Where specifically does the dysfunction at UT sit?

Is it the UT administration?
  • I ask because from all indications - Boyd and Plowman are good for the program. Or am I reading that wrong?

Is it the UT Athletic Department?
  • If we cleaned out the AD 3 years ago, where is the dysfunction? Is Fulmer alone just the problem?
  • Did Fulmer hire yes men/women in the AD and is driving it in wrong direction?

Is it the UT BOT?

Is it internal with the boosters?
Yes

they could have brought him back. i don't think they can any more. and we'll look back on this in 3 years, and realize that we'd of been better off had we just kept him another year. and that doesn't mean that he deserves it. but know what our options are at this point, i'll just go ahead and start the revisionist history right now, in the present.

lol.
I agree. And it’s a shame because they should’ve just made a move due to performance and none of this comes out. They just blew an opportunity with the best coaching pool in recent memory.

Absolutely. And we win more when everybody's on the same team.
Well. whatever happens in the near future, the focus should be on the latter imo...winning will come. I agree.

...But you need a HFC who can actually run the damn program IMO.

It's ugly. A risky strategy-- and unnecessary. There will be collateral damage.
Or maybe Pruitt is accountable for being so sloppy cheating (allegedly) and at least to the point where some level of violations exist that the university had to hire Glazier and his firm.

that's the thing, they could have done whatever they wanted, and either way, they could easily explain/justify the decision...but either way at least they've declared a direction and we'd be moving forward.

this is just dumb

i know you're being funny here....but i think is most fans would sit back and give it a few minutes of legitimate thought, this is all most really care about. "who to blame", which is why we're seeing all these different narratives being pushed around the past month or so....there's a void, and people need to fill it with something....so that's why we're getting what we get right now.
I'm past laughing. I really am madder than hell. It's frustrating to realize I'm probably not gonna live long enough to see UT really be successful at football again. It makes me sad. Anyone involved in this mess that claims to love UT football, including Fulmer, is a damn liar in my opinion. It kills me that our admin/decision makers are so damn incompetent.

For the lawyer folks out there is they any more risk than the buyout for firing him?

meaning he’s been told he’s coming back but this investigation is now the issue. Would he be able to sue to more $ if he could prove he wasn’t involved with the ncaa stuff???

Maybe that’s a dumb question but thought it was worth bringing up

@LA Vol is this a dumb question?

could liability beyond the buyout be an issue in stringing this thing out like we are?

No one seems to want to weigh in on where the continued dysfunction is at UT since we cleaned house 3 years ago. I've asked several times.

1. UT Admin. - Boyd/Plowman?

2. UT AD - Fulmer? AD staff?

3. UT BOT?

4. Boosters? - specifically where is the conflict between the boosters?

As has been alluded to by AV on a number of occasions, unlike other programs that we aspire to be like (Alabama, Ohio State, Florida, Georgia, LSU), we have not had everyone in the boat rowing in the same direction for two decades. While not as bad as it was, it remains a big problem. We do have much better leadership in Boyd and Plowman, and Fulmer. Contrast that with who was in those positions previously. (DiPetro/Cheek/Hamilton/Hart/Currie) But there are major boosters that are not and have never been behind Fulmer as AD and therefore Pruitt. The booster in-fighting continues. It makes the boat unsteady. The Academic side also does not play ball like they do at the other aforesaid schools. It has been that way for quite some time. Name Linda Bensel-Myers ring a bell? That was 20 years ago.

Not really. It's not up to us whether he stays or goes. If he's retained, comes back next year and coaches his ass off and makes this team competitive, people will re-embrace him. Recruits will be willing to come play for him. But he has to get it done on the field. This entire situation is of his own creation so I really do not understand the attempt to label fans as "unreasonable". It's not unreasonable to expect to win the games you're supposed to win. It's not unreasonable to be upset when you don't win the games you're supposed to win. I'm not mad we lost to Bama, UGA, or Florida this year. I'm mad that we lost to Arkansas, Kentucky, and Auburn. I'm mad that we kept going to JG even though his play absolutely warranted he be benched. I'm mad that we never learned how to cover a slant. I'm mad at any of a dozen incompetent coaching decisions Pruitt made. It's not unreasonable to expect to see some kind of progress in year 3, even with COVID restrictions. But we didn't see progress. We saw regression. We saw stagnation. Fans have every right to be upset by that. The very reason coaches command the salaries they do is because WE watch the games. We buy the merchandise. We invest in the product.
Ever since the fiasco surrounding the Currie deal, people think they can dictate the hiring and firing of the football coach. I knew when all that crap happened it was gonna come back around. We've already seen some posters say they want to organize the same kind of campaign to get Fulmer and Pruitt out of the picture. It will be a miracle if we ever get a coach that can turn this thing around. Who, in their right mind, would want to subject their family to this type of abuse from fans. We're well beyond the deep end here.

**** it. I'll be hanging out on the Henley Street Bridge pontificating on whether or not it's worth it to be reincarnated for a 16th time. I'm really thinking no. Whole world seems to be going to hell in a hand basket. Might just be time to reach Nirvana. The place, not the band. But I guess it's possible Kurt Cobain will be there.

Agreed

So to clarify - Boyd and Plowman are the problems and they do not support the football program?
No, that was more tongue in cheek. It appears to me that it's again a total cluster fudge. I think it probably stems mainly from factions that don't agree and are battling each other. Money working against money. To much power in to few hands.

I've said it before-- there's plenty of blame to go around, so no need to finger any one person. When things get this toxic, people aren't pulling together.

I'll say this, though-- it hasn't even gotten to the BOT and when it does, it'll be a fait accompli.

And there are a lot of boosters. They aren't a voting block. Most aren't employed by UT, and they don't run the university. They provide financial support and offer opinions-- many different opinions, and some are very strong opinions that carry more weight than others.

Everyone says that, but who are the players? Who is creating the divide? Does anyone really know this for certain?

BTW - blue font next time.

Thank you. The PO was on the left side of Raccoon Valley Rd, when I was a kid, exactly across from how it's drawn. My papaw went to Heiskell School.
Our families probably knew each other. If you're interested, there is a Heiskell Facebook group. They post all kinds of stuff. There is a listing of the postmasters and my grandfather is in there.
