Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2025-26

If Notre Dame is out it could continue you won't see both on the schedule. I expect Stanford to return and there was talk of Indiana continuing. I think we'll continue with Texas as well. There might also be a home and home coming with Duke. I don't expect to play more than four top teams out of conference in any season. The rest will be the ones that everybody else plays so you can get more home games without having to go on a road game in return.
Geno typically books as many top teams that he can. I arbitrarily picked 2016 to check their OOC and for that year they played; Florida State, Baylor, LSU, Dayton, Chattanooga, DePaul, Texas, Notre Dame, Kansas State, Ohio State, Nebraska, and Maryland. I am pretty sure Dayton was scheduled as part of a senior game event. I'm not sure how Chattanooga got on the schedule. they did have two exhibitions against IUPUI and Pace. Road games are viewed as part of the UConn experience. Whenever possible they book an extra day and Chris Daly schedules some type of learning or exposure trip for educational value. The trips try to include a dining event to prepare the ladies on how to behave in different circumstances (also because Geno is a foodie).

Glad someone else noticed this. Unfortunately, it looks like certain players spent the pandemic like the rest of us. In Marta's case, it really hurts the versatility of her game and now she's playing the four mostly by default...

Without talking other freshmen where there is a lot of conditioning opportunity, a back up guard that has the same issue. Now they shouldn’t be playing against legit competition but it is a strange look for a major program by this time of year.

Sadly, I think this year is UConn's to lose. Their starting 5 has no real weaknesses, and they have enough depth on the bench to not have a drop off. I didn't think Bueckers would come flying out of the gates like she has. As impressive as Clark, Van Lith and Paopao have been...Bueckers has had no problems showing why she was the #1 recruit.

Weird how that works most of the time.

If Westbrook is going to keep playing at this level, UConn might be the best team in the country... a year ahead of schedule...
Paige's comments on Evina:
“She’s one of the best people I’ve ever been around in my life,” Bueckers said. “She’s a really great leader. Even today, my shots weren’t falling at first, but she pushed it out of me to keep going, keep shooting... She’s our leader on our team and she does everything for us. She’s going through pain sometimes in practice, but she goes through it, she stays extra in drills and she does extra work after and before practice. Just to see how hard she works, it’s really inspirational.”

She may turn out to be what she was supposed to be,,,there's a reason she didn't reach her level here,,,CHW

The look on the girl's faces, especially Andrea, says it all...
"This is Tennessee...Get the ball inside!"

AP source: Duke women end basketball season amid virus
The men’s team is likely to follow suit and then a sort of snowball effect with the rest of college basketball... stay tuned... this would suck, but I guess I understand

I don't see it. I can see a pause on the season maybe but canceling the entire season at this point? I 'm just not seeing it. I'm pretty confident a season will finish. It will be like college football and will be pretty haphazard but it will happen.

I would welcome that... I really hope it does finish even if there is some sort of a pause. I know it’s crazy playing during a pandemic, but selfishly I want them to be able to keep playing lol

I don't think that the Duke men will opt out of the season, but I suppose that it's possible. Unlike March, however, the sport will move forward unless an impossibly high number of P6 conferences (4, maybe 5) were to call it quits. Since that's highly unlikely to happen, there will be basketball through March.

Too much money involved on the men's side, especially for the tournament. They won't cancel as a whole

Yeah and I saw somewhere today that the university made a statement saying the men still plan to play so the Duke women look to be the only power 5 team that will do that as of now

I'm sorely afraid that in mid-January we will see another massive surge in cases, just like we did in mid-Dec, due to all the holiday travel and socializing. I read yesterday that Tenn now has the highest new case rate in the country. I'm praying for you all.

As of 12/24 the Tennessee case rate was 119/100K. Next highest was California at 105/100K. While most of the nation is slowly recovering from the recent spike the infection rate in some states continues to rise.

I actually saw that and had polar opposite thoughts. IMO it’s a very GOOD look for Duke WBB. To make such a heartbreaking decision for a group of young athletes whom I am sure would love nothing more than to play, was not only gutsy, but was so obviously from such a place of deep love and care for the current/future health and well-being of everyone in that program that it’s incredibly touching to me.

That Kara Lawson and the women she leads came to this decision isn’t actually surprising to me. Smart leaders lead smartly, and Kara has definitely thought this matter through to every possible conclusion. IMO she and her program will one day be so proud that they made this decision.
