Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

At least he's willing to gamble a bit. I guess I'd be more unhappy about those things if they failed in a year when practice was more what it should be.
I look at it as when you really suck, why not? Pruitt has nothing to lose because his coaching record is garbage.

I know, but there's an article floating around showing that Pruitt (before this game) was 15-15 and Johnny Majors was 14-15-1. Majors was a "proven" HC at the time he was hired. I'd be hard pressed to say that one inherited less than the other as far as team ability.

I have been impressed by his arm before in his limited action, but the knock on him is that he tries to complete passes that he should never throw. For example, the one and only pass that he threw in some game...Kentucky? He didn't do that tonight. He had a lot of INT's in high school.

Correct.

Guys...Shrout played against prevent defense , all nickel and dime with no pass rush. He does have a cannon...strongest arm on the team since he got here. He still threw a ball (complete) into bracket double coverage to Johnson, other than that, he took what they have him. Both TD passes were nice passes...but were against backups ... I like the kid but if he is in the mix to start with HB and Salter next season we are gonna struggle again.

HB looked good for a freshman starting his 1st game. Especially against UF because their D line is very good. Many times tonight HB got popped as soon as he could plant his back foot on a 3 step drop....Manning couldn't do any better when that happens. He didn't fumble either like JG does. Nor did he throw a pick in 20 something attempts. Good 1st game...he was sacked too much (OL) but HB had a couple of nice runs as well. His adrenaline had him overthrow 2 deep TD passes ....those adrenaline jitters will go away with more game time though.

The sad, terrible, unforgivable thing is that EVERYONE who has watched our team this year knows that with HB as a starter we could have beaten UK, Ark, and probably Barn as well. We would be 5 and 3. Pruitt may have let JG cost him his 1 and only chance to ever be a HC in the SEC. Chaney hasn't done him any favors either . Abandoned the run way too many times this season....often when we weren't fighting the clock or being badly beaten as well. If Chaney was part of keeping JG starter than he deserves to be fired this year, and likely will be.

Good grief. JG is so clearly the worst starting QB ever at UT....he is gonna retire Chaney, get ]Pruitt fired as well ...

I'm really waiting for Salter; we need a QB that can really run to keep defenses honest. Bailey did that better than JG, but there needs to be more of it with a hitter like Dobbs rather than a slider.

Seriously? Comparing 1977 team vs 2018 team?

Well I guess we have to give JP 9 years to win the conference.

I wondered if anybody else noticed the resemblance - Bailey and JG don't look anything alike with helmets off. But I had to do a double take to after seeing Bailey close up on the field and thinking at first it was JG.
I had the same reaction a couple of times. Their visage is weirdly similar from a certain angle with helmets on.

I’d be shocked if anyone is fired.

Fulmer doesn’t have it in him.

Johnny was a national championship winning coach when he was hired at Tennessee, not a gumbah illiterate dumbass fresh off of a high school coaching team 5 years earlier. Sorry, but I didn't like this guy when he was hired and after he won 8 in a row I doubted my wisdom, but he's shown now that he is clueless as a coach and needs to go.

Bailey I'm sure had pooped his pants today with so many minutes playing. I thought he had some good plays.
He just needs more playing time. Bailey is just a freshman. Shrout is a sophomore. Shrout did look good too.
I thought Bailey played really well under the circumstances. He was pretty accurate on the short/sideline passes but needs more work on his downfield throws. Overall I think it was a confidence builder for him.

Shrout played pretty well too; although he muffed a throw or two, he had a better outing than I've seen from him before.

Bailey over threw his receivers at times. I remember Peyton did the same when he first started in games.

Oh, some hazard from Harvard was skunked on beer playin' backyard bombardier
Yes and Scotland Yard was trying hard, they sent some dude with a calling card
He said, do what you like, but don't do it here

I think there was some first start jitters, maybe too much adrenaline on some of those long throws. First couple of series on running plays his handoffs and footwork showed he hasn't had much practice time with the first team offense either. He's got a good arm.

That female announcer at the start of the game said the TN team had not practiced in two weeks. Is that correct?
And that the team was out of sync because of no practice. QBs not getting the timing down & so forth...

I think some players were held out of practice due to covid concerns - pretty sure JG was one of them. But it's probably pretty hard having the whole offense or defense on the same page when you are continually missing bits and pieces. You'd think everybody else would have the same problem, but maybe it varies.

I had the sound muted so I missed those comments. But if they hadn’t practiced in 2 weeks that would explain some rust.

One thing I discovered yesterday is that my new TV only has optical and HDMI audio outputs, so my old Bose sound system is a non player, and it's severely lacking in any case. I have a lot of mid to high frequency hearing loss, and it was really hard to understand much of what the female announcer said - the guys were marginally better. Back at the other house I have an Onkyo receiver and Definitive Technology speakers - much much better - the speakers are fantastic. When that doesn't work I have another way - I have a unit designed for cars when you want to add amps and speakers and keep the head unit. I feed in speaker level inputs - left and right and mix some center output with both and run that to a two channel equalizer, a headphone preamp, and then the hearing aid control that does Bluetooth transmission to my hearing aids. I'm going to have to experiment here because it's normally just me, and I don't want the expense of replicating all that.

I have a desktop PC in my home office I mostly watch the games on, via FUBO TV streaming service; sometimes on my iPad as well. But I have a low tolerance for inane announcers and all the garbage ads, so I keep the sound off most of the time.
