A competent QB and a consistent pass rush would make this team look completely different.
Pass pro would still suck.

Pass defense would still suck.

We'd look competent, but not completely different. Issues are far more glaring. Let's not cover our eyes to the deeper issues - lack of development, lack of coaches that want to be here with Pruitt and are successful, lack of HCing, lack of an offensive scheme.

It may be true, but it was also leaked from the South Carolina boards that he didn't have interest in them so I dont see why he would at Vandy
SC is a mess administratively. Many sitting HC turned them down. Beamer was there safety net.

I’m ready for someone besides Chaney. When I watch a game I feel like the plays are being called haphazardly - no sense of identity, no setting them up for later in the game, no mid game adjustments. Not much creativity. I also hold him responsible for the whole offense - qb situation included. I read he didn’t want to coach positions but the OC might need to spend time with the QB - help them understand what the big picture. Certainly some high flying new guy would be fine but I would take BoBo if it came to that - could solve offense and qb situation. I think we have much better players than SC - would expect better numbers than they had.

I honestly think they're scripted, most of them. I understand it's pretty common to script the first several plays to set the tone for your game plan. However, I agree that it doesn't look like we set anything up. It's not always what you call, it's when you call it.

If Freeze (or anybody) was able to come here and put up records like that against those coaches, I'd take the random, inexplicable loss to Kentucky. Because if Freeze brought his Ole Miss track record to Knoxville, those would happen too.

This is true. Its also the same argument everybody made against Dan Mehlan.

His ceiling is higher here than at Ole Miss imo. We at least know with Freeze we would beat somebody we weren't supposed to every so often. He would create some great Vol wins and memories again. I want my son to be a Vols fan. Gonna have to give him more than tales of the past from my own childhood for that to happen.

Clemson hasn't been soft for 10 years. They punished Ohio St in that 31-0 game a few years ago. They've made OU quit a couple of times in the playoffs. They physically dominated Bama in that Championship game two years ago with their DL.
I’m just angry. You’re right.

If we’re keeping Pruitt, and it looks like we are, the only hope is for him to take the Pittman approach. Go out and overpay for a DC and OC, and then back off and let them do their jobs. Get rid of Weinke and Friend, let the OC who isn’t stuck in 1990 pick his OL coach and let him coach QB’s. At this point it’s his only hope. It won’t work, but if we’re keeping him, it is what it is.
100% agree on OC

100% disagree on DC. This is completely Pruitt's defense and always will be. If Ansley is sucking, then that is Pruitt sucking. They apparently can finish each others' sentences when it comes to football.

Word from Bob_Vols is our defensive scheme is the most complex in the SEC. We need veteran dudes with lots of practice to run it right. There's no dumbing it down. Exactly why we are missing DT, Bituli, and Warrior more than expected. Said our bad plays are where guys are literally out of position.

What Bob said is concerning, Our secondary, Linebackers, and half the D line has at least one year in the system right now, with a few having more. Sounds like Pruitt cant translate his defense, aka cant coach

Our offensive scheme is supposedly also very complex.

I think it would serve us best to dumb things down a bit. Add in more complex philosophies once we have grasped the simplistic ones. We’re simply out of position too often on D and we’ve seen how the offensive scheme ties our hands at QB.

Stop with this nonsense. Most of those Clemson kids are silver spoon in the mouth got everything given to them and told how wonderful they are. They’re softer than a pillow and so is that whole conference. Bama is a nonstop train so that’s a no brainer. Georgia players are sold a fake bill of goods and yet they still can’t win titles. We’re bad no doubt but don’t sit there and act like there’s a bunch of alpha apes on those teams. Minus Bama. They get a pass.
Coastal Carolina has more alphas than we do. Florida has alphas. Maybe we have some but for whatever reason they’re not inspired. We play with no passion and the guys don’t play for each other.

Brenton Cox punked HB twice and none of our players went over to stick up for him. Pruitt has failed to instill a culture here and our players show it

Agree about the Cox deal. They didn’t even help HB off the ground. Very telling.

Anybody have one of these I can buy/borrow? I’d really like to be an insider. I can hop back and forth in literally no time at all and tell you guys what’s going to happen.

Unless it’s bad news. Then I’ll just hop back before this conversation takes place so you won’t know I ever left.View attachment 328556
Yes I’ve got one, not exactly like this but I just got done with it. So does anyone want to go back to the 90’s with me around Labor Day? Also @Big Gucci Sosa I went into the future a few years and your account is still slow???

Then simplify the damn thing. Let playmakers make plays. Need to spend less time thinking and more time playing.

His hs stats
Wasn't he very raw out of HS and hadn't grown up playing QB?

Just talking college career. He has 1 INT in 42 attempts. Granted, a small sample size, but that ratio leads all our recent backup QBs - him, Maurer (16:1), Bailey (22:1).

Imo a QB is innocent until proven guilty. He has protected the ball fairly well in college, so far.

I'd generally agree, but that is what Bob_Vols was saying - you really can't. It's what makes it good. If you simplify it, then it's just an average scheme and takes away the possible advantage. This is just the worst possible preseason, along with losing your 3 best defenders, for this kind of scheme.

I can’t get past the fact he threw nearly 30 picks his senior year

Yeah, you can. And it doesn't make it average. Georgia runs a relatively simple scheme. Dave Aranda ran a simple one at LSU, etc. etc. Whatever perceived "possible advantage" ain't there.
