Exactly! I just want a competitive team that I feel like can beat anyone and play with anyone. Even if we finish 8-4 or 9-3 for a few years, that’s ok as long as we look like a well coached team and we aren’t getting blown out every week.

That’s why I think Gus is a good choice. Let him do his thing on his side and hire a guy who can coach up the defense. Is he going to get you to championships probably not but he gives Tennessee credibility and foundation again. He could be deadly with Salter imo.

I know it won’t happen tho. Hes got no reason to jump back into coaching

I agree with AP. Fan base is out of control on social media and thinks they have too much power because of the Schiano movement. Mainly led by media people that are really just diehard fans that think they have a voice now and don’t think professionally. Those kids still love Pruitt. He bought a lot of goodwill with them with how he handled the social justice issues. So if they feel that something underhanded is done to screw Pruitt it can leave a bad taste in kids mouth. You have to make it about on field stuff and not try to ruin a guys career. It has to be professional. You also need to do what TX did if you make a move. You have to have someone lined up. If you have another mess of a search then you will lose a ton to portal. Henry T will def be gone if Pruitt is. The others you stand a chance to keep if you do it the right way. Do it wrong and don’t complain when it’s a disaster

Lets play a game, VN, called "Would You Hire Him?" Since Freeze obviously isn't coming here when we fire Pruitt, we still need someone with an offensive mind IMO so allow me to introduce our contestant, Candidate A. Lets look at Candidate A's resume and see if you'd like it if we hired him.

From 2017 to 2020 his passing yards per game has gone - 398, 411, 465, and 475. A full 77 yards more per game in 4 years.
From 2017 to 2020 his average points per game has gone - 29.5, 31.1, 35.2, 42.5. A full 13 points more per game in 4 years.
Over those 4 seasons his team averages 25.77 PPG as compared to our dismal 22.5 PPG. For reference, in 2020, Candidate A averaged 42.5 PPG & we averaged 21.5 PPG. Awful.
Over the last 4 seasons his defense has averaged 27.6 PPG which is in line with our average of 27.2 PPG. Not mind-blowing, but also won't break our backs if we are scoring more than 21.5 PPG.
Recruiting wise he has consistently recruited in the Top 10 & even top 3 in 2018 & 2019.
As a HC his defense has never had a negative turnover margin. CJP? A negative turnover margin ever year of his tenure.
In his time as HC he has had 4 successful draft picks in the first round of the NFL draft & several others in the mid to late rounds. He is developing & churning out top tier NFL talent.

You might've guessed by now but Candidate A is none other than Coach Phillip Fulmer. Just kidding, its recently fired Texas coach Tom Herman. Think those numbers are impressive? I agree.

Right now they cant get everybody to agree they need to fire Pruitt for his on the field performance. I doubt they ve all got together and identified the guy they are going to hire and agreed on that either.

And you can't keep him at this point either. If you do, every party is pissed for the next 10 months until we fire him then.

They have handled this ineptly, which isn't surprising. They've done just enough to handicap themselves regardless.

Why doesn't he mention that if a coach wins 8 games in a row against teams Tennessee should beat, the coach will get a raise and an extension? I would say the lack of leadership within the Tennessee administration is a far more damning issue than the fanbase.

Is someone telling AP and VQ to push this narrative to try and get the fans to relax? I don't see that working and Tennessee needs to make a statement one way or the other.

If Nick Saban just had the season we did he would have to go into the witness protection program, but apparently it's just Tennessee fans that are the root of all problems Tennessee.

I would pick the school who’s plans sound best to utilize me in whatever scheme fits me best. We’re not getting hit with the death penalty even if the investigation is terrible. At worst a couple schollys gone and a 1 year bowl ban. We bring in too much revenue for the NCAA.

My line of work occasionally brings me across people who know things but I don't ever ask because I don't want to be that guy. I did ask this time though lol. Pruitt absolutely had Pugh lined up. He has not been allowed to date to officially get something done. Pugh decided not to wait and go with Baylor.

As I said last night, we are cutting his legs out from under him. This long game of hard ball however needs to be over. UT needs to pick as side and go with it. Back him or fire him. This middle ground is hurting the program worse than the other two ever could.

I think the players would have been fine if he had been fired for performance but feel their coach is being attacked by some in the university. That's different.
