Per 247, and this is rough counting on the fly, we’ve signed 14 of the Top 60 players in-state over the last three cycles. Only 2 in the top 20 this year.

There’s a serious problem with in-state recruiting right now and it will only get worse as the results turn further against us.

This goose is cooked. If we had a 8+ win season coming up, you could see recruiting turn, I guess. But with so many guys making decisions early, we’d still be behind.

but yet, "how do we know what 17-18 year old kids are thinking"

WE. ALL. KNOW. WHAT. THEY. ARE. THINKING.

WE SUCKKKKKKKKK.

Duke ladies (Kara) just cancelled season. I am worried that basketball is going to head the way it went last year. Need to be walked off the ledge- this has to be one of the best BB teams men Vols ever had.
It should be fine unless people over react like the duke women’s team did

Hey @StoVol thanks for the offer to get some grub yesterday. That was a definite Volbro moment... 👊🏼 After a brutal morning, I ended up ordering takeout from Calhouns (could’ve been worse) and watching the first 3 Die Hard movies... (I’d honestly never seen them)... All in all, it was better than I thought... but I’ll say this: I wouldn’t wish divorce on anyone. Well, mostly anyone. My thought was if I could get through the emotions of the 24th and 25th of December and I knew I’d be okay. I accomplished that goal and feel good. I appreciate the well wishes and prayers. So many people have it a lot worse and lost loved ones for good this year. I’m a blessed man.

Oh, and FYI, my Christmas present was peace. No bit*hing woman to derail the day with her incessant nagging and complaining. Sorry, too far? 🤦🏻‍♂️
Been there before myself bro I speak peace & when the time is right a woman that God will provide to be your help meet. God bless you hang in there

No, but I do know how they react to a 4th yr coach with no sign of improvement.

You're dumb as hell if you cant see that.

$300 bet, I know you won't, because you just talk talk talk

You’re dumb as hell if you think I want to bet on that.

I don’t think we’ll get the majority of the guys no matter who the coach is. I’ve been a fan long enough that I realize we’re ran like a 2nd rate program. And I’ve come to hope for the best but at this point I expect 2nd rate results.

What I’m saying is put the peace pipe down for 2 seconds and stop acting like you know what 18 year olds are thinking about.

This is a common sense thing to say.

And yes, I do talk. Just like everyone else on a message board.

Pruitt's scuse wasnt enamored with this crop. Fine, evalutations are wrong. Except Clemson, Bama, and OSU disagree.

'22 will be worse. Kids who are already leaning Bama in State. Good players.

Who gives a s*** what they are thinking? Look at where they are signing. Or better yet, not signing. It’s a problem. Tennessee is not a 2nd rate program. It’s a great program being crapped on by 2nd rate people.

Duke just prepares players for the WNBA than we do. They will be use to canceling games.

It’s a legitimate excuse, I guess. This staff was built to recruit in Alabama and Georgia, and the kinds of players they want are in those states. However, you have to win at a high level to pluck multiple top level players from those areas. And of course, we haven’t done that.

Hopefully our next HC decides to make Tennessee a priority. Build with our players, then hopefully win big enough to get players out of the surrounding areas. Not the inverse.

App Tee has has Nash west to Memphis, solo.

There is never an excuse to whiff in your home state. A staff isn’t responsible for 2 states. They are responsible to build a great roster.

So, uh, does anyone on here believe Pruitt has any chance whatsoever of turning this around next year?

Beyond the there is always a chance answer, the biggest questions will be interior lines on both sides of the ball.

He has really placed his chips on athleticism in his recruiting which means he is banking on practice and game experience to hone guys into players, which is risky when moving players to different positions. But we have exceptional speed with size, leaping ability, etc. on the offensive side of the ball. Beckwith, Whitehead, Wright, Hyatt, Callaway, Holiday, and Wideman come to mind at offensive skill positions. Does not even include Gray, Evans, and Hodge that have more standard but valued skill sets. Even after going over the roster I don't have a clue on how good of an offensive line we can develop. So many young guys I would like to think some of them have the makings and have just needed time like has been historically true. Reasonable spring and fall practice schedules and at least have more consistentcy than this year.

Defense is kind of the same. Do the lights come on for all the guys we have moved into different positions like Banks and Crouch. Lot of youth in secondary, so a lot of the same questions. How many guys can play the level of ball necessary with continued weight room, training table, and practice reps? Have a hard time believing this staff lost all evaluation skills upon arrival. The first two classes based on their own evaluations and relationships will be in their second and third years.

I don't know how to really answer your question with any conviction. There is certainly not a one word answer.

The real wildcard now is transfers and keepers. Can he fill the most glaring holes with a few experienced transfers? How much helpful experience will come back and take advantage of the free year. They can be good enough to help without being NFL ready. I SUSPECT you will see significant progress if he returns. Enough to warrant staying on when not protected by Covid revenue issues, I don't know. But I think at a minimum we would be in better shape to approach a homerun hire to replace him than we are right now. Hopefully we will have more money and the market won't be as weak as it is this year.

Hopefully it’s Freeze then.

Chadwell isn’t quite ready for an SEC job.

I like Chadwell. I like that he’s from East TN and grew up idolizing the Vols, but he is just the flavor of the day. He very well could have caught lightning in the bottle in an asterisk year. His sample size is too small. We really need to see more from him and if he can sustain.

Five years from now, I could look up this post and Chadwell could be the reigning coach of the year at a P5 school. UT just can’t afford to take that risk.

Wow

the Florida player reportedly had a heart issue caused by covid. That’s scary
That’s not entirely true..... it’s speculation that it could be caused by covid.... temporary myocarditis is caused by several viruses including covid. Myocarditis is what killed Hank Gathers as well..... it also sidelined a girl basketball player on my daughters team a few years ago.

Kara has that ESPN wokeness. Covid is real and sucks. Saw a tweet. 119k in hospitals today with Covid. That stinks but still represents .00036 of our TOTAL population. I would be in the transfer portal immediately. Glad she’s not our coach and said it before our last hire.

It’s impossible to definitively link myocarditis with a specific virus but there indeed is high suspicion it is related to COVID. Myocarditis is nasty though. Have seen some young adults get placed on ECMO because of it

We go to my in laws every year. They live out in the sticks no cell phone service but all the little ones and even older ones normally get stuck on wifi. Well the bomb in Nashville took out the at&t hub so their internet didn’t work. It was the most fun I’ve had in a very long time. Everyone laughed the kids all played. It was nice. I hope everyone had a good Christmas with their families.

The big ten ran with a story earlier this year about myocarditis being bad in athletes that had covid.... that proved to be false and they had to run a retraction...the stories I have seen about the Florida player just seem to be about it being a possibility without any evidence that it likely caused it.... with myocarditis being so prevalent amongst basketball players.... it looks like it would be part of regular testing.
