Georgia is the outlier. They fired richt after winning 10 games. Kirby instantly had the best roster in the East. A&M wasn’t as serious as they are now with jimbo. He forced their admin to up support and spending. That paired with the fact that jimbo is a great coach... you get great results.

Florida is a mess. They won 4 games while their coach was making porn with sharks. They may be a little more talented than us over all but it’s not by much. They are just quicker at identifying failures and better at fixing them.
I dont disagree with what you have posted at all. On which planet is Fla poor record not just an anomaly? When was the last time the have been devoid of substantial talent and had more than 1 or 2 bad years in a row. None of those programs are even close to the shape we have been in. Do you disagree?

Aight, so we ain't firing Pruitt. We can do one of two things: we can complain about it and have no affect on anything except negative recruiting, or we can try and theorize on how Pruitt might have some success next year.

I still believe that Pruitt is a good defensive coach. Dude didn't forget how to coach defense. He'll have an entire year (barring anymore covid nonsense) to get that straightened out. I believe he will. Morven Joseph will get his first spring as will other players on the defense. Aaron Willis will be here also and he should help with the middle of the defense in his first year (If Pruitt will play the newcomers). Key Lawrence played the majority of the A&M game, he'll be a starter next year adding much needed speed and talent to the defensive backfield. TM also played a ton this year and I think we'll see more of him as well. Tank was injured the majority of the year, he'll be healthy next year and will be a good player. We have some good young talent in that defensive backfield with TM, Slaughter, Key, Rucker, Burrell, and others who will have a lot of time to develop. If we can figure that middle of the field problem out, defense should be okay. As for pass rush, we have to hope they can get some development in these young players such as Baron, Joseph, and Brooks who will be here. We need Brooks to be legit. Crouch will probably also move back to OLB. Maybe he can take advantage of his first fully healthy year.

On offense, we'll have a better QB in 2021. Be that HB, Salter, or a transfer, the signal caller will be the best we've had since Dobbs. It's about time. But this coaching staff needs to let them play. Stop handcuffing them. HB was handcuffed at times this year, which is stupid considering how smart he is and accurate in delivering the football. But we need to make some changes to this staff. Weinke needs to go, no matter what. Is Chaney the problem? if so, replace him. If it isn't him but Pruitt's meddling, then Pruitt needs to let Chaney do his job and run this offense. I prefer replacing Chaney.

But there is also good talent on this offense. Hyatt is going to be a star if we don't waste him. I'm confident that Wideman and Calloway will be good here. If Velus Jones comes back, and he should, he can be really good next year. I think Princeton Fant can be a good pass catching TE with a real QB throwing him the ball. I also love what we have in Miles Campbell coming in. At RB, we know what we have in Gray, but now we're adding a bruiser in Brown, and a guy who may be the best back in this class in Evans coming in. RB is going to be really good. Hopefully we'll have an OL coach who can actually develop this OL because with Mays coming back, there is a lot of talent on this offensive line as well.

We have some pieces. Pruitt needs to fix this defense and let his coaches do their job. And we have to hope that Bailey/Salter/transfer can lift this program. We would have been no worse than 5-5 with decent QB play this year. So we'll see what happens next year.

That's all I got for optimism on this Wednesday. Tl/dr version: let's hope that Pruitt can do what he hasn't shown any ability to do thus far.

3rd option Schiano it.

4th option tune the hell out

Get rid of Tee and Nieds for starters.
How would getting rid of those guys, or any assistant coach, repair the relationship between UT and Pruitt, who thinks the school has tried to get him fired for cause? If true, that's a huge problem that I don't think could be reconciled.

3 isn't going to work. As Hubbs has said, it isn't the fans who stopped that hire. It was government and boosters calling them out on twitter and behind the scenes. It was the emails from high level donors, not the fans protesting.

As for 4, it was said by Doug Matthews this morning, they know that fans are going to watch no matter what. Fans will show up, fans will watch on TV, they are going to make their money. Even if every fan on VN tunes out, they wouldn't even notice.

Lol you clearly don’t follow football closely outside of Tennessee if you don’t know how badly Mac left Florida. He won the East because of how bad it was at the time. Butch literally handed it to him 2 years in a row. The difference is Florida fired him when they should have instead of waiting a year too long

They’ve lost 11- 13 bodies already and we aren’t officially in the off-season. No body that can help is going to be jumping at the bit to commit to Tennessee. There’s a lot of talent in the 22 class that can help but Tennessee chose to keep the coach.
The majority were seniors that should have been gone anyways or walk ins..... Pruitt will have to do a really good job selling his vision to this next years recruiting class.... hopefully..... a good in state class makes it easier.

Because he dumped his buddy that he got a raise for getting the same results. To me Pruitt will do whatever it takes to pass the blame rather than take it. Look what he did to the DL coach

You brought up Mullen at MSU. Not me. I used your example.
And then you proceeded to compare MSU to Tennessee and asked if 5-7, 9-4 and 7-5 is good for Pruitt. Again for the 100th time. Rebuilds are not equal. A rebuild at vandy or MSU is not the same as a rebuild at Bama or Florida or Tennessee or Ohio state.

We have been calling Florida beatable (and rightfully so) the last 5 years until after we play them. Do you not remember all the talk about their suspensions/attrition and how Mullen can’t control them or recruit the last three years? Florida doesn’t spend the money or lockdown recruiting in their state to be a truly elite program like bama or lsu. So i do disagree with you. We’ve had the better roster at least in 3 of the last handful of meetings.

IMO, they did not try to fire Pruitt for cause. It looks like he has had the past week in quarantine to put together and communicate his plan for recruiting and for staff. This past week gave him a chance to contact coaches about possible changes. He made his case and leadership feels good about plan versus trying to make new HC hire at this time. Time will tell.

Yeah, I have no appetite for this. What you're describing is a 6 win roster at best. And that's you being optimistic!

I may check-in occasionally, but this mediocre program is not getting any more of my time. To the MLB and NBA forums I go.
