Yea, but that could have easily been overcome with competent QB play along with having Bituli and Thompson. I get it. Shouldn’t have lost.

But, ran the ball only 13 times with Gray and Chandler...3 field goals...2 turnovers by the QB...4 sacks...2 turnover on downs. Ballgame.

You can just spout ultimatums all day, but at least dive deeper and look at the numbers. I said it should be a win for a program like UT. But the turnovers and lack of plays at QB were huge.

Fair enough. The team treated GA State like it was a scrimmage. The coaches simply didn’t have the team ready to play and it wasn’t even a trap game. It was the first game of the year, the team should have been fired up to play. The Oline should have blown them off the ball and ran at will. Gs State probably didn’t have one player that would play at UT. The defense was confused and had several blown coverages. I could not bring myself to rewatch this game, so this is just off of memory. I was thinking it would just be an isolated incident that the staff would learn from and then this season happened.

I wonder if Jimmy Johnson has any desire left to coach? Or maybe Tony Dungy....

If I’m not mistaken, Keyton’s departure means we have no contributor at WR in 2 whole recruiting classes now (sophomore/junior classes). Essentially, we have three solid seniors and a bunch of talented freshmen that aren’t seeing the field for whatever reason. This is one of the few position groups where I feel the youth excuse is valid. And if there was one group actually expected to take a step back this year, it was WR.

From the looks of it, we’ve got plenty of deficiencies on the coaching staff, but I don’t think Tee is one of them.

We then have a full offseason with spring and fall camp to develop our players. That 2020 class was loaded and they’ll have their first offseason.

We’ve already established that QB play elevates the team, so in the fall of 2021 either Bailey or a transfer plays really well for us. There’s only 3 unwinnable games, and TN goes 8-4. This shows enough improvement for Pruitt to land that loaded class in 2022. They finish top 10 in the recruiting rankings with Simpson heading up that class.

We then go into 2022 with a Junior HB, a Rfr Salter, freshman HB, that loaded 20’ class as juniors more hopeful than we are now. Maybe by then Pruitt has learned and is doing a better job. HB then hands the reins to Salter or Simpson who elevates the program even more

I think this is the path Fulmer envisions..

But I'll take it a step further... He needs to win a game that really matters. Soon. He won't get fired for 8-4.

But confidence and perception go way up if we can beat somebody that moves the meter.

I agree it wasn’t good, but we dominated the numbers. It showed how important Bituli and Thompson were, and it was Henry’s very first game. Ignont and Banks were the other LB’s, and they had little experience as well. Ignont left. Had nothing to do with effort.

JG made his usual decisions. Stared down the primary receiver, and I clearly recall he made the wrong read in a bunch formation at the goaline where we settled for a FG. I just want to see another QB to see what else we have.

And Peyton Manning could never lose to Memphis and FCS AppState could never beat Michigan. And ULMonroe could never beat Saban’s Bama team. Upsets happen

Barry Switzer once got takeout from Gus' and drove over to the old pay phone on Neyland drive. Placed a collect call to his then girlfriend, who later became his baby momma, and told her he was going to coach in the SEC some day. I think he would come here.

I do wonder if Bob Stoops is interested in coming back to coaching college. If serious, you could probably get him for 5 mil a yr. Stoops would bring instant name recognition and let everyone know UT is serious about winning.

Was he pushed out at OU cuz of Riley? I remember something being said about it.

As someone who was a die hard Cowboys fan growing up, no. I blame Jerry Jones for why I can no longer cheer for my childhood team, but feel very much like Switzer played a part in it.
