SDS: Pruitt is coaching for his job this weekend

If that's the litmus for being the coach at the University of Tennessee just fill in Neyland Stadium and make it a flower garden. I said in another post and he could win 86-0 and it means absolutely NOTHING. Good lord - beating one of the worst teams in CFB the way it was - and now factor in they have only 40 warm bodies and have even lost their best players off of the already bad team - what does it prove to beat them? That Tennessee could flex on a local high school team? Yippee.

You are correct. That article does nothing but p!$$ me off. The premise that Fulmer can save him with a win over a winless, terrible Vanderbilt team is preposterous.

Tells me Fulmer has the wrong standard and needs to go, too.

Definitely should be Vandy is terrible losing to them this year is something a coach that has Pruitt's record here thus far could not survive.

I really, really, REALLY, want Pruitt gone. It shouldn't come down to beating Vandy for the athletic department to decide to keep the football coach or not and if it does come down to that then he should already be packing his bags. I am not debating that in the slightest. It's pathetic how far the UT football program standards have fallen.

But if that is what it comes down to for the athletic department (and whoever else is involved) to fire Pruitt and get a coach that can actually...coach...then that is what I think needs to happen.

But we said that after Vandy beat us in 2012 ensuring Dooley would get fired then again after they beat us in 2017 ensuring Butch would get canned it’s like a Groundhog Day from hell with UT football the misery never ends.

In other words...in a way, Vandy is UT's coaching version of a brush fire. They've been clearing out dead wood and undergrowth (so to speak) that the UT admin has neglected to tend to since 2012.

He's on his way out regardless. Only question is when it happens. It ain't just that the wheels have fallen off the wagon; the wagon is already off the cliff.

Our fan base will be beyond toxic if Pruitt is roaming the sidelines next season.

Wouldn't surprise me if Sankey is going to announce that all football regular seasons are over at this point until the SEC championship game.

Most depressing thing in that article losing record to Vandy over the last 8 years and tied with them over the last 10 (5-5).

"Then the bottom dropped out of a rivalry that for decades has been one-sided, and currently is a microcosm of the dysfunctional Tennessee program. The Vols have lost 5 of the last 8 games, and within that span are losses in 2012 (Dooley) and 2017 (Jones) that were the last indignity that could be stomached by those respective coaching tenures."

I just can’t see us losing to a depleted Vandy. Pride alone should prevent that. If we lose to them then it’s time to fire people and stop trying to get pieces of coal trying to turn them into a diamond. Go out and buy a diamond.

Ok I will play. Who is with me?

What if UT wins by 1 point? How about 3? What if a fluke play that gets us the win? What a controversial call that wins us the game? Does that save his job?

Blasphemy! Honestly you’re making the coach bigger than the program. If you’re hoping for a loss you are not a true fan IMO
This take makes no sense to me. Will beating a terrible and depleted Vandy team make anyone feel any different about this season? If losing to them is what it takes to get rid of Pruitt, then it’s going to be better for the long term sake of the program to lose this game. It’s sort of like in the NFL when your team is eliminated from playoff contention, you should root for them to lose out to improve your draft position. What’s the point of winning meaningless games when it’s only going to hurt you in the long-run.

And like has been mentioned a number of time in this and other threads if it is this one game that is the determining factor, the decision has been made... Pruitt is here next year, let’s root on our vols to finish the season strong. Would I ever root for Tennessee to lose, absolutely not! No true fan would. Is some other coach gonna come in and be a definite fix, impossible to say outside of maybe Saban and a couple others.

the reality is we will likely win this game... not look great doing it... but will win... and it'll save Pruitt for at least the start of next season
