Gus has 2 SEC titles and 1 National title under his belt. Freeze's ceiling is miles higher than winning titles? Please explain that one for me Bass.
He has a national title as an OC, not as a HC. He did great in 2013 at AU. He's been mediocre since, has had tons of problems with QB's with multiple 5 star QB's and no five star results. Not to mention, his offense is not innovative and he doesn't scare anyone in this league. Again, he would be like hiring Mark Richt. A good coach, but he isn't going to win a championship here. Freeze is winning at freaking liberty right now and took Ole Miss to heights they had never achieved. I'd take freaking Mehlen over Gus. I'd certainly take Freeze over him

I was just talking to @Bassmaster_Vol and had this thought.

Gus Malzahn has had at least 5 5* quarterbacks that I know of.

Mitch Mustain
Cam Newton
Nick Marshall
Jarrett Stidham
Bo Nix

All players who could go anywhere in the country to play. How is his development? Well, outside of Cam, how did those other guys do?
I couldnt care less if he developa QBs or goes the tranfer route. Kirby hasnt been able to develop a QB either and he’s had a lot of success. LSU too. The transfer thing is extremely common now.

Here’s how this plays out:

-Pruitt is back next year.
-At best, we go 6-6.
-Fulmer is pressured to make a change.
-Fulmer retires to avoid being made to fire Pruitt, and to keep his legacy intact.
-Powers that be (lead by Haslams) hire Kiffin.
-Tennessee is back

Warning: I have no sources and am stirring the pot. I will also claim all credit and none of the blame.

Auburn fan on Gus

"Gus recruited stars, but he didn't recruit need. He put low priority on recruiting lines. The PTB basically had to bring in Muschamp to recruit a defense, we were so inept on that side of the ball. We recruited small receivers, small running backs, high star TEs that rarely saw the field... Malzahn didn't know how to build a team. We need someone who can recruit talent AND need...not just siphon off the high stars none of the big programs are recruiting."

Gus Bus is fueled up and I’m here for it, Possum. @Bassmaster_Vol we need a conductor or someone to pass out flyers and pins. The job is yours if you want it.
You’ve all cast your dice...done with the lot of you. 😔

Nonsense.

-Fulmer gives Pruit a raise and extension.
-Fulmer gives himself a raise and extension.
-Tennessee is remains a steaming pile of excrement.

Dude it makes no sense. Half of VQ's board are on there saying he sucks. What game are ya'll watching? I don't know if I've ever seen a freshman manage the game as well as he does. He hasn't done anything to wow us yet. But he's started two games. He's only going to get better.
A lot of this can be contributed to the staff telling the likes of Hubbs, AP, Swain etc that Bailey wasn't any good. Those media guys have ran with that narrative all off season and into the season as why he is not playing. Clearly the coaching staff was wrong on that like they have been on the majority of their decision making.

Just so everyone is clear.

Gus did not win a National Championship as Auburn head coach. He did so as an OC with Cam Newton.

He has a National Championship game appearance, which he lost to Florida State.

While both of these plays absolutely count, because they happened, let us not forget this season was when the famous "Pick Six" kick return vs Alabama and the "Prayer at Jordan-Hare" tipped TD pass against UGA happened. Both are considered in football, "miraculous" and statistically, this season was insanely closer to being a 3 loss Auburn team than a team that played for the NC.

Just so we have that clear.

Here's the bottom line: Gus is a candidate you can get every decision-maker on board with. He's been successful enough to get the money people behind it, and he's safe enough to get Fulmer and the academic side behind it. Just a reminder: we still have a coach and we're not sure which way we want to go with him. Gus checks all the boxes and makes it worth the $20M to blow Pruitt out.

Freeze is not going to get a call from Auburn and he's not going to get a call from us. Face facts, guys. If Auburn won't touch him, that should tell you all you need to know.

If you want to talk about other candidates, I'm fine to do it, but the Freeze stuff is asinine and never going to happen. There are high dollar candidates like Campbell and Fickell, but the fact they will be so expensive (with no guarantee they will be successful in the SEC like Gus has) leads me to believe Tennessee would choose Malzahn over them. And then there are up and comers like Napier and Chadwell. With Malzahn as an option, we don't have to take a risk on them.
I would rather take a chance on Napier with his pedigree and experience than try Gus. But if we hired Gus To get rid of Pruitt, I am ok with that as well.
