Tom Herman thread [merged]

Tennessee football has fallen so far since the Peyton years. Accept the fact we are doomed to be the butt of the SEC.

I actually think Sark will have them competing close to OU in two years. He’s got the connections and the personality that people will like in Austin. Would have been a great fit here.
Quarterbacks...it’s all about quarterbacks.

Go pull for bama they seem to win all the time then your all your problems will be solved. Just get tired of everyone bashing the coach. Coaches can only do so much and then it’s up to the players. They either want it or they don’t.

Pulling for Bama used to be like pulling for Russia. Now, some even suggest it. Tennessee; meet the Titanic Resting Place.

Herman said that while fans might cheer on black student-athletes on the field, off the field fans can treat them entirely differently. “Can the average fan relate? No, they can’t,” In an interview with Austin American-Statesman’s Brian Davis. “There’s a double standard maybe a little bit. We’re going to pack 100,000 people into DKR and millions watch on TV that are predominantly white — not all of them certainly, but most of ’em white. We’re gonna cheer when they score touchdowns, and we’re gonna hug our buddy when they get sacks or an interception. But we gonna let them date our daughter? Are we going to hire them in a position of power in our company? That’s the question I have for America. You can’t have it both ways. And if you’re going to cheer them and love them for three-and-a-half hours a Saturday in the fall, you better have the same feelings for them off the field, because they’re human beings. They deserve the same amount of respect and human rights that all of us do in this country when we agreed on the social contract to be a member of the United States.”

Sounds like Herman was looking for a way to Disparage The Texas Brass. That speech sounds like something from the 70's. In today's climate, I found that story very discouraging. Respect is earned; 24/7, and if you do the right things , you will be in whatever position you aspire to. Ask Charles Davis if he had any impediments at UT. It's about want to. "Social In-Justice" is a total Myth today. Just a Leftist talking point; and an excuse to underachieve. Keep it real. I'm GLAD Texas fired Herman. Texas is as Liberal as any University; and absolutely toe the line regarding race relations.

Texas has won more games than Tennessee has lately and won the Sugar Bowl over Georgia a couple of years ago.
We also won a game over UGA a couple of years ago. Texas and Tennessee have been similar with their disappointing seasons. The difference is Tennessee plays a tougher schedule which has 2-3 extra losses

If so then why did they hire Herman?
His HC record at Houston. 22-4. I believe Texas should have kept him in this crazy year with a 7-3 record and 3 narrow defeats. Texas is too unrealistically impatient with their program in contrast to Tennessee who his way to lax in our committment to winning.

Texas players were actively recruiting AGAINST Texas and were telling prospects to look elsewhere. Keeping Herman would have negatively impacted the future roster even more.

He was the hottest coach in the year they hired him.If my memory is correct they outbid LSU for him.You just never know from year to year.Herman was good at Houston. Some guys just can’t handle the big stage.

I have watched every name thrown around here and yawned. A bunch of Jones and Pruitt equivalents that somehow desperate UT fans view as the next Saban. And then Hugh Freeze. We really want to risk everything on that guy? His record is murky to say the least. And then I see the other UT fires Tom Herman. Personally I think Herman was heading the right direction. 7-6 his first season. 10-3 season two with a Big 12 championship berth and great win over Georgia in the Sugar. 8-5 season three with a win over Utah in the bowl game. 7-3 in the weird 2020 season with another bowl win vs Colorado. 33-17 overall. Definitely a record Pruitt would envy. This is a coach I could get fired up about and might be worth the risk of yet another coaching change.

Dang it! I did not scroll down far enough. There is already a thread on this. Please delete or merge. My bad.

Do you think current Tennessee players are giving recruits a resounding thumbs up on the situation here? The stampede to the door of the transfer portal and NFL give some indication of the environment behind closed doors. There are disgruntled players everywhere.....coaches oversold their role, playtime, etc (as the article says). Herman would be a HUGE upgrade over the current HC...IMO.

Why were they actively telling recruits to look elsewhere? Any specifics ? The record was decent.
