Oh cool so now we might actually move on from Pruitt, right as everyone else is looking to make hires! Yep. We’re going to **** this up again. Be lucky as hell to have a Napier or Chadwell fall in our laps now.
Those guys would laugh at us right now.

I want to know who turned us in/ how did all this bubble to the top? Did another program squeal?

Nope, one of our own. Some people in admin want him gone - from Trey's camp who broke it.

That wasn’t the question.
The question was who started it by turning it in to tenn compliance

and besides when multiple posters here had already told us what was going on Treys camp can’t be where the search got a mole leaker should start

I doubt it. We've had football coaches struggle after 2 years here (Dooley and Butch) and we gave them a 3rd year.

Also, "5-year rebuild" (I don't think it should take 5 years, but for the sake of argument let's go with that) doesn't necessarily mean you have to give the coach exactly 5 years. What if after 3 years it is obvious that no progress has been made - in fact, perhaps the team is moving backwards in some areas? In order for the rebuild to be complete in 5 years, you have to be somewhere down the path to completion at the 2, 3, 4 year mark, no?
What normally happens is if a new UT coach has one year below lofty expectations, UT fans turn on him and makes it much harder for him to recruit .. thus creating a downturn that is very hard to get out of. Whether that down year is year 2 or year 3 or year 4 .. it doesn't matter at UT. If you can find a coach willing to come to UT that doesn't have a down year in his first 4 or 5 years.. maybe he could survive. I don't think he exists.

Both have expressed interest through back channels. Chadwell is a Tennessee guy to his core. Up until now the Tennessee brass has elected to stick with Jeremy over those two. If this investigation really turns south, my money is on one of those two being your next head football coach. Wouldn’t be shocked if it was Malzahn though either.

I wonder if Mullen shopping NFL jobs speeds anything up. There are no major college openings right now. Could have our pick of anyone who wants to coach at a big name school

I imagine the feeling we’re having right now is similar in nature (not trying to make light of the seriousness) to waiting on them to flip the switch on the electric chair. You don’t know when it’s coming (or do they tell the inmate?) but you know it’s gonna be bad.

When has this happened?

Fulmer was an elite recruiter until the mid 2000s, even when his teams were, as you said, not meeting lofty expectations. His recruiting fell off a cliff after he had a couple below .500 seasons - "below lofty expectations" is putting those seasons very mildly. And he had those seasons, especially the truly awful 2005 season, with elite talent.

Kiffin left after one year. Dooley left after 3 terrible years. Butch's recruiting fell off a cliff during his disastrous 2017 season when he went 0-8 in conference play.

Where does this notion that we "run off coaches after one bad season" or that we run off coaches too early come from? Tennessee's problem is with who we hire on the front end, not when we fire people.

Mullen would be crazy to leave Florida. He must have his reasons though.

This. If they were going to fire him, they should have done it at the end of the season.

I think the ncaa is more likely to turn a blind eye if Pruitt is fired for this than if he’s been fired for performance. Might end up being better for us in the long run than firing him a month ago
