Jarvis Giles

I understand that, but a second press conference at school?

If you're going to do it, why not do it BIG? That's the mindset of most highly-rated HS recruits.

My guess is that he recommits to Tennessee. With Drayton and Reaves, UT has to be the frontrunner. The relationships are in Knoxville, as well as the immediate playing time.

Giles is all Vol.

You don't think he can have immediate playing time at USC? Do they even have a running back?

I thought so too before I looked at him closer.

My understandings are that Oku is fantastic and will be great in a year or two but that Giles has a serious chance for starting year 1 if he works hard this spring.

Lennon Creer may have something to say about that.

stevorino = a negavol. Everything in your posts in this thread and others has been negitive to Tennessee. Dude you need to turn that frown upside down!!!

What's funny is once he starts considering other schools, he's a prima donna, or a punk, or we don't need him because we have Oku, etc...

Yet, let him announce he's coming to UT on Tuesday, and all of his issues will magically go away.

We are as bad as KY fans that said they didn't want Scotty Hopson anyways, that Darius Miller was Mr. KY, Hopson has a bad attitude, etc...

Sad.

Giles can play as a freshman at most places, including USC... but Kiffin has the reputation for recruiting and playing outstanding freshmen talents. That's the difference.

lol, that made me laugh.

I REALLY hope we get him, but it doesn't look good. Apparently his facebook/myspace page or whatever said he was leaning gamecock.

I think Lane Kiffin is fantastic and his staff will be good, I'm just thinking we've lost the Giles and some people are being a bit optimistic about other recruits (like barkley).

Creer + Hardesty + Oku + Poole + Toney + Full backs, 2-3 of them would take all the handoffs. Giles might start immediately, but not until he survives the intense competition, which he would not see at NEB and SCAR

BUT I would love to see him here.

Questions: do we need our RB to be able to catch the ball?

Never said he would START immediately, just PLAY immediately. However, Kiffin will give Giles the same opportunity to be the starter that he gives Creer.

As far as your question about the RB catching the ball... I'd say that's a no-brainer. Kiffin will get the ball into the playmakers hands... whether it involves handing them the ball, tossing it to them, or throwing it their way.

We are so focused on all these rb commits--like 3 or 4 in this class. Don't we need to focus on some o-line and d-line guys?

I think it would be between UT and Nebraska. Giles has a better shot at actually starting early at Nebraska.

I've got a funny feeling about the Giles/Drayton relationship.

Giles has claimed, on numerous occasions, that he'd stick with UT if Drayton was retained. Well, Drayton's been "retained," and Giles doesn't seem to be satisfied. In fact, it's South Carolina who continues to look like the leader for Giles. It's almost as if Drayton's presence in Knoxville no longer matters to him. It doesn't make sense.

We all know that Drayton will be "evaluated" in the coming weeks before Kiffin makes a final decision on keeping him. I wonder if Drayton, like most of us, is suspicious that he'll be let go once the recruiting class is in place. Meanwhile, the South Carolina coaching staff has 2 offensive vacancies that Spurrier says won't be addressed until after the bowl game.

I think Giles commits to South Carolina on Tuesday. And, the conspiracy theorist in me wouldn't be one bit surprised if, weeks later, Drayton steps into the vacant "recruiting coordinator" role at South Carolina.

I think that says volumes about the job Reaves did on selling him on USC's depth chart and the opportunity to play early.

Disagree completely. I think this guy is a diva and an attention whore no matter if we get him or not. Reminds me a lot of Chris Singleton situation... not the same really but just the whole process is made up to be something that its not. Most people didn't pay attention to him until he decommitted, so that's part of the reason.

No one said his 'issues' will go away. He probably doesn't have 'issues'. He tries to act like a thug judging by his myspace... but from what I know.. he's a pretty good kid and hasn't gotten in trouble.

The Hopson situation was way different. Kentucky fans on catspause are just plain mentally ill. He decommitted due to the fact that his coach was majorly pushing him to go to MSU and has a pipe or whatever to Stansbury. Don't think it was his high school coach. The kid was pressured and didn't feel he made the right decision, so he opened up his recruitment again.

This kid, Giles, though... he didn't seem to shook up about the loss of Fulmer - and always, always, ALWAYS talked about Drayton and that was the only reason he wanted to come. That's why this whole situation and is stupid and doesn't make sense on his part.

I thought USC already filled that vacancy...

Woody McCorvey took the running back coach job at Clemson. Don't know if he backed out or Spurrier did, but McCorvey's at Clemson now.

Yeah, but you just said Drayton would take the RC position. It's already been filled.

You're missing the point. RC's just a title. I was basically saying I wouldn't be surprised to see Drayton assume the spot on the staff vacated by Reaves.

They could call Drayton the WR coach, CB coach, or shift Gillespie and make him the RB coach.

Again, it's all speculation and conspiracy theory. The point is that there are 2 offensive vacancies on the Gamecock staff...1 will be for an OL coach, the other has some flexibility, but they'll be seeking a known recruiter to replace Reaves.
