything that we need to be successful except a good HC. There is nothing holding us back except that. We have everything at TN that every other top team has.

Much of this pulled from the outstanding article in The Athletic by David Ubben found here: https://theathletic.com/2303984/202...y-pruitt-football/?source=user_shared_article
Bottom line: Tennessee is in the top 5 in the nation for commitment level but nowhere near there in terms of results and return on the investment.
  • Pruitt requested and received a third full-length practice field for the complex ~$667,000
  • Pruitt/Fitzgerald received ~$660,000 to renovate the weight room
  • Tennessee has been 1 of only 5 schools in the country with two $1 million coordinators
  • In 2020, Tennessee's assistant coaching pool ranked 8th in country in total $ spent
  • Tennessee's total football staff has increased from 48 to 71 people since Pruitt got here
  • Tennessee had more than $58 million in football expenses in 2018 and more than $51 million in 2017, according to the most recent data from the Knight Commission. In both years, Alabama was the only FBS program with higher expenses.
Putting aside 45-5 in the 90s, putting aside 102,455 showing up every Saturday, putting aside General Neyland, Johnny Majors and the rich history of football success on the Hill ....
These commitment figures are why Taxslayer Bowl wins are not enough.
These commitment figures are why losses to Georgia State, BYU, Kentucky, Arkansas are unacceptable.
These commitment figures are why 3-7 in year 3 should cost you your job.

No one should say that our administration doesn't care or isn't bought in. We are. They are giving the money. They just need to make a good hire. Billy Napier wants exactly what is written above. He wants to be able to have the resources he needs to win. We'll give him that and he will win. Or someone like that. We should be able to hire whoever we want.
Love it, good stuff. I'm on board with you on Napier. Seems like the best option who would take the job.

Former offensive lineman, came up as an offensive line coach through the ACC and SEC. Got an NFL bump off of our job in 2001.

Notably, he was Sean Payton's first hire when he got the job in New Orleans. He was Payton's first Offensive Coordinator.

Took the Syracuse job because he's an alum there, but realized pretty quickly it was a tough job. He had fine results, but bounced back to the NFL as soon as he got an opportunity with the Bills. He got the Bills opportunity based on his reputation under Payton, not because of anything at Syracuse.

Resigned as Bills coach after two years due to an ownership change. Took an assistant job in Jacksonville and got that interim job after Del Rio was fired. He stuck there because the players loved him.

Took the Jags to the AFC championship game with Bortles, but ownership blew it up shortly thereafter.
Damnit, I was out on Marrone until you wrote this.

Meh ... I dunno.
To me, Fleck ~ Butch ... cliche machine on steroids.
Maybe I'm wrong, they did have a great season in 2019, but he just reminds me of Butch in so many ways.
All just my opinion of course.
I'd take Fleck of what we have right now tho, I think.
There is literally not one thing they have in common other than fleck uses a motto. Fleck is much more like urban meyer. Runs his programs the same way.

I don't think there is any chance we go after or get him but he would be my #1 choice.

Will Chris Petersen coach again? The door isn't shut, but not right away

It sounds like Petersen doesn’t want to return to coaching football anytime soon. He's burned out, which is understandable considering how heavy and constant the workload is when running a program the size of Washington's.

If he got burned out at Washington with its work load, he'd die here... with that being said, if he's rekindled the fire, he's the best coach on the market outside of maybe Urban
