Why dont fans support this program no matter how bad the times get?

I mean I’m not sure how many are actually fair weather fans as you put it. I think most that have taken time to find their way to a message board about our Vols are pretty loyal. Some might get angry and say they are done but it’s just said out of anger. They are right back the next day. There’s plenty of pessimistic fans and negative fans and rightfully so at this point. I have no where near the excitement for football games as I used too. Yet, I still spent money on tickets this year only to watch Kentucky stomp us. Only bright side I guess was I managed to start a family tradition. My father was at the prior game that Kentucky beat us in Knoxville and I was at this one! Not sure my child will have to wait until his late 20s like me to see Kentucky beat us at home though...

Why do so many fans have to be fair weather fans and only support a program when they are winning? I think if you are a VFL you will support this team and program no matter how many games they win.
Wow.....you've been in a coma for the past 10 years???? Glad you are recovering.

Dude, if there are any “bandwagon” fans left around these parts they are truly terrible at it. If you’re still wearing Tennessee orange on Saturday’s you’re a real fan regardless of how critical you are of the program.

Ridiculous to think that anyone accepts and wants to stay mediocre and I doubt there is a single fan on here that feels that way. I've never heard a single person on here claim that so I call BS on you saying it's happening.
Every time you spend money on it, you say it. Sign up for an economics class and it will make more sense to you.

There's no bandwagon, there are only die hards left. Burn those bridges and you're left with a Vandy fanbase. No offense but this is about as myopic a post as I've seen here. We're here complaining because we care, what you really need to worry, and think about, is what happens when enough people stop caring....... And what that means.

Any supposed "fairweather" Tennessee fan would have long since abandoned hope. We happen to be the hardiest, most long-suffering, potentially deluded bunch in all of college football. Nega-Vol and Sunshine Pumper alike all have hope for a better day...we just disagree on how we get there. We are the Yin and Yang of Tennessee Football. The Republicans and Democrats. We need each other.

And occasionally we get a SUPERFAN like PVF, and the Universe gets all out of balance.
You're labeled a NegaVol too, it's not hard to spot you guys.

You know what the sad part is, I'm 99% sure the OP was trolling to have fun but pulaski took it hook, line and sinker. Pretty sure you made him cry, maybe send a Christmas card?

If we rehired Dooley Pulaski would be here telling us how great the hire was, it's all a master plan and it's not his fault we're getting our doors blown off by KY.

So lets try this. Let's say that Pruitt is a dandruff shampoo and that Kentucky, Arkansas, Georgia State and BYU are all dandruff.

You go to the store and buy Pruitt dandruff shampoo and it still does not beat dandruff very often, are you going to continue to buy Pruitt dandruff shampoo?

Some people will, as they really like the TV commercials and will continue to buy the product that is just not working well, but others are going to say "hey, that's not working" and switch to another shampoo (coach).

Let's be honest, what teams were involved in the 8 game winning streak and how many of those teams have now fired their coach (SC 2 games, Miss St 1 game, Vandy 1game, Missouri 1 game), that means that in those 8 wins more than 1/2 the coaches were fired (counting Muschamp twice).

Please tell me where I'm wrong about the 8 game winning streak and how many of those coaches are still coaching that team.

Also let me know which of these 8 teams are teams that Tennessee should not beat almost every time we play them.

TN football economics have been top 10 for the last 40 years so I don't need an economic class for it to make sense. As a matter of fact, I'd love for all the NegaVols to move on somewhere else and let's just see how much it impacts us economically. I doubt it would even make a dent.

Because the program has been continuously bad over the last decade and it's getting old

That's because "negavols" is fake news. A myth. They aren't real.

I tell you what hasn't worked in awhile, ever since the advent of the internet our NegaVol attitude of always attacking coaches and players is not working! Social media has fractured our fanbase and all the NegaVols negativity has accomplished absolutely squat. Go back and watch some of Saban's early press conferences at Bama when he basically told the negative faction of their fanbase to go to he!!, that the team simply didn't need them around to be successful. I think it's long past time for our AD, head coach, administration and VFL fans to tell the NegaVols to move on, their way of moaning, groaning and acting like 5th grade children is doing absolutely nothing to help the program. It worked at Bama, it worked in the movie Hoosiers during the team introductions to the school and I think it's time we try it. Go find a new hobby NegaVols.
🤣😂🤣 You're quite ridiculous..

