if we have to win a game from a team that has very little talent and barely has enough to even field a team this weekend... the coach needs to be reserving a uhaul now

Blast me if you want but I’m hoping Vandy beats us, for the sake of this program’s future.
But we said that after Vandy beat us in 2012 ensuring Dooley would get fired then again after they beat us in 2017 ensuring Butch would get canned it’s like a Groundhog Day from hell with UT football the misery never ends.

If your job is on the line playing an 0-8 team, you're already a dead man walking.

Agreed. It just shows the absurdity of how bad the management of this program has deteriorated. It gets worse...and you think it can’t get any worse...and it continues to get worse.

That article lays it out perfectly why Pruitt must be fired regardless of what happens. And if Vanderbilt is Fulmer’s measuring stick for Pruitt, then Fulmer needs to be fired too...like yesterday.

If this is where Tennessee is setting the bar now - then I will break down and hope Vandy wins. Not easy to do - but a loss to Vandy to cap this terrible season in a year that doesn't count, is better than another 3-win season next year where some jackass finally realizes it ain't working out, aight?

Extra Points: There’s no saving Jeremy Pruitt if Vols fall (again) to Vandy

“That loss isn’t survivable,” the source said. “Even (Tennessee AD) Phillip (Fulmer) can’t protect him at that point.”
It is patently absurd to weigh any coaches future on whether he beats Vanderbilt or not. If it comes down to that you've already seen enough. Beating Vanderbilt should be a non-debatable baseline expectation for the coach at UT. Losing to them should never enter the equation.

I remain unsure that dumping Pruitt is the right move after this season. If you can upgrade during the offseason, fine, but just firing him to fire him with the uncertainty baked in to this offseason in terms of the pandemic makes little sense if you don't wind up with somebody worthwhile. If I'm wrong and finding a suitable replacement will be easier than I think it will be this winter, sure.

All of that having been said, if I were a major backer of firing Pruitt, I would be pretty annoyed by this "he's totally gone if we lose to Vandy" red herring. I mean, that's probably true as far as it goes, but I don't think some folks realize how unlikely it is that we lose to Vandy. There seem to be a fair number of people on here who actually think we're gonna lose...but it's not gonna happen, folks. This is not an even matchup and beating them should not be any kind of problem at all. So we're almost certainly gonna beat Vandy and then be left with the same issues this time next week.

I believe we win on Saturday.

That said, if we have hit the point where beating a team:

1. Barely able to dress 35-40 guys;
2. Who started with lower tier talent anyway;
3. Does not have a head coach;

"saves" your job, then I'm just about done with Tennessee Football for awhile.
You know I left TN football when they fired CPF, I didn't come back until they hired Butch Jones. I should've stayed gone longer. I didn't even watch the Dooley Years.

I hope that we hate crime Vandy to a pulp. And that Pruitt gets his walking papers 5 seconds before the post game conference.
I liked this mainly for that last sentence. That would be the perfect way to say gtfo

Especially this year’s Vanderbilt team. And not only that, but they are going to be down to 3rd stringers and walk-on players for this game.

That's right.
Remember what Dooley said in the locker room ... something like, "One thing Tennessee always does, and that's kick the $--+ outta Vandy!"
Even Dooley knew that was the baseline expectation. However, he forgot that Kentucky was lumped right there with Vandy.
Oops.

I don't see how beating this Vandy team saves your job. That's truly stupid if our administration is using this game as any kind of measuring stick as to whether they should keep or dismiss Pruitt. The decision on this should have already been made.
Has anything that has happened in this football season made you believe they aren't truly stupid? That's the scariest part.

No coach should ever save his job here by beating Vandy. It's ridiculous.

Especially THIS Vandy team. For this game to be a job saver, it would have to be a game that indicates that this team is getting on track. Beating this Vandy team shows nothing.

I want Pruitt gone, now. But we aren’t losing to this Vandy team. They are historically awful, just fired their coach, and may have a real issue even fielding a team.

So beating this Vandy team shouldn’t be a barometer of anything. There is ample evidence that Pruitt is not a head coach.

It will be an real indictment of character and will if we do. Even more of a reason that this game shouldn't ever enter into the equation. It should just be an expectation.

Yeah this game will determine his fate. You can b.s other games but this one you cant.

If Pruitt survives this season, regardless of the Vandy outcome, my GAF will fall to zero until the UT AD and 'powers that be' decide to GAF themselves.
