Pruitt won't even sniff a good class next year. Once we start playing games, those 22 players will be gone looking at other teams. Pruitt will not land many of them. It will be an absolute waste. Then they will fire him way too late and the next coach won't have the time to be salvage the class. We are fans of this program? Haha. Im not sure how much longer I will be.

2014: 6-6 SC dropped 38 on them; 6-6 UT with banged up Worley dropped 32; 6-6 Arky dropped 32 on them; Treon Harris and will Muschamp scored 38 😂 KY scored 31; GT scored 30. They did have impressive wins against Clemson before they were Clemson and Mehlzahn.

2015: much improved but any team with a pulse scored on them.

Pruitt isn’t that good of a DC
There is literally nobody who covers college football for a living, no analyst, no coach, who would agree with that statement. When we hired him as HC he was universally praised as being perhaps the top DC in America. Was in the same discussions as Aranda. He was top 1-3. You don't have success at 3 different stops if you're not a good DC. See Bob Shoop. He looked good under Franklin, but sucked here and at MSU and is no longer a DC.

Then show a better product on the field. It's been 15 years. At what point should the fan base expect average coaching?

We are asking not for great coaching, just average. Since 2005 there are only a few times we have had seasons that have been average by Tennessee standards.

Don't blame it on us when the coaching is ass

Disagree. Pruitt's first full class are sophomores. We have barely seen what the freshmen can do. To say that those few are the only draft able players is very foolish. 2020 class was loaded with a lot of good players. We'll see if they're developed. But that's a very shortsighted comment.
And LOL at first full class. Sounds like Butch excuses.

6 would be about the best Pruitt could do next fall with that schedule. More likely 4 or 5 wins. Which means we’ll be back here next November in a coaching search and watching all those top instate ‘22 kids go elsewhere as we scramble to find a bargain bin replacement. So stupid. But that’s what UT does. Sigh...

I disagree, if they bought his plan again he’ll be here at least until 24 unless it gets really bad. Then again what do they consider really bad?

That’s why anyone who says Campbell isn’t a good option for coach is drunk. And I mean when we actually have an opening or when we are discussing the fantasy land where Pruitt is fired.

Dude has had success with below average recruiting. Now, is he a good recruiter? Maybe not. But the guy can coach. He’ll never win truly big unless he has elite players but he’s winning at a below average program with below average players.
Campbell also is the coach at Iowa St, who is never going to be able to recruit top talent. People said that Mullen was a bad recruiter...yeah, because he was at Miss St. Look at the types of players he's getting at Florida.

Campbell would be a great hire here, but he'd never come here and our admin would never consider him anyway.

We're going to get curbstomped by any team with a remotely competent offense next year. WE CANNOT RUSH THE PASSER OR DEFEND A PASS.

There is no help coming. DJ is transferring. Seriously, Ole Miss can probably put up 50 if they wanted. Our "DB guru" can't recruit any DBs that are worth a damn

Just a thought ... if CJP is kept, and Chaney is replaced ... how bout Chadwell for OC? It'd be a big pay raise (think he's around 400,000 right now at CCU), he's from the area, and maybe he'd bring his QB Grayson McCall with him.

Probably not a popular thing to state here, but it could be interesting.
CCU has been fun to watch this year.

Dudes who are current HC don’t take coordinator jobs. Why would they? Someone will hire them eventually if they keep winning as a HC. They literally have no reason to be coordinators.

Yep

Aight, so we ain't firing Pruitt. We can do one of two things: we can complain about it and have no affect on anything except negative recruiting, or we can try and theorize on how Pruitt might have some success next year.

I still believe that Pruitt is a good defensive coach. Dude didn't forget how to coach defense. He'll have an entire year (barring anymore covid nonsense) to get that straightened out. I believe he will. Morven Joseph will get his first spring as will other players on the defense. Aaron Willis will be here also and he should help with the middle of the defense in his first year (If Pruitt will play the newcomers). Key Lawrence played the majority of the A&M game, he'll be a starter next year adding much needed speed and talent to the defensive backfield. TM also played a ton this year and I think we'll see more of him as well. Tank was injured the majority of the year, he'll be healthy next year and will be a good player. We have some good young talent in that defensive backfield with TM, Slaughter, Key, Rucker, Burrell, and others who will have a lot of time to develop. If we can figure that middle of the field problem out, defense should be okay. As for pass rush, we have to hope they can get some development in these young players such as Baron, Joseph, and Brooks who will be here. We need Brooks to be legit. Crouch will probably also move back to OLB. Maybe he can take advantage of his first fully healthy year.

