Did Tee Really start this ?

Of course not but he did play here and he does have passion to see us succeed and that’s an important variable

When you put all the information related to what it historically takes to be a successful coach, "played here" and "passion for success" only bear legitimate weight on Lifetime or Hallmark movie plots, maybe a bad cinematic release if it's lucky enough not to go straight to streaming.

If you look at historical and anecdotal data available from Tee's time elsewhere and the lack of HC offers at this level (not sure about FCS or D2) sand combine it with his position's output here, I think you'll find there's not much data to give weight to any offer of a HC position from Tennessee.

There really are no intangibles. There are data points for everything. And for Tee, the real numbers don't add up.

As an engineer, I appreciate good data, but come on man. You sound like a statistics major. Love the passion for data but there are ALWAYS intangibles. Using data points to determine whether or not a man is HC material is kind of ridiculous. How much data was there on Swinney? How much good data was available for Orgeron before he won a natty? What about Fulmer? Do you also use data points to determine who you should ask out on a date or how you want your steak cooked? I don’t consider myself a “Tee for HC” guy but it wouldn’t shock me if he succeeded. 1) He’s a good leader 2) He’s got a good head on his shoulders (putting wife’s career first shows his wisdom) 3) He has an established network in and around Knoxville, boosters, former players and University staff. 4) He’s a good recruiter

If he put a good staff together and let them do their thing while making sure everyone is pulling the same direction... why wouldn’t he succeed?

Maybe because he is skipping out on important coaches meetings? That is if the rumors are proven to be true. And being an engineer, you of all people on here should know you can't hire candidates for the job without proper qualifications, references and proof of previous job experience. It is hard enough finding the right employ who does check all the boxes on the list. Until he goes out and prove it elsewhere, he will never be ready for this job.

You say all that and ignore the fact that he’s in a similar position that Phil was in before he took over and took us to the top. I don’t believe the skipping meetings rumors. No reason to believe some rando on Twitter.

I believe in hiring people because of their drive, commitment, and potential. I got my first job as an engineer after spending a summer replacing shingles on roofs. I graduated at the bottom of my class. I have no reason to be in the position I’m in today other than the grace of God. It helps that people like me. People know they’re going to get good quality from me and my staff because I genuinely care about the clients we serve. It has nothing to do with me being talented (some of my coworkers are among the best in the world though... that helps!) Maybe that’s why I wouldn’t be surprised if Tee succeeds. When people genuinely care all bets are off.

You nailed it, honestly. I have a research field PhD (just graduated this August) and spent way too much of my doc years in linear regression interpretation at an R1.

I hate SPSS. But I digress.

Intangibles are just tangibles that don't have labels yet. If Tee were at some point named HC, I would want him to succeed in all phases of program management or delegate the difficult areas to the right people. But I recall too many questions when he was at Kentucky and USC from their fan bases about his ability to lead or innovate even as a position coach. I would love for him to prove them wrong.

My dad taught me that you earn the right to lead the pack by leading from where you're at in the pack. I need to see him be the best (most driven, hardest working, etc) position coach on the field for his team before handing him the reins to a program

Phil coached half a season as interim to show that he had some HC abilities, and he took over a team and staff that Majors built and was ready to go from day one.

Tee is not in that position, and has shown no ability to be a HC at all much less the ability to rebuild a program that has been dissentigrating for 15 years.

Gotta learn to separate the emotion out of it. Forget Fulmer and his one rare victory due to having Cutcliffe and a legacy built off of Peyton. I want the next Neyland, Sabin, or Dabo and I can care less how many coaches UT has to hire and fire to find that guy.
Tee in all probability is not that guy. So lets just cut out the middle man and skip him.

I want Hugh Freeze or Matt Campbell. Got much respect for Malzahn and Mel Tucker. Curious about Chadwell and Napier. Tee not in my top group or next group I’m just saying I wouldn’t rule out that he could get it done. Emotion is an important element. Not the most important. But important nonetheless. If a man’s heart isn’t in what he’s doing, he’s likely to fail.

JMO. Enjoyed the convo. Merry Christmas!

Yes. I'd need to see him call plays for a season in the heat of SEC battle.

How many times was Tee mentioned for openings on staff here, and he declined? Then, once he was passed over for OC at USC, he finally comes back. Now, his name is mentioned, whether true or not, as one of the inside sources for information leading to an internal investigation. Points to someone I have zero trust in to do the right thing for anyone other than himself. Fulmer 2.0. He was given the keys to a loaded team in 98, and didn't wreck it. He hasn't shown the ability to be selected for an OC anywhere, and yet people want to hire him as our coach. Appears to be a lot of masochists on this forum. I have zero interest in him being the coach of this program.

The same reasons Fulmer shouldn't be an AD here, if you take the fact that Tee played here out of the conversation then we're not even having a conversation. Again, I appreciate his time here as a player however it needs to stay that way.

Here's the issue with bringing Tee in, you're going to have every former player thinking they deserve a spot on staff. This isn't like coaching 8U peewee football or high school football, this isn't a hobby, its a profession that requires extremely smart, manipulative and dedicated people. It's not some hang out, its a 90 hour a week job in season and a 60 hour week job during the offseason. Then you're going to have every former player demanding full access to the program, again I appreciate what these guys have done for this place however you want to talk about chaos and a quick way to land on the NCAA radar. Then it comes time to fire Tee, who's gonna do it? Do you know how many people would be butt hurt and I'm not talking about a few fanboys on this board, I'm talking about people who matter to this program. I'm hoping Fulmer retires soon so UT doesn't have to go through this with him but I'm starting to think they will have to pry him out of there.

Thanks for the reply, I just don't believe any of the scenarios that have been presented so far are never going to happen in 2020 or 2021.

Yeah me neither because ultimately I believe Pruitt returns and Tee moves on
Who knows. One thing I’ve been wondering today though is why haven’t we replaced our DL coach? Why did our OL leave on his own? Is it be a sign that Pruitt isn’t returning?

He was OC for 2 seasons at USC.
