Hudson Wolfe decomitted

This one really hurts since it is a position of importance. Current tight ends are serviceable at best and a true talent is badly needed. The other issue that is even more alarming is that with his de-commitment, we have only secured the commitment of 1 of the top 10 Tennessee recruits and 4 of the top 20. In my opinion this should be a huge red flag of how far down we have fallen. If you cannot convince more than 20% of the top talent in Tennessee to come to the state's flagship university, there is an obvious problem.

While Pruitt (David Johnson) was able to make some headway in Memphis, this staff has never prioritized Middle TN, which is crazy given the population and demographic changes. This is coming from multiple coaches who have top 10 recruits in the State (Each has stated this staff is far less visible than the prior one).

How would you know if they're serviceable or not? Fant has 9 receptions on the year. Six have come in the last two games. JG's weakness and slowness in reading D's... left the TE's unutilized.

I follow quite a few recruiting services and that is one area all of them seem to actually agree upon. Additionally, most analysts agreed that coming into this season the TE position was one of the weak areas on the offensive side of the ball. Other than Austin Pope, who was lost for the year to injury, there was no true, complete TE on the roster. The TE situation was not helped by the QB issues, but the lack of a true, impact TE also can be seen as a contributing factor in our 3rd down conversion issues. There are a couple of the freshman athletes we recruited who could become a great TE, but the question is do you believe this staff can teach and develop one of them? If they can, it won't be until next year that we would hopefully see positive progression in that direction.

This year all the tight end has done is block. Some of these kids want to catch passes. They discussed this on volquest that TE dont get whole lot of balls thrown to them..

I agree. It is somewhat puzzling that despite statements to the contrary, there doesn't seem to be more focus on in state talent in the mid-state.

The question is, where's Rommel in all of this?

It's not to the Derek Dooley levels of completely ignoring Middle TN. Those same coaches did indicate more focus in 2020 class compared to 2019 (Pruitt gets a pass for the 2018 class) but it's been at least a half dozen coaches who have said that Butch's staff was far more visible in Middle TN. (Background: I was volunteer HS assistant for several Memphis HS in the past so I have made a good number of friends in the industry - Have a couple family members coaching in Middle TN as well).

We've seen a huge dropoff in Memphis as well after Johnson left and we will likely cede that area to Kiffin until we make a coaching change.

"Didn't really want anyway. Non-committable offer. Making room for higher rated player. Asked to leave. If he didn't want to be here....."

I didn't miss any did I?

Everything is fine...nothing to see here.

Losing In State Kid does not look good on paper but I have always questioned why we were taking so many TE Commitments. Campbell has more talent than Wolfe Coaches Prioritized him. Bell will be a OT not TE but the Kid from Oxford Al Roc Taylor will be a TE as well and is very good prospect as well. So at least we have really good players committed. ( The underlying question is Arik Gilbert in play) In CHRIST Alone.

Have you seen our TE play this year? That's why we took so many commitments.

It never gets old . I always watch it at least 1 time all the way through on the unedited version and then probably see it another 50 times on amc in the background.

Right now being a Vol fan feels like being enrolled in 2 decade long Jelly of the Month club.
I agree. I put the dvd in about 30 mins ago.

I agree. I know that based on talent alone, to be an elite program we have to recruit regionally and nationally. It seems to me that if you can at least bring in 4 or 5 of the top 10 players and at least a couple of the 11 to 20 rated players in state, you would also bring in kids who are more likely to truly bleed orange or at the least feel a distinct desire to represent their hometown at the state university. These could be the leaders on the team it desperately needs.
