I like the dude but doesn't Pate sugar coat pretty much everything for everyone at risk of losing an audience?
I’ve seen him ridicule some teams. He defended UT when a USCjr fan asked which job is better. I’ve also seen him talk down on Auburn early this year when fans wanted Malzahn gone. He does weirdly give UT praise when we don’t deserve it.

I don’t care at this point.

Just wrap this sh*t up and hire somebody.

The fact it’s taken this long whether or not we should fire Pruitt is all you need to know about incompetent this administration is.

This whole scenario is getting old. I’m over it.

As has been alluded to by AV on a number of occasions, unlike other programs that we aspire to be like (Alabama, Ohio State, Florida, Georgia, LSU), we have not had everyone in the boat rowing in the same direction for two decades. While not as bad as it was, it remains a big problem. We do have much better leadership in Boyd and Plowman, and Fulmer. Contrast that with who was in those positions previously. (DiPetro/Cheek/Hamilton/Hart/Currie) But there are major boosters that are not and have never been behind Fulmer as AD and therefore Pruitt. The booster in-fighting continues. It makes the boat unsteady. The Academic side also does not play ball like they do at the other aforesaid schools. It has been that way for quite some time. Name Linda Bensel-Myers ring a bell? That was 20 years ago.
It’s really hard to say that Boyd, Plowman, and Fulmer have good leadership when you are seeing the self inflicted dysfunction play out right in front of our eyes.

Seems like pretty bad leadership imo

extending the guy that just won 6 in a row, signed a top 10 class and had what looked like a ton of momentum headed in to 20 was not the biggest wtf in this whole situation.

there are many, and they all came after. benefit of hindsight is a beautiful thing.

extending him after year 2 with NO MITIGATION was the WTF moment. Ya wanna bump his salary, or give him more pool for hiring assistants by all means restructure, but why remove mitigation?

The only justification for a no mitigation is when ya got a championship winning coach that you want to give him assurance he's safe until he decides he wants to retire or leave (Saban, Dabo, Day, etc.) not a 13-12 first time HC that's entering year 3 with huge turnover in his staff.

Didn't Butch prove that to us already that top 10 classes aren't the end all at UT for results? 2014-7th, 2015-4th and in 2017 we went 4-8...

is there another side to this that NONE of us are considering?

now, this would be the most un-Tennesseelike thing ever, but any chance the reason there's been nothing, is because there is nothing? and they're working behind the scenes to put together a truly top notch staff??? there are a lot of good coaches available right now that most anyone would like to have on their sidelines.

it would contradict a lot of the rumblings and go against what most of us believe about how Tennessee does things....

but to your point, even AP said it yesterday on the podcast, pruitt's working really hard on the 22 class, interviewing, looking at transfers etc.....

is there still a scenario that we do keep him and all our hand wringing is just that? i mean, for the most part, most of this, hell virtually all of it has been speculation from the get go. we've been in coach search mode since before the Vandy game....and coach still hasn't been fired.....?

I've been saying that keeping him was the default and it's still on the table. The investigation stirred up some things and it took a turn, but keeping him was always a possibility. He wouldn't be down to final on-campus interviews for staffers otherwise. If he wanted to negotiate a buyout, it would be playing out differently.

I found this gif of Nick Saban talking to UT fans.

Would rather have Napier than Gus. Also, why not consider Napier when, as I said, he went up to Iowa State and beat Campbell this year? He's also a TN guy and most likely would come here.

To be fair Napier was just born here, played HS in Georgia & college ball at Furman in South Carolina, so how strong of a TN guy is he really when teen to adult years he hasn't lived here?

Every year I think that our administration, boosters and AD could not possibly become any more dysfunctional and I am repeatedly proven wrong. You just can't make this crap up.
well, yeah...you can....i mean, we pretty much have been making this up as we've gone along for 2 months.....lol....sure it's based on some truths that are out there.....but what do we really know to be fact, as far as its context to whehter or not pruitt is retained/fired?

at the end of the day....if we wanted to fire him, we most certainly could have done that at any point the last three weeks of the season til now, and no one would have really been surprised, given the body of work.

it still makes no sense that this compliance investigation and the results of it are what his career at TN hinges on....none.

that it was made public is a pretty bad indicator, but again, the university and utad in particular, have nothing to gain by making that public.....

i've been on record about my feelings on this whole matter and how dumb i think the whole thing is.

but what is that really based on? speculation and innuendo mostly.....and some extrapolation from what is "known". that's it.
