Recruiting Forum Football Talk III

I'm torn. Listening to the VQ podcast has me feeling a certain way. Is it really a good idea to fire Pruitt this year?

Imagine firing Pruitt and then Henry, Crouch, Bailey, Wright, Key, Beckwith, Hyatt, and others transfer and Brooks asks out of his LOI. Talk about setting back the program. This roster is just an average roster right now, you're killing the new coach if that happens. The new coach then starts with a significant deficit in roster numbers, a serious lack of talent, and very little time to add transfers, especially any good ones, who can help. Such a UT thing for this to be happening when that transfer rule is about to take affect. Just like waiting until 2017 to fire butch the first year of the early signing period.

Keep him another year and you might still lose all those guys after next year plus you miss on the 22 class. We may lose some of those guys, and that sucks, but so does keeping a lame duck coach to try and keep recruits or players.

What do people think of Raheem Morris? Not that he would even be an option here as he likely is an NFL lifer. Just think he did some good things as interim with Falcons and I liked him from his previous time with Bucs and felt he was just too young at time. I felt his move to Offense and WR coach and success there to go along with his defensive background helped him grow and I think it shows in how he handled that Falcons group to end year. He now has been under several good offensive and defensive minds. I think he would be outstanding in college game. Just my opinion

Just not enough college experience for me but I like him as a coach

Fulmer: Jerm is doing a good job and I believe he will win games.

AP: It's the fans fault for lack of success

Jerm: Fire me or GTF out of my way

Fans: In 2018 we lost 50-17 to Mizzou, 38-13 to Vandy. 2019 Lost to Ga freakin St and BYU. Year 3 you go 3-7. You are 0-9 against the three teams you mentioned in your opening press conference on how coaches at UT should be judged. Overall we are not even competitive in games.

Guys he has to be fired and we need to make a splash hire immediately to stop this trainwreck.

And you can't keep him at this point either. If you do, every party is pissed for the next 10 months until we fire him then.

They have handled this ineptly, which isn't surprising. They've done just enough to handicap themselves regardless.
Basically they re gonna fire Pruitt and end up with a month long search that includes several "no's" and they re doing this again in 3 to 4.

My line of work occasionally brings me across people who know things but I don't ever ask because I don't want to be that guy. I did ask this time though lol. Pruitt absolutely had Pugh lined up. He has not been allowed to date to officially get something done. Pugh decided not to wait and go with Baylor.

As I said last night, we are cutting his legs out from under him. This long game of hard ball however needs to be over. UT needs to pick as side and go with it. Back him or fire him. This middle ground is hurting the program worse than the other two ever could.
this is another thing i was thinking about....

so, we're waitng on the results of this investigation to guide our decision here...let's say the investigation doesn't turn up enough to do anything and we decide to keep him....how motivated exactly do you think pruitt is at that point? we're supposedly actively looking for reasons to fire him with cause, and since we can't, congratulations, you get to keep your job? psht.

i'd tank next year, you'd have to fire me, and i'm getting my $10M...or whatever it is, and all i'm losing is a year.

this whole thing is just stupid. the people over there, the whole lot of them--admin, president, chancellor, donors involved in the decision making process...all of them.....are morons, or at the very least very indecisive....and you've definitely cut the knees out from under your AD if he's really advocating for pruitt at this point...cause clearly there's enough folks that matter that disagree.....

ish or get off the pot, because how this is being handled is ludicrous. keep him...fine, you can explain that away with covid, quarantines yada, yada, yada and move on to a 'normal' year and see what happens.

fire him, fine...2 losing seasons in 3 years...no one blinks an eye and you cut bait and move on....

either way at least you've declared a direction and can move on.

doing nothing? while you wait on an investigation to conclude? MAKES NO SENSE WHATSOEVER. and i don't see any resolution to this that we come out on top....

Its Marrone isn't it?

We had a different breed of donor then too. The ones we have now have been jockeying for position around the power vacuum he left. What they’ve managaed to accumulate is to serve themselves and every damn one of them is afraid of investing that power back into a functional AD where it belongs.
How exactly was Doug Dickey able to keep all the boosters and admin people on the same page? I've heard that for years, but how exactly did he do it?

Was it because of the pre-existing reputation he had as a coach at Tennessee and Florida? If so, why doesn't Fulmer have the same effect? Fulmer was an even more successful coach than Dickey was, and has been a Tennessee lifer which Dickey was not.

I've never thought this through and not sure I want to. But what if a white guy wanted to dress up as Michael Jordan for Halloween? What if a black man wanted to dress as Larry Bird and painted his face white? Is that the same?
I'm curious. Is it just assumed you are mocking if you paint your face, and not that you are dressing up like someone you wish you were?

Our fans are nothing different than auburn, FL, texas etc. they are just as toxic and great at the same time. Their admins just choose to find ways to fire poor coaches. Ours find ways to extend them.
i didn't say they were different. i did say that situationally, we're not helping. and Auburn didn't exactly win their PR battle to get the coach they wanted...clearly they did not have a plan and i'd say some of the coaches that turned them down was a direct result of the perception that was out there. and it certainly played a role in Auburn not hiring choice #1 in Kevin Steele.

and as for FLorida, apparently Mullen is throwing his name out there for the NFL....seems he's looking to get out when the gettin' is good too. UF fans aren't exactly singing Mullen's praises right now either.
