With our schedule next year, 7 wins is very possible, and should be the floor for expectations. And of course, if we manage to get those 7 wins, then Fulmer will point to the improvement from season to season and we’ll have Pruitt another year, possibly with another extension. But 7-5 with a losing SEC record in year 4 is really not getting it done. The question is can they sell that upward trend to recruits for 2022?

We could go 6-6 next year and Pruitt will be back for 2022. If they don’t fire him for going 3-7 they aren’t firing him for going 6-6.

If he’s back, they need to say something soon. Not a vague statement on Vol Calls, not a passing mention in the bowl acceptance statement, but a full blown “Pruitt will be the head coach in 2021” press release.

I don’t want Pruitt back, at all. But if you’re going to keep him, don’t act like you’re ashamed of it, and quit handicapping the guy in hiring coaches and recruiting.

That's not how this works. You don't give your "vote of confidence" in one sentence at the end of a bowl press release - especially considering Fulmer probably never saw that quote let alone said it himself. Some staffer wrote that and they released it.

Virginia Tech's AD came out at a specifically scheduled press conference to let everyone know Fuente was returning. Texas Tech did the same for Matt Wells.

Also, the VQ crew and LWS are very well-sourced. If they say discussions are still ongoing, that means discussions are still ongoing. It doesn't mean we're going to fire Pruitt. But what it does mean is we don't know yet.

Until Phillip Fulmer is on camera somewhere saying Pruitt is coming back we don't know for sure.

I think you have to view fulmer as a coach and not as a AD. I think it’s clear that fulmer despises ADs making such statements. I think he knows how much backlash it will cause and won’t do it.
We will just see a new assistant hire and know he’s coming back

“ Just spoke to someone very close to Jimmy Sexton. Sexton told him a lot is going on behind the scenes. If Pruitt is replaced, they want the new coach announced very quickly as last search gave UT a black eye. Freeze has not been written off by UT and he would be in play.
