Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2025-26

The thing I was impressed about with MSST last night was how comfortable the players looked with a brand new offensive scheme. It looked like second nature to them.

I doubt SC will have a game where Cooke and Henderson both shoot as poorly as they did tonight.

Yes, in that last game MsSt looked smooth — like a great team looks at the END of the season.

Kentucky scores the last 11 points to beat Kansas State 60-49.

Elzy must feel good that even though UK stunk and Rhyme played horrendously, they had other players step up. Dre'una Edwards is exactly what UK was missing, leading thr team with 16 pts and 12 rbds.

THIS... thank the basketball gods that we have Edwards for the next few years. She was tough and still managed a double-double against 6’7 and 6’6 post players tonight. I’ll take it. Rhyne Howard had an awful coming out party, but we know that won‘t last so I’m not worried.

I’ll bet they have quite a few of them as Cooke is a low percentage shooter thus far in her career. It was even worse tonight but she doesn’t shoot that much better on a normal night. If Henderson has an off night it’s more likely than not that they both will. Cooke has shown 0 improvement which surprises me for a Dawn Staley guard. Been a tough year and I’m sure they weren’t able to work together as much.

Any fear putting her back with all her old teammates might hold her back? First game so no sweat really, but it wasn’t pretty.

That’s a good point... it remains to be seen, but that could be something to look for looking forward. I‘m just gonna hope that it was 1st game rust and nothing more lol I’m giving everyone that pass this season

Dawn post game presser:
- "I could be blindfolded with defense and shoot better than 10%" which the Gamecocks did in the second quarter
- "We set basketball back a couple years."
- Elissa Cunane vs. Aliyah Boston "didn't live up to the hype."

Ole Miss is looking MUCH improved... I believe someone mentioned that recently. Shakira Austin and their freshman Collins along with the Donnetta Johnson girl... lookout, they are definitely gonna get some teams in the SEC

That’s what I think too. They’ll still end up in the bottom half this season I predict. If teams don’t show up to play they’re gonna shock some people though. Their defense is markedly improved. Haven’t seen an Ole Miss team play that hard since Armintie was playing.

You're right, I'm watching the game, they are much improved. They will give a lot of SEC teams trouble this year.

Mimi Reid also hasn’t played for them yet this season, and she’s a very solid player as well. She briefly left the team but later returned. She’s a good passer, averaged 4 assists per game last season. Will have a lot better options to pass to this year.

Grissett will play point this year along with the other wing positions but she’s going to see a lot of time at the 1 this year.
After watching the South Carolina loss, there is no way Grissett played either guard position. It looked like to me she played mostly the 4 on offense. She is not only a poor outside shooter, she had no assists and was 0-4 from the FT line.

I beleive all the pre-season chatter from South Carolina fans that this team is just as good or even better than last year‘s team has been shown to be not true.

Harris would have gotten this team under control in this game and Both Harris and Harrington would have hit a few outside shots to open up the inside for a win over NCST.

You can never underestimate the loss of not only one team leader but two in how a team will perform when challenged.

"Open Looks" the cliche from coaches following a loss. NCState and SC had their opportunties and neither could shoot. I remember watching the famous UT - Va game where for the first three quarters UT was similar shooting 20% and behind about 14 until they got hot and won it.

amen,,,sounds like CHW revisited

nearly all of Aliya's shots were top of the key and Zia just flat out missed shots...SC was 4 for 11 on free throws,,how much more of an open look can you get?

20 of 74 overall and 2 for 12 on 3's

Just a horrendous shooting day
I hope they mirror this when they play us

hope they do as well lol I dont feel so bad now about how the Lady Vols played on Tuesday...if the #1 and #8 ranked teams can play so horribly imma give the Lady Vols some slack when we dont have a great shooting night

You need a mixture of shooters and athletes. With Holly we got way to much into the athletes and not the shooters. Were going back the other way now and there will be a day in the future when we'll have a roster that will shoot 75 percent from the foul line every game. Were adding three players next year that are around 80 percent and above from the line. Miles has work to do there but losing games at the free throw line isn't a great feeling.

We’re going to have to play defense like NC State if we hope to have the same result. They played a very solid game on the defensive end. Really good team defense, they were a unit. Busted it back in transition and got set and forced SC to play over them. Really executed the game plan as a group. They packed it in the paint from the tip and it paid off. SC is going to see the same strategy a lot now until their guards start keeping the defense honest. SC didn’t shoot well but that did have a lot to do with NC States defense. Didn’t appreciate that Dawn basically negated their win in her presser. Her team didn’t show up. Plain and simple. If NC State had Boyd it likely would have been a 15-20 point defeat for SC.

Carolyn Peck was actually right on the money for a change. SC’s offensive spacing was terrible. The further NC state packed in the paint the smaller their offense got. Instead of spreading it out and getting better perimeter looks they forced a bunch of tough shots.

Henderson is very talented but she seemed to struggled with NC State’s size. She is listed at 5’7” but I don’t believe it for a minute. She looks 5’3” on a good day to me. Perez is listed at 5’4” and she plays bigger than Henderson. Once Raina settles into Wes Moore’s offense she’s going to light it up. She made a lot of really good decisions last night. She’s capable of dropping 30 even 40 if she gets hot.

PAC-12 play kicks off tonight. Stanford’s game was rescheduled.

#9 UCLA v. #7 Arizona should be a fun game to watch. Onyenwere and McDonald are two ticket selling players.

Oregon and Colorado will also be a decent game I think. Oregon likely wins by 20+ but Colorado has a solid veteran squad this season compared to Oregon’s youth. Could be closer if Oregon’s posts get into foul trouble. Mya Hollingshed is a fun player to watch, her game is very similar to Rennia.

Treasure Hunt only played three minutes in Kentucky’s 60-49 win over Kansas State. Kansas State was without their All-American center, Ayoka Lee, for all but the first quarter.

Rhyne Howard was just 3-14 and 0-7 from three.

I’ll be interested to see the SEC All-Freshman team at the end of the season.

Marta Suarez, Madison Hayes, and Madison Scott are probably among early favorites. As expected, not a great 2020 class in the SEC.
