This one really hurts since it is a position of importance. Current tight ends are serviceable at best and a true talent is badly needed. The other issue that is even more alarming is that with his de-commitment, we have only secured the commitment of 1 of the top 10 Tennessee recruits and 4 of the top 20. In my opinion this should be a huge red flag of how far down we have fallen. If you cannot convince more than 20% of the top talent in Tennessee to come to the state's flagship university, there is an obvious problem.
How would you know if they're serviceable or not? Fant has 9 receptions on the year. Six have come in the last two games. JG's weakness and slowness in reading D's... left the TE's unutilized.
While Pruitt (David Johnson) was able to make some headway in Memphis, this staff has never prioritized Middle TN, which is crazy given the population and demographic changes. This is coming from multiple coaches who have top 10 recruits in the State (Each has stated this staff is far less visible than the prior one).
I agree. It is somewhat puzzling that despite statements to the contrary, there doesn't seem to be more focus on in state talent in the mid-state.
Losing In State Kid does not look good on paper but I have always questioned why we were taking so many TE Commitments. Campbell has more talent than Wolfe Coaches Prioritized him. Bell will be a OT not TE but the Kid from Oxford Al Roc Taylor will be a TE as well and is very good prospect as well. So at least we have really good players committed. ( The underlying question is Arik Gilbert in play) In CHRIST Alone.
I agree. I put the dvd in about 30 mins ago.It never gets old . I always watch it at least 1 time all the way through on the unedited version and then probably see it another 50 times on amc in the background.
Right now being a Vol fan feels like being enrolled in 2 decade long Jelly of the Month club.
It's not to the Derek Dooley levels of completely ignoring Middle TN. Those same coaches did indicate more focus in 2020 class compared to 2019 (Pruitt gets a pass for the 2018 class) but it's been at least a half dozen coaches who have said that Butch's staff was far more visible in Middle TN.
We've seen a huge dropoff in Memphis as well after Johnson left and we will likely cede that area to Kiffin until we make a coaching change.