On offense, we'll have a better QB in 2021. Be that HB, Salter, or a transfer, the signal caller will be the best we've had since Dobbs. It's about time. But this coaching staff needs to let them play. Stop handcuffing them. HB was handcuffed at times this year, which is stupid considering how smart he is and accurate in delivering the football. But we need to make some changes to this staff. Weinke needs to go, no matter what. Is Chaney the problem? if so, replace him. If it isn't him but Pruitt's meddling, then Pruitt needs to let Chaney do his job and run this offense. I prefer replacing Chaney.

But there is also good talent on this offense. Hyatt is going to be a star if we don't waste him. I'm confident that Wideman and Calloway will be good here. If Velus Jones comes back, and he should, he can be really good next year. I think Princeton Fant can be a good pass catching TE with a real QB throwing him the ball. I also love what we have in Miles Campbell coming in. At RB, we know what we have in Gray, but now we're adding a bruiser in Brown, and a guy who may be the best back in this class in Evans coming in. RB is going to be really good. Hopefully we'll have an OL coach who can actually develop this OL because with Mays coming back, there is a lot of talent on this offensive line as well.

We have some pieces. Pruitt needs to fix this defense and let his coaches do their job. And we have to hope that Bailey/Salter/transfer can lift this program. We would have been no worse than 5-5 with decent QB play this year. So we'll see what happens next year.

That's all I got for optimism on this Wednesday. Tl/dr version: let's hope that Pruitt can do what he hasn't shown any ability to do thus far.

Genuinely Appreciate the effort here, but you lost me at the start.... I've been saying for a while now that the biggest red flag is the fact that our defense sucks and has regressed the past three seasons... And he hasn't recruited the right players in 3yrs for his defense, which should be his best ability. The one strong point of this team, and the only defending Pruitt aspect should be our defense in year 3, yet it's pathetic... This just shows he's good at defense when he has 5*'s and is running Saban's D scheme... He's not got a single part of the game to fall back on and defend, he's failed everywhere...

It’s the truth right now. He has hurt Palmers draft status. Trey was a top pick as a freshmen but he has regressed too. This was the worst coached team maybe in the history of our program and that is from many VFL’s. Development is beyond bad.
Palmer put some good tape out with some contested catches and toasting Patrick Surtain Jr.

I agree man. Completely agree.

He’s clean so I could see him getting consideration but I agree he would never come.

But there were peeps saying they didn’t want him. In my opinion, that’s ridiculous.

I’ll say 7-5 right now

No JG on the roster makes this team better already, we have a few guys in this class that’ll be instant impact guys and depending on Bailey/Salter progression and the transfer QB the playbook will be opened up a lot more offensively, hopefully Covid isn’t there to ravage the OL and DL. Think we’ll make a good enough hire to get a lot more out of those guys. The big concerns are pass rush and covering the slant, which will probably lead us to struggle against teams that score a bunch of points. This is probably what we would’ve been this season with a regular schedule anyways. Still not to what should be the standard but good enough to stabalize things and won’t cause a mass exodus of recruits

If you seriously think this team (without the burden of Guarantano and Will Friend) doing worse than a 6-6 record when we have cupcakes on the schedule, then you’re either too emotionally ridden on hating the current HC or mentally challenged. Too much talent on both sides for that to happen regardless who the HC is

That being said, 6-6 should get you fired at Tennessee.
7-5 at UT in year four should get you fired.

Here's a question. What record in 2021 will it take for you guys to believe in Pruitt again?

8-4?

9-3?

For me, if he's not 8-4 or better he HAS to be fired. But who knows with Phil...
8 or 9 wins, and he needs to pull out a win over one of the big 3 for sure, UGA, UF or Bammer.

He does that, and Bailey has a really good sophomore season, the defense comes back to life and looks serviceable and he might could get it turned around.

He has to let Chaney have full say in the offense. The weapons are there for Bailey.

The key to it all is HB or Salter maybe. QB play has to turn in to something really special for it to work.
