Im sure the talk and rumors don’t help. But there’s also some pretty obvious downfalls that can’t be ignored. Lack of development on both sides of the ball, inexcusable losses, assistant turnover to name a few. Best believe they’re hearing all of that from opposing coaches more than anyone.Or maybe they just hear all the talk of him being fired and don’t want to come not knowing who the coach is.
I know it’s difficult when we’re frustrated and only see things one way, but there is more than one way of looking at this.
Gus is about the only other one I can think of. The list should be short my friend. I get these smaller name coaches may work themselves into bigger/better resume in 5+ years but based on our last 3 hires UT shouldn’t be paying someone’s first HC rodeo in the SEC, regardless of what asst/coordinator positions they’ve held and where. Proven P5 HC that has beaten one of the big 3 or someone from the NFL (not named O’Brien or Marrone).Besides Freeze who else would be on the table that has those accomplishments? Fulmer?
I guess I don't exactly fall into that category because I would hire Freeze, but...For those that don't want Freeze for football reasons... Outside of weird personality/cheating/past mistakes. What is he lacking as a "football coach" in your mind?
I am so sick of coaching staffs that recruit well and don't develop the talent that at this point I'd take a staff of bad recruiters but who got every last ounce of talent out of them, plus a little bit more.

Like other coaches in his position, people have a tendency to remember only the big, upset wins against good teams and forget the losses that make you go "Huh?" Freeze had a bunch of those too. I suppose you could make an argument that he'd be less likely to drop games that he should win if he was at a more-resource rich program. Regardless, a noticeable chunk of his reputation has been built on the outcome of just 2 games; those 2 wins over Saban.
Also, as good as his teams were by Ole Miss standards, I question the player development to a certain extent. He did well with QBs which we sorely need, but look at cases like D.K. Metcalf and Dawson Knox. Why didn't we see more production from those guys in college? Metcalf in particular is a physical freak and borderline un-coverable, but he had a very pedestrian college career and was drafted almost purely based on his insane combine performance. If Butch drove us crazy with Alvin Kamara, get ready for some more of that with Freeze.
Having said all that, I still think he's a good option despite those things. He isn't a surefire home run hire like some believe, but I'd still hire him.
Another good one.Media should honestly just start probing Pruitt to get some hilarious responses, specifically based on his prior comments.
"Jeremy, you'd say a coach will be measured based on FL/GA/Bama results. How do you think about your 0-9 performance?"
"Jeremy, do you think losing multiple high star recruits to GA is tenable for long term success here?"
"Jeremy, being a defensive guy yourself, does it make it harder to win when opponents routinely score 30+ ppg?"
