Winning with proven coaches is easier than hiring proven coaches. UT has tried to hire some of these top names people keep throwing out. At that level, guys want the right setup more than money, because they know they can get the money.
Fulmer wants to win. If he believes Freeze is a good enough option he will approve it. But Fulmer is not a one man show. We haven’t had a free AD since Dickey. Instead our Ads are forced or appease warring factions filled with idiots whose mouths are larger than their wallets which is saying something since more than one is a billionaire. UT will not be completely functional until our power players back off and let our ADs work without having to appease a million differing opinions. Bama finally did this when they allowed Moore the freedom and backing to go get Saban. Here's the rub, I have heard their is animus between them. Although it apears he greenlit Freeze as an OC hire back in 2019, but SEC nixed it. I don't believe all the powers that be would agree to hiring Freeze. So if Pruitt is canned, it could be a Napier, or Fuente, if he's fired. I think I'd rather hire Marrone than either of those guys.
I've got a sneaking suspicion that tommorow's game may be the last.
When the defense knows the offense is going to fold eventually, they tend to follow. 85 Bears defense were good but not the eventual juggernaut they ended up that season until Jim McMahon came off the bench in the 3rd game against Minnesota to lead a comeback. With an effective offense, they pinned their ears back and became a force of nature.I've said it for weeks, I want to see a full game without Jarrett Guarantano. I'm positive the offense will look better, the defense will play harder, and we'll see some fire out of Pruitt again. If I'm wrong and we still look hopeless then JP needs to be gone this year. Tomorrow is the most important game of his head coaching career, we'll see if he really wants to be at UT or not.
I want to see them do this:
Maxim 7: "Carry the fight to Florida and keep it there for 60 minutes".
We've not finished games because you know who makes mistakes every game.
Be much better than what we likely do. Three hires ago I’d not be a fan.honesty, considering the things the head coach needs to do, Cut would be a great hire. He would be the CEO, head figure that we need.
Hire a great DC and keep hands off.
Hire an OC that fits his philosophy and can keep up with the changing offensive dynamics.
Manage the coaches, the AD, the boosters and hire some ace recruiters and developmental coaches.
Game on.
If they, Sankey, are simply using TN as a whipping boy, I would say "ok, we'll play". Then at the last minute come up with some Covid cases.Yep... unless aTm needs/wants to play to bolster their playoff hopes. The SEC is flex-scheduling to help the top teams, and UT is allowing Sankey to make proxy decisions on UT's behalf. Sankey would like to move up and cancel games, instead of playing non-essential games on 12/19. UT's season could end any minute, due to COVID or cancellation... which is why Pruitt's job security doesn't depend on how the season plays out-- it depends on whether Boyd and Fulmer decide staying the course is no longer the right option based on multiple factors.
Hammy was cheap. Hart was cheap. Cheek was cheap. That's why some say UT is cheap, even now, when every single decision maker is different, top-down. This admin has given the program and coaches everything requested, but fans still say UT admin is "stupid," "cheap" and "incompetent." Randy Boyd is far from stupid, he certainly isn't cheap and no one who knows him or has worked with him calls him incompetent.
I have faith in Boyd to make the correct move even if some folks think its a COLD blooded business decision.Yep... unless aTm needs/wants to play to bolster their playoff hopes. If I'm a sophomore/ freshman and I've been on this Volunteer team the past 2 seasons and watched JG literally throw games away, then it would be hard for me to bust my butt every play, knowing this dude is going to eventually get us beat. I hate piling it on 1 player but when the crap hits the fan #2 is usually involved. When the defense knows the offense is going to fold eventually, they tend to follow. 85 Bears defense were good but not the eventual juggernaut they ended up that season until Jim McMahon came off the bench in the 3rd game against Minnesota to lead a comeback.
