Recruiting Forum Football Talk III

But are the right people growing tired? As a former player and a NC winning coach, I have love for Fulmer, but I think he's over his head as AD. I think he truly loves UT, but I also think he values his own opinion too much. Football has evolved since the days of his success. Our way of thinking needs to change with it, and I don't think his has.
Fulmer knows that firing Pruitt is the right thing to do for the program but Fulmer knows that firing Pruitt isn't the right thing to do for Fulmer. Thats the problem and to your point, you're right Fulmer thinks you can still put your hand in the dirt and win games 10-3 and thats not happening now.

Each to their own I guess. I will not sell my soul to the devil for a single win. It is not like he has one MAJOR issue in his background. I do believe it is possible to see the light and become a responsible human being, but if he goes anywhere this year after signing his deal, then I will not believe he has taken that path.
I don’t know where the crystal clean image of the program comes from. It’s football. It’s gladiators. Fulmer recruited some of the meanest dudes out there. And that’s on and off the field. It’s called the Fulmer Cup for a reason. When we were winning we were doing the same shady things that the Bama’s, UGAs, Clemsons and Ohio States are doing now.

I also don't subscribe to Pruitt being an absolute indictment on Fulmer. That situation was a clusterfk and he came in for the aftermath of an unprecedented social media, fan base, booster, etc barrage. Even knowing what we know now about Pruitt, it's still impressive that Fulmer was able to get him here.

Pruitt was a roll of the dice with no head coaching experience. Fulmer probably heard from enough people that it was worth the risk. He had no idea how hard headed he was.

Fulmer told a story at the celebration for the 1998 NC team held days after the win.

He said the team looked awful in practice before Syracuse game. He was walking around the facility when Dickey walks up to him. He said what’s wrong Phillip? Fulmer said he just kinda looked around. Dickey said well whatever it is I still love you. Fulmer said back to him Doug will you still love me when we don’t win a game this season? Dickey replied with of course I will love you.... gonna miss you around here but I’ll still love you.

I'm with you on that for now however if Pruitt comes back next year then he will be directly attached to Fulmer

I’m wondering if Fulmer or someone high up is using LWS as a mouthpiece to float this out there? They use numerous mouthpieces on these boards to float info out and see what the reaction is. Not saying they make decisions just based on that, but they like to get a feel for how the fanbase would react.

I wonder if the powers that be would be more interested if Kiffin told them he would agree to an unreal number for a buyout from his end if he left for anywhere? Say $50 million or some crazy number like that?
Haha you have quite the imagination

I’ll say one other thing about Kiffin...as much as we were all burnt by him leaving us high and dry, we are at the point that we just want to win and win big. He would give us that chance with a great DC hire. If we would ink him to a deal that has a number so high that there’s no way he would consider leaving on his own (and I would also make our end of the buyout low), then I would say let’s ride and win! He’s another hire that me and our secret group texting buddies would call immediately and get season tickets for next year. Amirite, @volatil @InVOLuntary and @Sugaray13?
Make it happen

When I was in the POTS, Dickey came and gave us a speech where he basically told us we weren't needed as long as the team is winning. Personally, I like to think we contributed to a great gameday environment. I mean, imagine a game without "Rocky Top"? But he was pretty blunt. The only thing that mattered was winning. Personality-wise, Dickey's name suited him, but that might be what made him a good AD.

This is what so many are missing. He no longer gets a pass as the AD for the hiring of Pruitt if he retains him when all facts are known. Up to this season he gets the pass. He stepped into a mess and made the best decision he could from a pathetic list of candidates. No more. The entire sports would knows it is time to pull the plug and Auburn just put a big whammy on him to force the issue.

Sunday. If not, his legacy is tied to a lame duck Bammer for life.

Again, it wasn't hiring Pruitt that attaches them IMO. It's that damn extension.

Idk why folks are mad at Fulmer. It's incredibly understandable and justifiable to wait until after the season concludes. None of the candidates would change any esd kids. Imo.
I don’t think it matters this year. I’m sure with covid and eligibility and the transfer rule any kid who wants to leave, especially with a changed, could leave any time.

I don’t understand this train of thought. Gus is literally the only decent coach Pruitt has beat.
I get that, but Gus has also shown that he is one of the only guys that can beat Saban too. If we’re in the market for a head coach I just think that he’s the best option by far. Him and Freeze have and will lose some stupid games to go along with great wins but I would take Gus over freeze, especially if Steele comes along too.
