Of course someone will take the money. I think his point was that we will be overpaying for coaches that are a reach.
and, us arguing Pruitt needs relieved is moot until the investigation is 'cluded.

ridiculous as is, it isnt changing.

Win-loss pales to lopsidedness, and attrition iyam. But, last **** show & optics are making this call.

if his point is we are paying just to kick the can down the road. it isnt smart financial decision.

I’m sure you’re right and that’s the problem!

If Freeze, Napier, Chadwell or anyone else decent has another good year and is available next year, we will lose out on them to a team in a better situation to win now. Fla St, Michigan, LSU or some other surprise school coaching position is going to open up next year and that opportunity will be better than UT because they didn’t let their programs be run under the ground before they made a change. Then UT will struggle once again to find a coach and end up with a third tier dud like Dooley, Butch, or Pruitt.

I bought into the hype and ignored how awful we were at the beginning of last year because of our easy end of year schedule. But this year looked exactly like the beginning of last year. So after three seasons under Pruitt we have been terrible most of the time. Even games we won we usually looked terrible most of the game yet somehow won.

This is Tennessee’s direction under him and more time isn’t going to change that. By the time we fire him we will replace him with... someone just like him.

I am an Alumnus of UT and will always bleed Orange. But all hope is gone. All of it. I’m tapped out. Pruitt doesn’t have IT. And all indications are that our administration doesn’t either.

So let’s give Pruitt more time to hire terrible assistants and have a terrible 2022 recruiting class and lose lots of games next year THEN fire him and we can all meet back here to talk about the rumor that Vegas has fired Gruden and we are going to finally hire him.
GBO
Yup.

I do think it can be better. Fixing our abysmal offense, addressing the culture, developing the QBs, holding position coaches and coordinators accountable and getting Pruitt to be more of a HC should get us out of the gutter. But longer-term, we need a better solution.

... other than that... 😂

How do you fix a horrid offense while keeping the same OC who runs the same system tho? Are we just hoping that a new QB magically helps us start scoring 30+ ppg and our stale offensive philosophy will work this year if we try really hard?

Doesn’t seem like a recipe for success.
You don’t. You can go from awful to mediocre at best. Losing trey is going to be as big of a loss as Darrell Taylor if not bigger. Palmer will be as well. No WR on our roster has shown (so far) they can play the X.

I think the primary focus is on reshaping the offense. Pruitt needs to figure out an offensive identity and philosophy before he can hire the right assistants. He can replace Brumbaugh and add another defensive guy. He needs to be more of a HC and not a defensive coach, so adding another guy on that side would (theoretically) help. They've been running through scenarios-- but the top choices might not be available or willing to come.
I'm worried more about the defense. This defense is approaching Sunseri bad. This despite him being a "defensive savant". That's been my biggest concern. The defense has been embarrassingly bad.

Hank, did you recently just got back to the Hank Hill avi, or am I losing it?

How many times are we going to go through this exact same scenario?

Firing the wrong HC seems like the most logical thing to do but our administration is too busy with their thumbs up their a$$.

It’s pointless to keep Pruitt another year.
Exactly! I know its been said more times than I can count. But why bring in more assistants only to buy them all out after another underwhelming fall in 2021.
There is a small chance he turns this around. But a HUGE chance he won't. But I'm not a booster with millions to donate. So what do I know.

It's bad all around. We're playing beneath our talent. It can be better. Longer-term, we'll need a different fix.

I’ll reiterate that I still believe in Pruitt. Coach Fulmer, Boyd and Plowman do as well. The three have examined the situation thoroughly, and it appears as if they feel bringing Pruitt back is the best option. It’s not as easy as many people think to just go out here and hire some big time coach. The notion that Tennessee won’t spend money and they don’t care about winning is pure nonsense. This AD wouldn’t provide coach Pruitt with every tool necessary to win like they have over the last 3 years if they weren’t concerned with winning.
Look guy, maybe you can’t see it, but a big majority of people that follow UT football can. Pruitts not getting it done at this school. There has been nothing but stupid decisions on his part the whole time he’s been at UT. The guys not a head coach. Pruitt could’ve went 0-10 this year and Fulmer would just say it’s part of the process. The guy does not deserve to be AD. Simple as that.

That is depressing. And I take it that there are folks at the top that think the situation will actually improve by keeping Fulmer and Pruitt around for another round or two?
if pruitt hadnt had an 8-5 year, then bungled things...still it may be a different story. couple that with an investigation.

people keep saying these investigations are routine. one thing on latest podcast that NO one has mentioned that was eyebrow raising to me was when Hubbs talked about the investigation open endedly.

They said they've reached out to the Chancellor about it, no comment. I dont want to prognosticate but, if its so routine. Why wait until last game to release it? Graham being held off the road all year. It just has feeling of something's up. Hope i'm wrong.

A lot of boosters are tired of bankrolling this mess. If you think fans are sick of it, imagine how people being asked to donate and donate and donate to fund futility feel. It's never-ending.
I’m 10000% agree with this. Herein lies the problem tho. Either way we’re screwed. Boosters are tired of spending money and the product on the field will continue to be trash and we can “hope” they figure it out. (Pruitt) And if he doesn’t why would they spend more money for the next hire.

Do you think Pruitt is willing to change our offense to a more modern identity?

It’s nice to say and hope for but it’s not going to happen. Pruitt isn’t going to change who he is all of a sudden in year 4 at UT. He is who he is and that’s that. Move on now or accept that we’ll be bad until he’s gone. That’s just reality.

Yes and no. Year 1 under Helton we were an I form power run hand the ball off 30 times a game.
Year 2 more zone run with some spread mixed in.
Year 3 we went more spread with a gap run scheme and a vertical passing scheme.
Mullen you know is going to kill you with pick routes and crosses. You know Kirby is stuck in the 80's and just wants to break you. Bama is just gonna do what they want. UK is going to try and pound you into submission. Vandy sucks. Scar was a spread passing team but I would call them multiple because they would go under center. Ole Miss is a true spread. Mizzou is a multiple passing attack. But what is TN sometimes we want to throw but sometimes we want to run, sometimes we take shots and others we go into a shell. Sometimes we run timing routes, sometimes we run outside zone. What is our team best at, the coaches need to figure that out and build an offense around that.

The O hasn’t looked a whole lot different since Pruitt has been there. Those reasons you gave explain why Florida and Ole Miss are doing so great offensively. KY fired their OC and overhauled its offensive staff because, although the were along the best at ground and pound, it was still just ground and pound. Smart can also stick with that because I believe that’s part of the reason he’ll never have that all 5 star roster living up to its potential. Anyone that is not spreading them out and hitting them with those picks, slants, crossing routes, and run routes, hasn’t figured out what it takes to score in today’s game.

I'm sure it can be better. With a different coach. Someone who can fix the short and long term in one fell swoop. Our defense has mostly non-freshman playing. We can't consistently line up and we blow coverages routinely. I think the answer is known