You want to know what works at bama? Saban actually being a great coach, not telling off the fan base... 🤣

The only reason the bama fans put up with him is because he's so damn good at his job...

No negative speech. No dissenting opinion. Get in line, or else.... Siund familiar?

I am not aware of any fans that I know that have abandoned the Vols because they suck right now. I'm still a fan. Fans will criticize teams when they are down, because they care. "Fair weather" fans wouldn't even be on this board, they would be on Bama or Clemson boards.

Did you go back and listen to the press conferences. Pull up the time on Finebaum he told all the negative fanbase to f=$& off. You obviously don't think that fans being negative jerks matter, probably means that you like folks that are chuckle heads. You're on here just to antagonize folks for kicks anyway so why would you care what some fan thinks of our NegaVol fanbase.

Anyone who identifies as Tennessee fan after the last decade can by no stretch of the imagination be lableled fairweather. There are two camps of Vols,
the NegaVols and the OptiVols. I think you are mistaking the NegaVols for fairweather.
Oh... I'd say there are a couple more groups.

One are simply hopeful realists. I hope... but I don't close my eyes like supposed "positive" fans do. I also do not assume the worst or make concrete predictions of doom like the few truly "negative" people here do. I hope for and want the best... but understand that some things are more reasonable objects of hope than others.

Take Pulaski for example. He still doesn't want to admit that we were right about JG's inabilities. The fact that we wouldn't let him "be right" makes us "Negavols".

I started this season saying that UT could be a very good team with MUCH better QB play. So I was "positive" about the D, OL, WR's, TE's, RB's, and kickers. I had a lot positive and very little negative to say about those groups or players in those groups. The D has been a disappointment. I think some of that relates back to the anemic O and QB play but they have not been good. No way to sugar coat what they've looked like at times. They could have "set the tone" for the team even without a good O. At times it seemed the were close to doing so. But opponents found some weaknesses that just haven't been resolved.

I believe fully that most of what's wrong with the O starts with the QB. What he cannot do allows D's to focus their defense on other things UT tries to do especially the run game. I still think UT's OL could have been one of the better OL's in the country. I still like UT's RB's. I love the young receivers and was really excited about Hyatt before the season. I like what Fant is doing.

But Pulaski was a JG groupie... he had a cult like blindness to the guy's lack of effectiveness. So anyone who won't agree with him on JG is automatically a "Negavol" and "NeverJGer". Two pretty stupid labels tbh.

Maybe you should come up with a quality take of our football program to debate rather than the same old simple 5th grade thoughts many of us had decades ago when we were in the 5th grade.

Ok, here's a quality take in no particular order.

  1. We've had 5 straight double digit losses. Florida will be our 6th and Texas A&M will be our 7th. Vandy isn't an automatic win.
  2. One of those double digit losses was to a Kentucky...at home.
  3. Georgia State loss
  4. Offense has regressed
  5. Defense has regressed
  6. Top recruits are starting to de commit
  7. Tension on the coaching staff over pay cuts

I don't know of any fans who only support the Vols when they are winning, because we haven't had a chance for bandwagon fans in the last 13 years.

All valid points except for your sports predictions as we've no idea what will happen the rest of the way, why play the games when all we have to do is predict who wins? I don't think anyone is happy with the truths you stated, I'm certainly not.

I think it's more of not wanting to support a team who's coaches and AD doesn't care about winning. I'd be much happier with losses if the players had grit, didn't look lost on the field, and we didn't lose by double digits every week. It's blatantly obvious that Pruitt and some assistants are inept. Just because some of us point this out, does not mean we're not VFL's and don't support the program. Is it not concerning to you, as a fan to have witnessed TN as a dumpster fire for the last 15yrs or that we're looking at a 3-7(at most) season?
