I hope staff been working a Holiday wildcat package in practice this year because it would be a good time to break that out this week if we have it and want to throw Florida for a loop and give them some new looks that doesn’t put too much on Baileys shoulders
It's crazy to me that people still think a wildcat package is some innovative idea that defenses aren't prepared for. It's been in existence for how long now? 15 to 20 years?

anyone who has reasonable or normal expectations for this game or for HB in this game are going to be disappointed.
wouldn't reasonable expectations already be set at 'disappointment"?

The depth there can be misleading. If I’m not mistaken, Keyton’s departure means we have no contributor at WR in 2 whole recruiting classes now (sophomore/junior classes). Essentially, we have three solid seniors and a bunch of talented freshmen that aren’t seeing the field for whatever reason.

This one of the few position groups where I feel the youth excuse is valid. However, that is still an indictment of the coaching staff putting together two terrible WR recruiting classes back to back.
Perhaps it's also an indictment of the position coach - the guy that many people on here are trying to push for interim head coach.

Solid, and although he’d be down the list a bit for me, I could get pretty fired up about it. So you heard there was interest?
I doubt it from Fickell's side of things unless we're going to throw the bag at him.

He's probably the #1 candidate across the country. He and Matt Campbell are competing for that spot.

I think some of the thinking, from the person I talked to, was that Campbell is a much better fit at either Texas or Michigan than Fickell would be, thus leaving him without a landing spot. We could swoop in as the biggest job available.

Fickell turned down the Michigan State job at the last minute last season. They basically had a deal in place until he decided he didn't want to have to directly compete against Ohio State every year. That leads me to believe he can be had and that he wants out. Tennessee could also recruit the midwest where he'd feel comfortable.

I will promise you he could throw 3 picks and I won't be disappointed simply because he won't be a 5th year senior doing it. Just show some kind of pulse tomorrow and I will be happy.

If Fickell doesn't want to play OSU every year, why would he want to come here and play, Florida, Georgia and Bama every year? Unless he just likes a challenge.

Therein lies the rub. Nobody knows who that is. Finding the right fit with the right experience, having everyone agree he's the right fit with the right experience and convincing him UT is right for him is a very tall task.

If we could find the right puzzle piece and he was ready and willing to come, I think UT would pony up-- just like we did for Barnes. Finding the money isn't as hard as finding the right guy at a place like UT.
Not that hard really. Best Coach not coaching right now is Meyer. Everyone has a price. Pay the man. Hire a Google coach and get ready to pay buyouts for not only the HC but is 100 staff changes he allowed to make. Its that simple, and **** a fit. You win with proven coaches . Meyer is the best and if you wanna win at the top level, he's proven it. And everyone else stay out of his way.

all this. which is why my faith meter is stuck on zero.

The first name I heard when I asked around was Fickell - might be the opportune time to strike, if he's the guy.

A few agents handle all the big names. Like other power schools, UT talks to all of them. Fickell has preferred to stay in the Midwest, but the right positioning to win championships is probably the biggest driver. When UT kicks tires, the reason we're turned down generally isn't money-- not with this admin.

Why are they making it so difficult? People in power are so stupid I swear.

For experience, please use the following criteria:

- HC experience
- SUCCESSFUL experience (no Fuente)
- has proven he can beat Saban

As for fit, please use the following criteria:

- offensive minded (the game has evolved, get over it)
- exciting for fans
- will put up Ws in short order

Run those numbers and choose from that list.

Thanks,

All of VN

There's a serious opportunity here, if either Fickell or Campbell would take the job. Two high-level football coaches, but not only that, I've always thought Tennessee should zig to the midwest from a recruiting territory perspective. This brand can be sold in Ohio, Northern Kentucky, Illinois, etc. We should be the #1 SEC option up there.

And of course, you never take your foot off the pedal in-state, in Georgia and in Florida.

That sort of shortens the list quite a bit. 🤣

Winning with proven coaches is easier than hiring proven coaches. UT has tried to hire some of these top names people keep throwing out. At that level, guys want the right setup more than money, because they know they can get the money.
