I don't think that will be true unless we find out with some certainty that the resources were available and the power brokers were open to a change from a list of affordable candidates. I am not sure either is or is not true at this time. Have I missed some real updates? Every school has it's own set of financial abilities at this time. It is possible that the powers would prefer to have an expanded list of candidates that would be made available with a lot of fans in the seats next year.... full or not.... don't have a clue what COVID will allow nor the conviction of season ticket holders to show up.
You've missed a lot...................

1. Its going to cost UT more to keep Pruitt at this point
2. UT is getting ready to borrow money against it's TV contract money
3. UT as a Billion dollar endowment, they aren't hurting for money
4. Covid isn't stopping anyone from firing their coach

Guys, think we need to separate "better than what we have" from "good or great."

If we are going to spend $15M, the floor has to be "very good" not just better than Beldar Cornbreak, Botch and Orange Pants. Not trying to be disrespectful but using those as a reminder that we convinced ourselves each of those was better than his predecessor but in the end we are still up Schitt's Creek with another mediocre coach. This floor has to be "very good by all measurable standards."
Only way to go this time is to hire a coach with a proven track record of success at the P5 level.

Our admin won't do it - we'll fire Pruitt in 2021 after 2-5 start to next season and hire an "up and comer."

I don't think it has to be proven in P5. By those standards Stoops, Meyer, Pearl, etc would have not gotten their big gigs. My thresholds remain:
- Demonstrated you can build a program
- Demonstrated you can sustain success
- Demonstrated you can recruit at the highest level.

Our previous four coaches have checked 1 or fewer of those boxes when they were hired. Our floor should be 2 out of 3. That doesn't require P5 experience for me.

The reason it is called the Fulmer Cup is because a bunch of numbnuts from Georgia or Florida coined it and he was by no means deserving of it either at the time or during his tenure.
The award was conceived in 2006, when Tennessee was relevant and had a spate of player arrests over the preceding several years. Fulmer's teams the last 5 years or so of his tenure were borderline out-of-control with offseason arrests.

1. I'm not a fan of Gus, but seriously, look at what is going on in our program right now. We have a coach who does not want to be here and clearly doesn't give a 'ish and is in over his head... Gus, like him or not, would be an instant upgrade for now... Would rather have 4-5 other coaches, but at least he'd be better than gump.

2. Interesting, unless I missed it, haven't seen @LA Vol or @Atlanta VOL or a few others post since Saturday or before.... hmmmm...

Here's the thing - I don't trust our admin to identify and hire an actual up and comer. It can be done; I just don't think our admin can do it. They need to remove as much guesswork from the equation as possible and just go get a guy who has proven he can do it at this level. They won't do it, of course, but that's what they should do.

I just got around to watching the Vandy game. I’ve seen some bad SEC teams, but that one.... the Peabody College Replacements... was probably the worst defense I’ve ever seen. I can’t believe they’re even fielding a team. ☕
They're getting great PR for making history---

While the OC/QB Coach at Auburn Gus had 'em averaging 33.3 PPG, they went 8-5, 14-0, 8-5. Won the SEC & National title and Cam got a Heisman.

The season Gus leaves Gene is 3-9 and they drop to 18.7 ppg, the very next year Gus is the HC and they go 12-2 win the SEC again and play for another National title while averaging 39.5 ppg
When Gus first started he was cutting edge and an innovator like Rich Rod at WV. As the game caught up to Gus, his ego and stubbornness has led him to think he is STILL one step ahead of everybody, like Rich Rod. That's just not the case anymore. IF he goes to a different situation, maybe that will change. If it does, I will happily admit to being wrong.

It's always calm before the storm

Worst case scenario: Texas AM lays an egg but barely wins and Fulmer and Boyd takes that as us improving so holds off on firing him

Freeze worries me.

Last season Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Arkansas, & Missouri all had spots. None of them went near Freeze, and Arkansas gave Pittman his first HC gig while Missouri hired a guy with just a single season of experience.
Now this season South Carolina, Vanderbilt, and now Auburn all with openings and if Freeze isn't seriously a candidate for a 2nd year for a SEC job the chances we'd go after him seem to be slim to none.

No disagreement here. They have proven their incompetence repeatedly. We will all be somewhere between stunned and pleasantly surprised when they finally get it right.
