Yes, legal action is an issue. Coaches retain counsel and threaten to sue. The threat of damages is real, because juries are unpredictable and you never know what they'll do. But most cases settle, so universities are also concerned about what might come out in discovery. Fired coaches are willing to spill everything and hang everyone out to dry. That almost always implicates people up the chain. So most schools would rather pay someone to go away with an NDA than assume the risk of a lawsuit. UT has done this multiple times-- most recently, Butch Jones, who made it clear he would sue and burn everybody.
Good ole' Butch....

Here's the thing: every major program does things that they don't want to get out. Some are worse than others, but there's an implicit agreement that "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas." And most of the time, it does. But when one thing gets out, an investigation can uncover a lot more. Few hands are clean.

Firing for cause is difficult... and it can be risky. A school can find grounds and threaten, but coaches can threaten right back. When all parties retain counsel, it becomes a legal game of who blinks first and who has the most to lose. Whatever the outcome, it's generally a costly win.
Do you think we move on or not in your opinion?

@LA Vol can we not just fire the guy, pay him, and get this over with? Does the investigation have to play out first? Do they not realize how much worse this is getting by dragging it out?

Fire him a month ago, hire Freeze, and VN is rocking and f’ing rolling right now. Always knew it was too easy of damn solution for UT to get right 🙄

I'm past laughing. I really am madder than hell. It's frustrating to realize I'm probably not gonna live long enough to see UT really be successful at football again. It makes me sad. Anyone involved in this mess that claims to love UT football, including Fulmer, is a damn liar in my opinion. It kills me that our admin/decision makers are so damn incompetent.
I agree weezer and I'm in my 40's..... Sad how far we have fallen!! Just like our country, we put our trust in leaders who claim to love our country/university and they've completely destroyed em both!!!! It's sad and scary, I have young adult kids and 2 grandkids that I hate it for the most.

and i'd have no doubt pruitt would do the same.

which again, makes no sense as to why the results of this investigation are the deciding factor. they don't need that to justify firing him, at least from a public perception standpoint, and there's got to be next to nothing to gain in the long run by saving the $12m buyout.

none of this makes any sense. at all.
Had this conversation yesterday.

Gonna make a bigger mess trying to tie the investigation into it for saving buyout $. Cut the check and move on if you re ready to part anyway.

Its gonna cause issues when you go to hire the next guy.

He has a losing record as a coach, but he did make it to the AFC Championship game in the 2017-18 season. After that the wheels fell off, but I think that has more because of Tom Coughlin and Shad Kahn than Doug Marrone.

You can see a clear change in philosophy in the trades, draft, and free agency. They went from having a 4 man front defense which was one of the best defenses in recent memory to immediately trading away their 4 best players and drafting consecutive 3-4 edge rushers in the 1st. It makes no sense.

I’m not saying Doug isn’t to blame but to make it to the AFC champ game with bortles as QB shows that you know how to coach.

I love that we all have just accepted that Marrone would be interested in this job - some of us are so sure of it that we're already campaigning against it.

That's no given. It can get much worse.
Right! I think that would be a realistic scenario given the landscape. I think the Lane, Freeze avenue is probably not even an option... Chadwell, Napier lots of upside but could just as likely flop, Herman, Gus or some one else currently in a job aren’t walking into a fire to save this place when they have options and little connections. Marine seems like the best realistic options that is as close to a sure thing IMO

I mean Marrone isn't the worst candidate by any means. Has UT ties, has college experience, and likely can build a pretty impressive staff. I've not heard of many skeletons in his closet either.

Still, it'll be a disappointing hire with Herman, Gus, and Freeze all out there.

What is the sales tax in Kentucky? Sucks they have both. Not having a state income tax makes Tennessee's more bearable.
KY has state income tax, sales tax and some cities have city income tax. I have a friend in Louisville and city income tax is 2.2%. 2.2% flat tax - no matter what you make - no deductions - no taxes to file. Employer takes it from your pay check.

He was left with suspect Minshew. I fought the whole damn city of Jax on how Minshew was trash last two years.
