Yep. Every coach, good and bad, has staffs populated with buddies/guys they worked with previously/guys they know. A lot of people here blame Butch and Pruitt for doing that, but there isn't anything wrong with that per se. I mean, if I was building a team around me I'd call on people I knew too. I think most people would.

It's all in who you ultimately pick; just because a coach picks a "buddy" doesn't automatically mean it's a bad hire. Our coaches just happen to load their staffs with people who they know, but who are also bad coaches.
Right, it's not that part of it that's interesting to me. It's that they have so many Clemson alums on campus. I'd love to hear Dabo explain if he did that by design.

I've always felt we should go in this direction, but understand why we haven't to this point. Too much turnover and too many different styles and egos.

I think Dabo is the opposite of someone like Saban in that he likes having guys on staff who are likely to stay several years. If you're an alum of the school, he probably figures you're more likely to stay - it's probably entirely by design. Even his highly-sought after coordinators have been there for several years. Venables reportedly says no to multiple HC offers each offseason. Players who have been recruited by both Clemson and Bama or who have coached at Clemson and Bama have talked about how Clemson is a "family environment" while Bama is a corporate-feeling football factory where everybody is a number.

Look at the tenures of most of his guys...that's basically unheard of in modern CFB.

Alright, I’ve tried these “jogger pants” all you cool kids are wearing. I’ve given them an honest shot and have one question.

Why on earth would one choose to have cold ankles exposed to the elements?
The khaki joggers? Do adults wear those?

Excuse me, wtf that got to do with Rick Barnes and Tom Herman?

It feels like I've seen someone say something along lines of "Last coach we got from Texas worked out" at least a dozen times in the past few days.

Still...what does that have to do with Butch's boys being small and weak? lol

Pruitt: Harrison Bailey 'Will Definitely Play' Against Florida

“Pruitt added about Bailey's opportunities this season, " I feel like the three games that he's played in, obviously, the situations were probably favorable to him at the time based off the score, but I thought he handled himself really well. He continues to improve.”

THATS DEFINITELY A TYPO..HAS TO BE👀😅😂😂

Kind of related to the direction we're going...curious to get other's thoughts on this.

IMO, there are 4 pre-eminent programs in the country right now. I think they are Alabama, Clemson, Ohio St, and Oklahoma. They have been the most consistent programs for the longest period of time in the recent past.

There are different approaches that you can take to running a program. You can be corporate, buttoned-up, and formal, like Alabama/Saban. You can be a more informal "family environment" like Clemson/Dabo. I don't know enough about Ohio St/Day and Oklahoma/Riley to describe their programs, although the impression that I get is that they are probably closer to Clemson/Dabo than Alabama/Saban.

The question is...what is Tennessee trying to be? Like Alabama/Saban? If so, that environment seems very difficult to replicate if you don't have some previous success to point to. Are 17-18 year old kids naturally drawn to a corporate, formal environment? Well, I suppose so if that program has won 5 national titles since 2009. But what if you haven't? What if you're trying to build a reputation/culture from scratch? Isn't a different approach needed?

Ok it’s time for Phil to make his statement.

I’ll help you coach fulmer. This is what you need to say

“Coach Jeremy Pruitt is the man to lead our program in the future. 2020 has been a very challenging year for everyone and while we aren’t happy with the results on the field we know that Coach Pruitt dealt with many obstacles that has hindered the performance of this program. Many of the obstacles were simply Harder to overcome than the rest of the SEC had to deal with and I know without a shadow of a doubt that Jeremy is the man to lead us into better times. He’s showed us what he is capable of doing leading this program to the nations longest winning streak and we know he will do even bigger things in the future. Thanks for your support and let’s get behind this program! Go Vols!”

If Fulmer is going to keep bama Jeremy like I am nearly certain will be the case he must be a halt to the speculation and now!

Here you go @SpringBokVol I already wrote it for him

Let me clarify, Phil will publicly back and commit to Pruitt after the UF game.

Phil will put a statement on Pruitt after the UF game.

If it's a vote of confidence for Pruitt, that's going to be a tough sell after Florida likely hands us our 6th straight double digit loss with a probable 7th still to come. I can't wait to hear the verbal gymnastics that will be required to pull that off.

I think you also have to consider that these Texas staffs are just really bad at development. Take Garrett Gilbert for example; he was the highest-rated of any of those guys you mentioned. Total bust at Texas. Do you think he would have been a bust no matter where he committed? Is it just a coincidence/bad luck that Texas signs all these busts, while other schools get the good QBs?

It seems totally plausible that if Gilbert, Swoopes, or these other guys went other places they might have had more success, and if Manziel, Mayfield, etc. went to Texas they might not have been very good. If memory serves, Texas didn't even really recruit Manziel - it's just bad talent evaluation.

I think your second paragraph about talent evaluation is most likely the problem. Gilbert was recruited and then transferred under Mack Brown, whose staffs had developed Applewhite, Sims, McCoy, and Vince Young before him. They had a track record. The takes after Gilbert though were mediocre except maybe Connor Wood. Case McCoy and David Ash were not high level. Then, I would agree that Charlie Strong's staff probably didn't develop them. They took Swoopes and Heard as dual threat QB's, and it didn't work.
