If we hired Gus I’d know we weren’t going to be hanging out with Vandy and MSU anymore.
Bingo. You have to roll over before you crawl, crawl before you walk, walk before you run, then you take off. Pruitts ceiling might be rolling over, but right now it looks like he's gonna get stuck on his side. Gus is a guy that gets you to walking. Then you find the guy that runs with the thing.

Just go back and watch the first handoff Dee Beckwith gets. With about 3 mins left in the game. Watch how he finishes that run. His size and burst jumps off the screen. Kind of reminds me of Jalen Hurd. You gotta play this guy. What are we doing?

I would love to see him and Gray featured against A&M. They could compliment each other so well. Gahh. What a missed opportunity. I would guess we don't see him get another snap this year cause it's no fun allowed at Tennessee apparently. Such a shame.

Put your jackets on cause I'm thinking it's gonna get chilly soon.

As I said above. Gus would be like hiring Richt. Would stabilize the program but we’d be wanting him out in 5-6 years because it will be evident that he’ll never compete for a championship. The same reason AU fired him today.
I'm not a big fan of Gus but if he competed for championships at the barn how is not possible that he could do it at Tennessee. Also, Gus is hardly a failure Bass..

1. Freeze - Home run hire.
2. Kiffin - it could be destiny and let's be honest this would be the funnest ending to the Kiffin/Vols story. Because once he started leading us to significant wins (and he would), the past would fade away. It would be about the players again. He would make us extremely good and I'm on team let's be good. It also wouldn't shock me if he's still climbing and does want back here. He may feel some of the disadvantages he faces at Ole Miss. He knows the resources we have and it's possible he wants to make things right again at Tennessee. But then again this feels like the longest of shots to me and I won't be heartbroken if it doesn't happen.

3. Maybe Gus. I don't know. Him with Salter/Gray/Beckwith could be amazing. I would probably talk myself into it but I don't love it.

Exactly on point about Kiffin. Once the wins over the big 3 came, fans would be happy as hell again. Everyone on here cussing his name every time he was brought up, would be talking about what a great coach he is. It needs to happen.

The idea of him leaving another SEC job after just one year seems crazy but I guess if anybody is capable of it it's him. Would be fascinating to be on the other end of it this time.

I have a hard time believing on our end we would swallow our pride and actually consider it. We would get raked and called fools in the media. For crawling back to Kiffin. But still. The talk would pass with time. Meanwhile he would be working. Building us a winner. Not even worrying about it. Recruiting top talent. It makes sense that he could want to leave MS to come coach in the East. That's what Mullen did. Returned to where he once coached. The path to Atlanta is clear. You have to get good enough to beat UGA/Fla. He knows exactly what it takes at Tennessee. He planned it out and lived it but took himself out of the game before he even got a chance to really try. I bet it still bothers him. An itch he hasn't been able to scratch ever since.

Who knows though

I agree with this. Although Gus would be #2 and Lane #3 for me personally

Exactly he knows the job. He also knows TN would give him better resources. Could you say Champ as his DC? I wanted him back when we hired Butch, I wanted him when we hired Pruitt, Lane needs to come back. And the story of leaving wouldn't be too bad, because TN is an upgrade over Ole Miss. But also he's making connections in TN with our guys so the loaded 22 class would already have a relationship with him and it wouldn't be starting over for the program with those guys. I also think Kiffin wouldn't leave this time unless its for the NFL again.

Think so. Someone said a week or so ago. Kiffin is making it known behind the scenes he wants the TN job back. But LWS also said it would never happen so.....
Thought so. Makes me think fulmer already shot it down (not surprising)

What would be insane is if the rumors Haslem trying to comeback in and get rid of Fulmer is true..... and he wants Kiffin

It's fascinating to think about. He's evolved a lot since 2009. And he might have pulled it off here if he stayed. But he's in his prime now. Would be a monster hire.

Agreed. Maybe I just forgot how wild it was, but I actually enjoyed that drama that Kiffin created. I mean, if we are considering Briles or Freeze, we might as well throw Kiffin in there. Actually, I think I would prefer Kiffin over any other coach out there, including our current coach, whom I haven't given up on yet.

You have to get rid of Fulmer first though.

Ultimately heck yeah I would take Gus if it means getting Pruitt out. It's an upgrade no doubt. But still imo Freeze > Gus.

If Freeze was at Auburn instead I think he'd have done even better than Gus. Maybe not a ton better but I think Freeze is at least slightly better, especially now in 2020.
