It wasn't pretty, but they were wins. Remember, in the preceding years were were losing those kinds of games...there was incremental improvement that we hoped would continue. Since then, we've gone in reverse. It doesn't mean that the winning streak was garbage, but it does mean that our trajectory is going in the wrong direction again.I dont think anyone was expecting the amount of regression, but the win streak was hyped too much. It was a bunch of bad teams....and they were struggles. Those games were hard to watch for the most part. The Indiana, Missouri, and UK games were brutal...Vandy was too. We still didn't look good at all pulling those out.
winning is winning and for a team that lost to GSU and BYU early, it's not like we were competing at a championship level and we played down to those teams....I dont think anyone was expecting the amount of regression, but the win streak was hyped too much. It was a bunch of bad teams....and they were struggles. Those games were hard to watch for the most part. The Indiana, Missouri, and UK games were brutal...Vandy was too. Guys in here keep saying "3-7", but if we had just kept our schedule before COVID beating USCjr, MIZZU, Vandy and then the three OOC scrubs, we would have had 6 wins and a bowl game. Not great but likely not prompting a termination at HC either.
I think this will be part of the University's thinking when they retain CJP.
After losing to BYU and GA St last year I don't understand how the program didn't consider it a possibility, while I didn't think it probable it wasn't out of the question.I don't know a single person who expected UT to lose to ARK and get blown out by UK in Neyland. If you foresaw those, you must do very well in Vegas.
Before the season I saw a schedule where we should win 6 or 7. If we did worse than that then Pruitt is not the guy. Im not going to sit here and say I predicted those losses, but I cant say I'm surprised one bit by them.I don't know a single person who expected UT to lose to ARK and get blown out by UK in Neyland. yeah, it's not exactly apples to apples cause of that, but the question was thin ice...and he was on it. they moved on from Steele after that and went for the big name in Venebles and very shortly afterward, took off to what they are now. he had just gone 6-7 two years prior to that i think...so he was still very much a question mark in many clemson fans' minds.I remeber him being on the hot seat going into year 3. But he won the conference in year 3.
Losing to vandy in year 1 started it for me
Ga State was the first time I thought he wasn't the guy
BYU moved it to 99%
Ky this year solidified it.
Thank you for posting this. I am stunned there are so many people acting like cucks on this board wanting him back.I still blame Kiffin, Hamilton, and Dooley for the past decade or so of miserable football. People forget he "redecorated" the UT Sports Complex. I don't ever want Lane Kiffin back at UT. View attachment 328552
didn't say they were. question was about being on thin ice..................siap, he was coming out of that bowl game against WVU. some viewed the venebles hire an act of desperation.Key difference though is that Dabo's Clemson teams were never this bad. His first staff overhaul came after a bad loss...in a BCS bowl.
Tennessee isn't in the same universe as a NY6 bowl team at this point.
You can only play the games on your schedule.Guys in here keep saying "3-7", but if we had just kept our schedule before COVID beating USCjr, MIZZU, Vandy and then the three OOC scrubs, we would have had 6 wins and a bowl game. Not great but likely not prompting a termination at HC either.

Yea, that was posted after I had posted that, but same goes for the dozens of others across the nation that are “opting out” when the season started going down hill.Well, except he's coming back next year. Apparently, he has been hurt most of the season and has been trying to push through it to help the team.
