Jamey Chadwell (Coastal Carolina)

That “league “ has 4 teams that have been ranked in the top 25 over the last 2 years, and a 5th team that beat UT at Neyland. And the team that he just did it against beat two ACC teams this year and almost beat a 3rd. You do understand that he would also have better recruiting in this league?? I’m not saying he would win big here. Nobody can predict that, but you’re reasoning for why he wouldn’t doesn’t really hold water.
It reminds me too much of the Jones hire tbh. I’d love to get him and us light it up, just don’t see it translating that well and fast enough for the SEC. We are a very impatient fan base. We’re not gonna wait on his O to develop for four years, at that point we might as well see if Pruitt and Chayney can do the same thing. If he came in and recruited at an elite level and the players loved him, Id love to be wrong.

Please, let's not resort to name calling and personal attacks, gentlemen.......We are all of us Vols

This is where the fan base is at. Anyone shooting down a perspective UT coach is a CJP and CFP defender. They’ve gotta be rooted out. Why? Cause f em thats why.

We need someone who’s gonna talk sh!t to bama, Florida and GA and stomp their ass so we can get back to running our mouths at them again. Not each other.

I'm all in on taking down the bammer vermin......I don't know; I guess I hate seeing the fanbase turning their vitriol on one another instead of the administrators who are responsible for our current crisis. Vol fans have no real power, just opinions.......Phil and JP have to go; on that we can agree

They all have to go. The people deserve far better.

But the part that dealt strictly with the football program still cost them 18 wins and a championship. It's not like they punished the football program for infractions perpetrated by the baseball team.

Two 10 win seasons in his career and a pretty substantial hit from the NCAA on a team he coached under his tenure.

I think we can do better.

Well, while he was there Charleston Southern beat App State, took 5 time defending champ North Dakota State to overtime, and won back to back conference championships. From an admittedly small sample size, it looks like the dude can coach.

As for the infractions ... from NCAA.org -
Charleston Southern failed to monitor its athletics program when it improperly certified 55 student-athletes in 12 sports over a six-year period, according to a Division I Committee on Infractions panel. The university also did not monitor policies designed to ensure the correct administration of book scholarships.

But yeah, it was all Chadwell.
He and he alone cheated like crazy ... paid players, bought there mommas a house, borrowed Freeze's cell phone, you name it.

Personally, I'd take him today over what we currently have. Would he be my first choice, or even in my top 5? No. But he isn't as dirty as a lot of people wanna think.

Here is the link:

I imagine there would be more questions and doubt than there would be respect. I’m talking about someone that demands respect instantly, no questions asked from boosters, players, or fans.

If you have to ask the question then the answer is probably no.

I would be interested to hear who you think is that guy ... a coach like you describe who would actually take the job.
We're talking about coaches that might would take the job (Freeze, Napier, Chadwell) ... who you got?
Name Mr Respect that would take the job.

I'm not arguing with you ... I agree with you ... so give us a name, or even better, some names.

Yeah, this board is almost not fun anymore because of the way people are talking to each other ... hateful, smart alek (ever how you spell that), condescending comments ... I made a thread about it a week or so ago and it got taken down in about 30 seconds, but it's the truth. It's not fun being a Vol fan right now, and even this awesome board (best fan board on the net) is hard to enjoy because people are being jerks to each other.

Just my 2 cents ... and we all know what that's worth.

I was merely stating what I thought was missing with the previous hires (RESPECT).
I think I have been pretty clear throughout these discussions but if I haven’t here it goes.
My opinion only so beware.

There is no coach available to The University of Tennessee that would command respect from everyone involved right now.

If I had to choose a coach that would bring hope but not universal respect between Freeze, Napier, Chadwell?
I would go with Napier simply because he has no baggage.

Kind of like having to choose whether to fold or call an all in bet with only a gut shot straight draw. I would fold and see what cards I am dealt next hand which in this analogy folding equals keeping Pruitt.

Oh, well I misunderstood you altogether.
You were legitimately asking for suggestions.
That's on me.
No harm no foul ...

But I'd rather take a chance on any of those three than suffer thru the inevitable failure that's coming (shoot, that we've already witnessed), but that's just me.

Okay, carry on.

For the folks saying Chadwell couldn't coach at the SEC due to it being at a higher level how about the fact he had his entire team playing at a higher level. He has 10 years of head coach experience and has improved every team he's coached. The man can obviously motivate his players and it most definitely shows on the field. I watched two or three games of his this year and was thoroughly impressed at how hard his team played.......for the full 60 minutes. I promise you his team this year would have stomped UT in a mudhole. His team plays the same game as they play in the SEC, it has that funny shaped ball that takes odd bounces, plays on a 100 yard field with the same rules. If he can motivate his players at one team why could he not be able to do the same at another? I'd say give the man a shot, we sure couldn't do any worse than what we have now.

People forget that Saban and Meyer's got their coaching start at smaller schools. Someone's going to take a gamble on him. Every coaching hire is a gamble. There is no such thing as a sure thing. Take a look at Michigan.

Anyway, fortune favors the bold and we are not going to see the promise land, unless we start making the moves that have to be made and taking chances on well calculated risks.

From wiki, with all its faults:
(Edit to add: he didn’t get a show cause. They blamed everything on the absence of a compliance staff. So he didn’t realize that there wasn’t a compliance staff, and he didn’t know that any of this stuff was going on? Gimme a break.)
In 2018, the NCAA released a detailed report concerning numerous NCAA violations that occurred during Chadwell's tenure as the CSU head football coach. The violations ranged from using multiple ineligible players to players using scholarship funds to purchase electronics and jewelry from the campus book store. Ultimately, the NCAA sanctions vacated 18 wins from the 2014 and 2015 seasons and the 2015 Big South Championship. Also vacated were three wins over crosstown rival The Citadel, games during which CSU used ineligible players.

Like i said before, there isnt a squeaky clean HC In football out there. They will not find a “Rick Barnes of Football available”. If they do happen to find one... he wont be leaving where he is to come here.

Is there any dirt on Herman? Napier? Campbell?

Ok, but most programs under a particular coach don’t have to vacate 18 wins over two seasons. (How many seasons would it take for UT to have 18 wins to vacate?) I get that every program cheats on some level, and that the NCAA seems to prefer hammering lower-visibility programs, but that is one HELL of a punishment.

I don't like him - too young, and he's got shifty eyes. Chancellor Plowman's remarks today, though no one was specifically mentioned, did not sound favorable for him.

I just don't believe who ever is hired can have ANY NCAA baggage. I think Boyd and Plowman made that pretty clear if for nothing else the PR standpoint. I would not be surprised if they didn't look to the Pro ranks and get someone with some College experience but Head Coach in the NFL. Marrone, O'Brian, Fisher or someone we would have never thought of. Remember one of the resources that they will be looking to are VFL ex-NFL players and we have a lot of them to get info from.
