Jarvis Giles

You're missing the point. RC's just a title. I was basically saying I wouldn't be surprised to see Drayton assume the spot on the staff vacated by Reaves.

They could call Drayton the WR coach, CB coach, or shift Gillespie and make him the RB coach.

Again, it's all speculation and conspiracy theory. The point is that there are 2 offensive vacancies on the Gamecock staff...1 will be for an OL coach, the other has some flexibility, but they'll be seeking a known recruiter to replace Reaves.
Dude, you said step into the "vacant recruiting coordinator position". Now you're trying to backtrack.

Dude, you said step into the "vacant recruiting coordinator position". Now you're trying to backtrack.

Dude, there's no backtracking. No vacancy on the Gamecock staff has been filled. They assigned a new title to Beamer. Reaves' job is still vacant.

There is no "vacant recruiting coordinator" position just the same.

You're completely missing the point.

South Carolina lost its top recruiter. Slapping a new title on a guy who was already on staff did nothing to replace Reaves. The vacancy is still there.

I probably shouldn't have worded my original post as "vacant recruiting coordinator" position, but I didn't think it'd be so hard to comprehend the fact that Reaves' former spot is still vacant on the staff.

I seriously doubt that they go after Drayton. JMO. And even if they do, I doubt that decision is even being considered at this point and if so, Giles isn't privy to it.

I can't see the article on rivals about what Giles said after Kiffin's visit. Can anyone get to it?

Said he liked Kiffin. Kiffin is an honest, straightforward guy. Kiffin told him everyone was on an even playing field and if he earned his spot he'd get to play. Giles liked that seniority wasn't a factor and that everyone was on an even playing field.

Giles said Tennessee and South Carolina are ahead of Nebraska, and that He is meeting with Bo Pelini tommarrow.

Disagree completely. I think this guy is a diva and an attention whore no matter if we get him or not. Reminds me a lot of Chris Singleton situation... not the same really but just the whole process is made up to be something that its not. Most people didn't pay attention to him until he decommitted, so that's part of the reason.

No one said his 'issues' will go away. He probably doesn't have 'issues'. He tries to act like a thug judging by his myspace... but from what I know.. he's a pretty good kid and hasn't gotten in trouble.

The Hopson situation was way different. Kentucky fans on catspause are just plain mentally ill. He decommitted due to the fact that his coach was majorly pushing him to go to MSU and has a pipe or whatever to Stansbury. Don't think it was his high school coach. The kid was pressured and didn't feel he made the right decision, so he opened up his recruitment again.

This kid, Giles, though... he didn't seem to shook up about the loss of Fulmer - and always, always, ALWAYS talked about Drayton and that was the only reason he wanted to come. That's why this whole situation and is stupid and doesn't make sense on his part.

My point was that when he was coming to UT, he wasn't a punk, or a prima donna, thug, etc...

When he re-opens his recruitment, he suddenly becomes all of the things above.

If he decides to go ahead and come to UT, 99% of the people saying all of this negative crap will be kissing his as%.

I hope we get him. If we don't, I wish him luck wherever he chooses to go.

I agree that the situation makes 0 sense with Drayton still on board. Isn't this the kid Drayton told that he needed to do what he has to do?

Here's what it comes down to....

USCe or UT either way, he is going to be pissing alot of folks off. His recruitment has became a soap opera.

His favorite coaches are at UT and his chances of going pro are better at UT. I think we get him and he will use his early enrollment to get a headstart on the other incoming backs. Kiffin is sellling him his dreams and early enrollment is an advantage.

I know what your point was. My point was - no one saw his myspace/facebook etc... or his "ego" before he decommitted. No one really paid attention to any of that crap because it hadn't been sparked. I promise people would have been saying "a lot," not "all" for sure,(because there are those types of people in every fan base) of those things if they had taken the time to research.. we don't really look into a kid (the average recruit follower) when we feel he's firmly committed...

Yeah we may look at how many stars he is or what his 40 time is but that's about it.

He probably isn't a thug or punk and from what I know hasn't gotten into any trouble... just the usual guy trying to act like he's "ghetto." But he definitely seems like the attention whore type like a lot of the big recruits are their senior year of high school and such.

If it was up to JG, no major coaching changes would have occured at UT and he would've never had to reopen his recruitment. He committed early and did not plan on getting this much attention or making his announcement a big deal. He is fortunate to have so many options and unfortunate in the situation he got caught up in. What are the chances that the school he decommits from grabs up the recruiting coordinator at the only other school he was considering. Now he's got two fanbases begging for his services. USC is bitter and desperate, UT has his favorite two coaches and his word that he would stay with Drayton.

A little bit of personality has came out since he decommitted but he didn't ask for this. His enrolling early and his recruitment is alot more visible. We are set at RB with OKU and Williams and I hope and think we get Giles. Lets just not be douches like USC and hope we get him. If we don't, good for them, and best of luck to JG.

He doesn't even act like he cares about Fulmer. All he talks about is Drayton, Drayton, Drayton. And he only decommitted because he thought his boy Drayton wouldn't be retained. So, all in all, I think he partly did bring it on himself.. and was looking for someway to get more attention.

Why decommit when the reason you committed to UT is still there? Doesn't add up.

I would totally understand your point if he acted like he cared more than a little bit when Fulmer was fired... but his main concern when he heard the news was Drayton.

Giles Down To A Final Two

By Phil Kornblut

RB Jarvis Giles (6-0 180) of Tampa is down to a final two of Tennessee, the school he once was committed to, and USC, the school he nearly committed to following his official visit in November. Giles said Sunday he's no longer considering Nebraska and canceled the in home visits with Nebraska coaches set for Sunday. As of Sunday afternoon, Giles said he is undecided between the two with his announcement set for around noon on Tuesday. "Both of them are tied," Giles said. Giles met Thursday with USC coach Steve Spurrier and running backs coach Robert Gillespie. Friday he was visited by new Tennessee head coach Lane Kiffin, running backs coach Stan Drayton, quarterbacks coach David Reaves and athletics director Mike Hamilton. "They showed me cut ups on a DVD of Reggie Bush and the offense they are going to run and how I would be a big factor," Giles said. "They were telling me just how much they would use me. Coach Reaves was telling me how much they need me. He said he wants a ring, a championship ring, and that's why he left, and he wanted to be with his brother-in-law." Giles said he was called Sunday morning by Drayton. As for what will be the decisive factor for his call on Tuesday, Giles said, "How comfortable I am with the school." Giles said once he makes his decision, he won't tell anyone until his news conference.

Wow, Mike Hamilton was there in Tampa? Anyone else know that?

Nebraska out of the picture. Just like I thought. Never thought they were too much of a threat to begin with.

Sounds like they did a good job of selling him. I guess we'll see in a couple of days.

I really feel like he goes to Tennessee. The USC in home didn't go nearly as well as the UT one and we put the full-court press on him. Last impressions stay. I feel good about it.

Wow, I hadn't realized that Hamilton was there too. Giles walked away very impressed from the Kiffin visit. If he's smart, he'll come to Tennessee-- I think something special is about to happen. Spurrier is on his way out - I give him a year or two before he retires to the greens.

He just said he would be here 4 or 5 more years...
