He acted like this to six-figure donors his first year here. He is what he's always been. All those things people hate about him now have always been there. He can't juggle the many demands of the HC job, he isn't a great face of the program, he doesn't like fundraising or community events, he isn't great at personnel management, he's terrible at PR, he desperately needs delegation skills and he would be well-served to surround himself with the best people he can get and trust them do their jobs. Yet the players like him. Really like him. And so do the recruits.

All of this is the same in year 3 as in year 1. People are just over-the-top now at what's been there all along. And the red flags were there before he was hired.
So he hates all PR & fundraisers & rubbing elbows & all the “non coaching” things that go along with a high profile job but let’s be honest he’s below average at getting results on the field. It’s one thing to be likable by players & recruits but if you can’t deletion them into winners why are we keeping him? It’s only gonna cost more money in the long run

Pruitt is the main reason the Big Orange Caravan went the way of the dodo bird. Although I heard Barnes wasn't a fan of it either.

The only way Vandy wins is if the boys on the team just dont care anymore. The talent gap between the two teams is too wide for Pruitt or any of the other coaches to screw it up. No reason to root for the boys in black. Let's just enjoy the first win since October 2nd.

So really that's on Fulmer and the powers to be. I know it was crazy at that time but it seems now it was a desperate hire by Fulmer. Fulmer has also got to be feeling the pressure right now cause all eyes are on him now..
Exactly and the crazy thing is, I believe most of the fan base understands this was the best Fulmer could do in that situation. Which is why its best to make a change this year, with a full search and Fulmer at the helm the fan base would be more patient then holding on one more year and having to sit through an awful season next year.

He is exactly Gene Chizik. What he was at Ole Miss is what he really is. A loud mouth jackass who knows how to recruit. Nothing more.
He did grow up a little bit from his Ole Miss days. Ole Miss Coach O would have never hired someone like Joe Brady to run his offense; he self-admittedly in those days thought he knew everything and didn't give up control. Whether it was purely dumb luck (probably) or it is actually something he gave thought to, he deserves credit for going out and getting a guy who totally remade their offense into a juggernaut, even if it was just for one season.

It looked bad after they won the title, but I totally see why USC didn't think he was HC material. Plus he would have been a terrible cultural fit there.

I don't get this eruption of vitriol. Nothing has changed this week. UT has been staying the course all along, with no intention of doing anything else. Opt-outs are negligible. The recruiting class is amazingly intact. The guys we need to stick are sticking. Most of our top recruits, including Salter, still plan on signing early. Brooks is still solid. Staying the course and focusing on playing and recruiting is exactly what stable, unemotional leadership should do right now.

Losing to Vandy would do more harm than good. And actually wanting to lose to Vandy and posting it on a message board that recruits read...
We lost two of our best commits....

This fanbase has been truly excited by three coaches in the last 15 years: Pearl, Kiffin and Butch. All three were snake-oil salesmen. This job needs that type of person at the head.

At the end of the day, Pruitt is a Bammer. And that makes all of this 1000x’s worst. At least it does for me. It’s like that parable of the snake that asked the little boy for lift down the mountain. The little boy said no because he was afraid he’d bite him. The snake promised he wouldn’t and reluctantly, the boy carried him down the mountain. Once at the bottom at the moment he sat him down, the snake turned and bit him. In shock and panic the boy lashed out and swore at the snake! He said, “You promised you wouldn’t bite me if I took you to the bottom!” The snake grinned and replied, “you knew what I was when you picked me up.”
That’s Pruitt. No matter what, see down, he’s still a Bammer and that makes all of this that much worst.

He will tap dance his way to Tuscaloosa when he gets fired. And ultimately, he will sleep soundly at night knowing that even though he failed, it was at the expense of a program he grew up hating and was extremely reluctant to embrace.

Splash some cold water on your face maybe? 😷 Up is down and down is up? A Vandy win extends it.
Oh, it put's it out of it's misery. There is no possible way any school but Tennessee at this point could try harder at consistently failing.

This Haslams stuff has become urban legend. There is no nefarious voting block of "Haslams." There's Big Jim, who's elderly with health issues that have bumped UT down his priority list. There's Bill, who's not even a UT alum, and is into politics more than UT. There's Jimmy, who's channeling his energy elsewhere. There's Dee, who's running multiple businesses. And the younger generation is doing other things in other places.

The Haslams are focused more on UT academics these days. Jimmy and Dee are building their legacy in business and communications.

Chadwell, one of the hottest names in the coaching carousel, surely is not going to choose vandy. Idk if he’ll succeed at a big program but I know that Vandy is a career killer for coaches.
If he was that hot he’d have better options than Vanderbilt.

If they keep Pruitt, 2021 will be the worst (non-pandemic) attendance percentage in UT history. I am not being hyperbolic or purposely dramatic by saying this fanbase is as checked-out as I've ever seen it. I'm in my late 20's and they're losing my generation. Very few younger than me care about the program at all. To them we're a basketball school.

Add in the fact COVID may still be lingering in 2021 (post-vaccine) resulting in the older folks being advised to stay home, and a putrid home schedule with no marquee non-conference game and Florida and Alabama on the road, and they are going to be hurt bad financially by letting Pruitt limp to the finish line.

If keeping Pruitt is about money, be careful what you wish for.

Next year will be the Lowest attendance numbers Anywhere across the country imo.

Many people have learned that sports just aren’t as important as they used to be.

And Many others will avoid large crowds forever after this.

I think sports attendance will never recover anywhere back to the same level it was a decade ago. Attendance numbers were already going down Nationwide before this mess

dunno, that interview sounded pretty convincing, and their player personnel director started following vandy and all 3 of their recruits on twitter....

Isn't this a major sticking point with athletics right now? Big Jim wanted to de-emphasize athletics (i.e., being primarily a football school) and mold UT into a UVA-style school?
