Saban the genius

Thanks for proving my point.

How about we hire a proven HC that’s been in this position before instead of hiring coordinators that are learning on the job?

Pruitt was a moronic hire, now you’re really starting to see the results.
You act as if we have never tried to hire a proven head coach. We have been turned down by everyone except Majors. We got him because he played here. No reason to continue to train young coaches and fire them just before they have learned enough to become a good coach. It took at least 6 years for Majors to become a winning coach in the SEC. We will never develop a winning program when we hire and fire a new coach every 4 years.

With all of Pruitts inadequacies perhaps he shouldn’t have been hired. I also find it hard to believe the Vols talent level was less than Arky, Vandy, UK, South Carolina, Miss Stathe or Ole Miss.
Look at the number of players drafter by the NFL. We even had one year when no one was drafted. One of the keys, is who have we had at the most important position on a football team,QB. Dobbs was the best we have had in the last 10 years or so and he was was so effective because he was the best runner in the SEC. mJust think what he could have done at RB. This year we have a real definite at QB, TE, ISLB.S, and CB. there is help in our true Freshmen and still help coming in the 2021 class.

We were 0-8 in the SEC when Pruitt got here, I doubt he's had the luxury of being too picky in recruiting in order to stack the WR position as Saban has the last few years. I think he's trying to build a team that's good at all levels on both sides of the ball, just takes time.
Youre right
Hes the guy
Just needs 7 more classes

Man you sure are earning that retainer Pruitt paid

Saban is king of college football, Pruitt can’t even carry his jock strap! Everyone needs to stop worrying about Bama and concentrate on Vols football. Y’all have Bama on the brain!!!! Focus on Tennessee football and stop worrying about what the rest of the SEC is doing......
Okay. Focusing....fooocussiiiiinnnng. Yup. After a quick assessment, we're terrible and the coach isn't qualified. Now, what's going on at Alabama...

Bama gets 25 first picks in the HS draft every year. They are going to look good no matter what they do.[/QUOTE]

According to 247 Georgia has the most talented roster in college football based on recruiting rankings.

The rules of football have changed. Defenses are so hamstrung it’s almost impossible to play receivers head up without getting a holding or PI penalty. Saban was quick to realize the game is not about having a shut down defense but receivers who can get open. Jeremy Pruitt is still trying to build a defense when defense doesn’t matter with the rules today. If you hold your opponent to 25 you can win. That’s where we need to go

Yep. Saban learned a lot from playing against HUGH FREEZE.

Our defense has actually done quite well with holding the opposing team to field goals.
But then the offense throws a pick or just fizzles out.

Our defense has played well enough to have a good season.
I've actually been surprised by how few turnovers we have gotten this year. Turnovers are typically Pruitt's calling card, but this year, I think we have gotten what, 2-3 interceptions? And very few fumble recoveries?

Our defense has been decent given what it lost in Bituli, Taylor and Warrior, but it hasn't been the level that anyone wants it at. Hoping next year we see some improvement, especially in the secondary.

And yet didn't even win their division. I dont know what's worse, having the talent and never winning the big games, or not having the talent and never getting there. I think we both live in different hells.

Who would you say is a real definite at QB, TE, ISLB, S and CB?

I dont see anyone on our current roster or recruiting class that I'd consider a "real definite"

Well it never hurts to have a lockdown D. Just ask the air raid teams or the run and gun or any team really when it comes to that one championship game. That said - if you got your scholly budget and you are rationing it out it’s probably better to lean towards speed and scoring right now. It’s cyclical though. Points get scored then they figure out how to shut it down...
Lock down defense? We are getting beat by double digits every game by every team we play.

Doesn't hurt nick that he is at a very corrupt program too. All about winning and those folks will do anyting to win. A guy and program that make and go by their own rules.
And have zero chance of being punished for it. The SEC and NCAA picks winners and losers.

You think we have a winner now?

If this were the case Alabama from 1996 to 2006 would have never produced the result of Nick Saban in 2007. After their run on bargain basement coaches they realized that you can’t shop at Walmart for a Neiman Marcus coach. They decided that their only way to win championships was commit the program to excellence.

Tennessee only has a goal of being average and aspiring to be above average. Their strategy is way too obvious and that is the reason very good coaches have no desire to coach here. Look at the way we hire coaches and tell me where I am wrong.

If you remember Saban’s people (Jimmy Sexton) reached out to Alabama about the head coaching job. Not the other way.

I wasn’t talking about our current defense. I was taking about the cyclical emphasis on offense vs defense and how it changes back and forth and that having a tough D often has an impact in big games...

Not sure if it’s been mentioned but Saban looks bad. Covid may have been rough on him. He still looks sick in the eyes
