Bailey is our QB

Arm strenth is kinda overrated if you can't read the defense unless you play in one of those simplified offenses
Looks like he does a pretty good job reading defenses to me based on minimal playing time. That will improve

It feels like the other 10 rally around HB. I’m not saying they quit on JTS, but I think they have more confidence in HB.

I know that’s intangible, but it feels that way to me.

If only the Oline would give him a little more protection. He's very good with the short to intermediate passes.

JG is history. Sorry JG, you don’t get a 6th year.
True. It's odd though that as stubborn and adamant CJP was all year about playing JG due to practice habits and practice performance, he's been totally silent about him since the Auburn game. CJP's words and actions don't match enough and PR is part of a HC's job, like it or not. The guys on VolQuest said 2 weeks ago JG prob would not see the field again ... but CJP has not uttered a word, I assume that's because the next question would be "So you are admitting you've been wrong all season ?"

He has addressed it. He even said something about in yesterday’s post game. He said that as the season has evolved, opportunities have come that have allowed HB to get the reps he needed to be able to play and that JTS has improved as the season progressed.

Of course, one may have plenty of criticism of those comments, but he hasn’t been silent.

Then that's on me, my bad, I just haven't heard it.

I suspect the real truth is that Pruitt believes he played Maurer too early last season and didn't want to make the same mistake with Bailey. However, I also think Bailey is much more mature than Maurer and was more prepared to start as a true Freshman.

The only reason I've given Pruitt a partial pass is because of Covid. With a legit offseason, it's completely plausible that Bailey is the starter much earlier in the season and we're finishing the season 7-5 or 8-4 with a Freshman QB (which remember, was exactly how Peyton Manning finished his first season). I don't think Pruitt wanted to throw Bailey into the fire early, though, given the limited reps in the offseason. And you could see some of the reasons last week against Florida; while Bailey played OK, it was obvious he still wasn't on the same page as the WRs. Felt like he cleaned up much of the communication this week, though. He learns quick!

And HB at his worst right now looks better than JG 80% of the time.

He is just better. Shrout may have an edge for deep throws, but that’s it. HB makes better reads and decisions.
At one point, I thought Shrout was a better option for his arm strength, but after a rewatch focusing on qb only, I tend to agree. He does seem to see things and anticipate better than Shrout. With S&C and as he matures, I think his arm will likely improve. He should remain the starter vs aTm.

That's my take on it as well.

Bailey will look much better next year with an offseason to learn and get his timing down. He misses some open long throws....needs to correct that. But he looks like he has the ability to hang in the pocket and go through his reads. He's also a better scrambler than I expected.

Imo, Shrout is better at this time on deep throws, but Bailey is better on mid to short throws. This is not to say Bailey will not improve on the deep throws because I think he will. He is a true freshman. And he does have good enough arm strength to get the job done, both in college as well as nfl.

Everyone talking about the deep throw issues, HB connected on them quite a bit in HS. It’s just a timing thing. Hasn’t worked with the REC core enough...

I totally agree with that, I watched his highlights from hs. And the arm strength is good enough, not as strong as Shrout, but arm strength alone is not the determining factor. Bailey did miss on the deep throws long, and yes, it is all in timing. We must understand, he has had very little practice time with the team, while Shrout has been here 3 years. Shrout and jg both have better arm than Peyton, but who had you rather have as qb?

Of all the QB’s on our current roster, only 1 has an NFL arm and that’s JT Shrout. Sure he’s made some dumb throws but he’s not had much playing time. He’ll get a shot in the NFL some day and it’s a shame this staff has wasted that talent
He threw, under pressure, off of his back foot, falling to his left, into traffic. HB throws that ball out of bounds, or steps out of bounds. Do that against A&M, and it will turn into 6 pts. Shrout did this in high school, and has continued to do this, through his Sophmore season. HB didnt do it in High School, and doesn't do it, now.

i think you still play them both. i thought Bailey had the edge today, but Shrout looked better last week. Plus wrs dropped a few of Shrout's passes. this is a good spot to be in moving forward!
