Recruiting Forum Football Talk III

Surprisingly quiet around here. Random question. I don't spend money on myself much at all but am either gonna be first ($500) or second ($200) in my FF league. Gimme a great purchase for each price point

Tennessee bball tickets or swag. Football is screwed and best ignored for a few more years.

Ironically that was the same thought about Cut when we had the chance to hire him after Kiffin bolted. Hammy told him he couldn't bring his staff over so the discussion ended up being moot, but there was a lot of talk here like "Eh, I dunno, he might only stick around a couple years then retire, he has a history of heart trouble, we'd have to plan for both him and someone to succeed him."

11 seasons later, he's still at Duke.

Tennessee had two "outs" very early in the post-Fulmer era. We could have hired Patterson instead of Kiffin, and we could have had Cut instead of Dooley. We failed epically both times, and it's like we've been trapped ever since.

Got a discussion question for all. Now I am not calling anyone out but there has been some who have said in our conversations about Napier and Chadwell that they are good coaches but not ready for the SEC. So here is my question, who is ever ready to coach in the SEC? If Auburn thinks a coach from Boise State is good enough to coach in the SEC why wouldn't Napier? What makes a Coach ready? What is the standard or what does he have to accomplish to be SEC ready? Take Napier, he accomplished at LA what has never been done. Again, just a conversation topic here cause I know how things have been heated up in here LOL Now give me some good stuff.

To a degree sure, but imo the only reason they did that was because Phil knew he had a HC that was in over his head. Mullen back in the last coaching search is the best example I can give. Reports were TN was thinking about giving a similar offer to what UF was willing to offer. TN has to understand 2 things 1) UF is where he wins to be, so just matching their offer isn't good enough. 2) TN doesn't have all the advantages that other schools have and because of that you may need to offer a bit more. So instead of going on a wild goose chase, if Currie offered 7.5-8 Mullen would've been in Knoxville for at least a year.
I feel Mullen would be a good coach to stabilize the program but I don’t feel he is a championship coach..... he struggles at recruiting even with a much more fertile recruiting base than here at Tennessee...... if Tennessee is wants to get in a bidding war for a coach then he needs to be better than Mullen....When Pruitt was hired..... I felt he had a much higher ceiling than Mullen but he also had a much lower floor..... unfortunately for us..... he looks like he will be hitting the floor instead of the ceiling.

Sounds like F U money to me. I’d say buy out Pruitt and Fulmer, name yourself AD and hire Freeze!

Just Freeze...it’s just that easy

The million dollar question remains where does Randy Boyd and Plowman stand.

Peyton won't be publicly involved. Privately, I think he would be involved.

-Hubbs

But he’s 100% back, right?
Nothing is settled, yet....
Hubbs seems to be saying, Fulmer might want Pruitt, Boyd not so much. This is not the Hubbs endorsement Pruitt fans would like to hear.

I agree with you on Mullen and that's why I wanted him. We are in a spot where we need stability and consistent 8-9 wins before taking that next step. Its why im on board with the idea of Gus. As far as Pruitt goes I hated the hire and never thought he would succeed. 1)Stories about his attitude at UGA with Right and the fact that he only stayed one year at FSU. Saban being the only one who could calm him down and control his ego. 2) Everywhere he's been he's had the more talented roster, I questioned if he could adjust his scheme when he doesn't have 5* stacked on 5*. 3) Muschamp, Strong etc..... the game is moving offensive, and the last few years we have seen former DC after former DC fail because they couldn't figure out how to scheme an effective offense. Pruitt is in the same boat and has given no reason to think he can figure one out.

It's silly imo. Football is football.

Meyer came from Utah. Saban entered the league from Mich St. Spurrier came from the ACC (Duke lol).

If anything, I'd rather have someone outside of this incestuous ole boy's club. They all know each other too well and become complacent. Give me an outside innovator.

Someone (probably multiple) above Fulmer obviously has a strong distaste for Pruitt otherwise this wouldn’t drag out and we would’ve already heard strong support for him coming back next year. Right now it only sounds like two guys want Pruitt back, Pruitt and Fulmer (and I’m not sure Pruitt wants to come back all that much).
