You can't just tear a guy's house apart though because one of his neighbors thinks he might be building bombs in his RV. I thought this was a "get the government out of my life" kind of crowd. One would think a report of someone with (I think I read somewhere) a history of mental problems building bombs would warrant some surveillance.

They did got with the FBI to look into his history. It basically amount to marijuana possession a few decades prior.
A talk of suicide years before is not enough to established probable cause even when paired with the ex's statement. He had talked about killing himself, not blowing up a building.
I don't think I have said they should have done anything resembling that. All I suggested is that it looks like some surveillance was warranted. See what he's buying, ext.
They reached out to the feds. It's not like they knocked on his door, didn't get an answer, and then just shrugged and never thought of it again.
I'm not talking about them getting a warrant. They don't need a warrant to do some surveillance and investigation.
Seems odd that the police would just drop a report of someone making bombs because the property owner refused a search.
Holy shot batman, do you have comprehension problems? They asked to search, he (his attorney) said no and yeah they basically did just shrug and say oh well.
there are literally 100 plus people with mental illness walking around the streets of Knoxville right NOW who have claimed they were going to shoot up somewhere or bomb a building. You going to have the resources to follow that up on a daily basis? One would think a report of someone with (I think I read somewhere) a history of mental problems building bombs would warrant some surveillance.
All you're doing is begging the question and refusing to accept an answer. They did everything they legally could have done. What else would you have liked them to do based upon an ex-girlfriend's accusation?
