How the F does FLA get away with firing with cause and we can’t? I honestly don’t get it. Understand what your saying but how does Florida get so lucky. Never heard a peep about it afterwards either.Look, people are locked into their narratives and I'm not invested in changing anybody's opinions. Everybody's entitled.
But I'll say this: firing with cause is very difficult and generally neither prudent nor financially advantageous. Fired coaches hire counsel and threaten to sue if terms aren't met. And every major program has things it doesn't want coming out in discovery. Because a fired coach will hold nothing back and may add a few embellishments, after leaking juicy tidbits to the media. And the reality is, when coaches color outside the lines, someone other than the coach knows about it, so you have problems up the chain.
See: Butch Jones.
Programs pay out contracts and have confidentiality agreements, because in a litigious society, it's the practical solution.
This x 100 stop with the dumb angles and excuses to make us okay with keeping Pruitt(not talking about everyone)Calipari has gotten in NCAA trouble with UMASS and Memphis and we are supposed to think he’s squeaky clean at UK? I really don’t get the Sankey angle. I’m sorry. @LA Vol
Can we just avoid the really obviously bad hires?
Lane Kiffin, Doug Marrone, etc. types
Lane made UT, USC of the south and absolutely left us high and dry. Just makes no sense, he's a great recruiter and a brilliant offensive mind. No denying it, but man...you can't trash other coaching names as "retreads" when the dude straight up quit on us before even signing his 2nd class. It's the worse kind of retread, the one who quit on us.
His results haven't exactly been world beater either, his best success was at the Group of 5 level and he even had a losing season there...

@InVOLuntary hold your breath until I apologize
Seriously that was a great post @drvenner.
But seriously @InVOLuntary I’ll time you
Kiffin isn't a bad hire. He got TN to 7 wins the year after a 5 win season and had a second elite recruiting class lined up. USC was his dream job, its not different than if a poster here was hired at lets say UCLA then came to TN the same way. Kiffin was 28-15 at USC and that was while spending two years dealing with sanctions from the Reggie Bush stuff. FIU was a terrible program when he took over and won the conference twice. He also has Ole Mis bowl eligible for the first time in 5 years, and has more conference wins in year 1 than Pruitt does in year 3. He has also played closer and scored a hell of a lot more on Alabama than Pruitt has ever dreamed about. He will be a home run and will end up at one of our rivals kicking our ass while we hire coach mcgoogle. Can we just avoid the really obviously bad hires?

If there is something we don’t want to get out and maybe @SpringBokVol can speak to this but if it’s something with Pruitt it could maybe help leverage a lower buyout if neither side wants it opened up in discoveries. On October 28, 2017, the Gators played the rival Georgia Bulldogs. Before the game there were rumors that Florida officials were considering firing McElwain for cause, though Athletic Director Scott Stricklin stated there were no such discussions. Florida lost to Georgia 42–7. The next day (October 29), McElwain met with Stricklin and other university officials. At that meeting, school officials told McElwain that they intended to fire him for cause, and contended that they did not owe him a buyout because he failed to tell them about the alleged death threats. Ultimately, Florida and McElwain mutually agreed to part ways, effective immediately. Defensive coordinator Randy Shannon served as interim coach for the remainder of the season.
I'll be real honest here, I think Jim thought he should be a bigger deal at Florida than what he was...seemed like his time there was going to be short. They never fired him with cause though, just tried to use that to force him out (and it worked).
Tennessee is the only school in the world that can’t even cheat properly. No matter what we do we end up in the dumpster. At least we won’t have any wins to vacate. If there is something we don’t want to get out and maybe @SpringBokVol can speak to this but if it’s something with Pruitt it could maybe help leverage a lower buyout if neither side wants it opened up in discoveries.
