@Geronimo why were you wanting to know my connection to McMinn?
And to think that a smaller named coach with his no-name scrub staff will get us back to national relevance anytime soon. Telling y’all, it’s got to be a YUGE hire or we’re basically ok with becoming the new Vandy. I completely get the University may not hire Freeze or make some other HOMERUN hire. Totally get that. But that’s what it’s gonna take. If you’re ok with that then good, enjoy mediocrity. Also, the person who brought the twitter link about DEFCON status for CB recruiting is 100% spot on. Not just CB but secondary recruiting in general. Lost McGhee, missed on Green. It's a really bad scenario. Tank looking way too slow for safety without the instincts of someone like TKJr
I guess I don't exactly fall into that category because I would hire Freeze, but...
Like other coaches in his position, people have a tendency to remember only the big, upset wins against good teams and forget the losses that make you go "Huh?" Freeze had a bunch of those too. I suppose you could make an argument that he'd be less likely to drop games that he should win if he was at a more-resource rich program. Regardless, a noticeable chunk of his reputation has been built on the outcome of just 2 games; those 2 wins over Saban.
Also, as good as his teams were by Ole Miss standards, I question the player development to a certain extent. He did well with QBs which we sorely need, but look at cases like D.K. Metcalf and Dawson Knox. Why didn't we see more production from those guys in college? Metcalf in particular is a physical freak and borderline un-coverable, but he had a very pedestrian college career and was drafted almost purely based on his insane combine performance. If Butch drove us crazy with Alvin Kamara, get ready for some more of that with Freeze.
Having said all that, I still think he's a good option despite those things. He isn't a surefire home run hire like some believe, but I'd still hire him.
That also has a downside. If he had trouble handling the microscope in Oxford, imagine how it'd be in Knoxville. He frequently searched for his name on Twitter and would respond to/DM random, anonymous people who tweeted stuff at him. He’s actively campaigning FOR this job. Can’t see the minus on this one.
It's sad, but Fulmer hates Freeze. Tennessee will only hire Freeze if the decision is taken out of Fulmer's hands, but I don't think the Haslams would hire Freeze either. They want a coach who would be loyal to them only and who they could control. One of the important criteria Fulmet mentioned during the last “search” was getting someone who truly wanted to be at UT.
Some want more. Chris Peterson was lured away eventually. If that can happen, anything’s possible.I mean...he makes almost $2m living in his hometown of Boise, coaching for his alma mater. And he's really good there. I don't know why he'd want to come cross country to participate in this s**tshow, even if he if buddies with one of Fulmer's buddies.

To be fair, Freeze only had Metcalf for his true freshman year. Metcalf played in 2 games, hurt his foot, and was out for the year. Matt Luke had both Metcalf and AJ Brown, but Metcalf still couldn't stay healthy. He had two years with Knox, but Knox redshirted his first year.
Laquon Treadwell was good in college but has ended up being a bust in the NFL. Ndkemdiche hasn't done anything either.
Didn’t affect him in Oxford...bad decisions did. I can handle a winner who tweets too much. Never see Pruitt tweet...how’s that working? That also has a downside. I believe that a lot of what he was able to accomplish was with the players he got, and he got them as we know with brazen cheating. I've got family in the OM admin...the stories they won't tell publicly are insane. Point is, there is NO chance he gets away with any of that again, you may think the NCAA is more toothless than ever (I'd agree) but Sankey will be watching him like a hawk if he's in the SEC.Outside of the fact that it’s been made known that he’s not an option, nothing.
