That in itself would be a miracle but I suspect the admins would blow that to bits because it wouldn’t fit their vision of Tennessee football. Not so much Herman but the assistants
Yurcich was the top OC candidate when we ended up with Chaney...but would need that Chaney contract to be here. Pretty sure Ash isn’t in any Herman package deal.

Dude, Harrison Bailey will ball out under a Tom Herman HC.

He was a proven OC/QB coach before he became a proven HC. I'm still shocked Texas bailed on him after 7-3 and went with Sark who hasn't been a HC since 2015.

Because they need to learn the lesson Tennessee hasn’t learned still. Just because he’s connected to Saban doesent mean he’ll have his success.

Dickey had power that was gained because of his past but also because the AD functioned so well under him. You didn’t question his decisions because he’d made so many right ones and was smart enough to leave a highly successful women’s AD alone. He got football what it needed to win and people trusted his judgment there bc he’d been a coach and new what coaches needed. Fulmer was able to do a lot of that early on in terms of getting Pruitt tons of support and even picking up the slack to ensure Pruitt had a chance to succeed despite his inexperience. That all actuality worked out ok for a while and probably would’ve continued to work had Fulmer not had a prebuilt group that was always waiting for the right moment to undermine him (Dickey didn’t have to deal with that).

Although I can’t disagree more with what folks are saying Fulmer’s opinion on Pruitt is I think it would be a mistake to push both of them out. We need someone like Fulmer who still can get things done for football and who can keep one particular side from having all of the power but Fulmer can only do so much. Some other folks are going to have to stick their necks out from time to time if we are to keep improving football at the top of the to do list. We have technocrats to handle the business end of the things and if we need to add a check to Fulmer that’s fine too but we need his pull to help coaches get the things they need. I know it’s all the rage to allow someone with a random business degree to run an AD but 1. We don’t have an AD that functions that way and 2. The ones we had prior have done worse jobs.

All of this should’ve become moot as Fulmer should’ve been replaced after he staunched the bleeding but our factions were flat out afraid to lose out on getting their guy in and found Fulmer acceptable enough. No one anticipated Pruitt tanking so badly in year 3 when we’d been on an upward swing with him (especially with defense going from the bottom of CFB to the top 25 last season).

great post......could you expound a little on the bolded portion?

I liked Ty. But Bye.

Hope he does well.
Too many starters and contributors are leaving. At this point, unless Pruitt has secured a ton of replacements we don’t know about you pull a Texas and have Freeze or Herman or whoever calling Ty and others right now. This is a team that already had precious few stars on it. This has to end and soon.

What about Randy Sanders? Dave Clawson? Having 3 DC's in the modern game as your head coaching finalist?

Having Dave Clawson become the head coach under a Phil Fulmer AD would be as ridiculous as Tennessee hiring Doug Dickey to be AD after he left us for Florida.

Actually according to his bio this is the third time they've worked together. They were on the same staff at Ohio St and Iowa State as well.

If they mesh that well with Herman then by all means open up the check book. Clearly we don’t need to pick and choose who we hire as assistants. To many want to cut others nuts off

Pope and BT are the only two that hurt.

Hypothetically, I think Herman and Freeze and Gus could wait a year to find a better job than Tennessee. This place is a nightmare. Who would even come here at this point? Maybe Chadwell because he's a Tennessee guy

Yeah? And he’s worked with others. He brought him in to fix the defense and he got fired.

He hasn’t or something would have broke by now. He’s not going to get any transfers until a decision is made. If they wanted to come here they could be here already.

If the right hire is made they could come in waves but who knows

Mullen currently at 2nd best odds to be next Jets coach. Daboll is also betting favorite for the Chargers.

Yurcich would definitely take over the QB coach title also...and has a stellar resume on developing them.

Also, Sark is a little different from other Saban assistants in that he's only been with him for 2 years. He was groomed early in his career by Pete Carroll, then was out on his own as an HC for a while, then was rehabbed by Saban.

I think this contrasts pretty strongly with someone like Pruitt or Kirby, who were reared/groomed by Saban for most of their careers before going out on their own. Guys who have spent a lot of time under Saban in the formative years of their careers, especially defensive assistants, I think end up being guys who largely don't/can't think for themselves are are ill-suited to being HCs. Pruitt is the epitome of this.
