i'm not sure how i feel yet about this, but im inclined to agree. i don't think we're particularly good up front, but not awful...and while i think the world of HT, we're a bit lacking elsewhere at MLB/ILB.....They're both pass rush OLB/DEs. Too bad we don't have the talent around them to play to their strengths.
I moved to Texas in 1995, from Tennessee, and I followed Texas football because they were the big dog in the state. From 2000 to 2009 they were great and they started their mediocre run after the 2009 season. Sound familiar Vol fans. Anyway, the best players in Texas would commit to Texas in their junior year of high school. They didn't even have to leave the state to recruit the best players every year. Since 2009 they've pretty much been just like Tennessee----trying to find their way back and the best players in Texas have plenty of options these days. They aren't jumping on the Texas bandwagon like they used to.My family is originally from Texas. There is a pecking order. The University of Texas, for the most part, will get who they want. There are some exceptions with maybe OU or someone like Bama or LSU.
The problem I see from afar the last 15 years has been them taking the wrong players. Texas has taken mediocre QB’s while other elite talent has gone elsewhere. It just takes the correct coach to evaluate and develop the correct talent.
Generally, over a period of time, Texas should consistently beat every school in the Big 12 except OU.
No doubt it hurt badly, but I just can't get behind COVID as an excuse because every team had to face it.i'm not sure how i feel yet about this, but im inclined to agree. i don't think we're particularly good up front, but not awful...and while i think the world of HT, we're a bit lacking elsewhere at MLB/ILB.....
outsid of HT a few times, i don't know how often i see one of our LB's coming free to make a play. i don't feel like it happens that much??? plus i think we've not seen a lot of the exotic stuff we saw glimpses of earlier on in CJP's initiall two years. not saying it's been vanilla...but i don't get the impression it's the "full boat" in regards to the defensive play book.
man, this off season really set us back develomentally....so much lost time for a group of FR and SO that really needed it...and could have benefited a lot from it.
I think our last payment, on his buyout, will dictate when and where he starts looking for a real job. The gravy train is about to dry up.I am the absolute least likely of guys to celebrate Butch's ability, but he's got far more winning seasons than losing. I'm sure he could get a job if he wanted it. Saban wouldn't be keeping him on the sideline if he didn't add some value.
Surlyhorns has been all over it. Flightaware season is in full throttle over there. Supposedly the plane just came back this morning with Chairman of the Board of Regents who had gone up there to meet Urban in person.

I somehow doubt we get invited to any bowl game outside of Tennessee. Fans in the stands will not be a factor this year and the product we put on the field is not very appealing to anyone, anywhere.I would normally support this. I don't this year. I still say we are going to play Rutgers and they are going to whip our ass.
This.Let's dig that hole a little deeper so we can get out easier. Whatever. None of the players going or coming is going to matter with the leadership and coaching that is there.
Losing does not beget success. It is not a necessary part of the process to winning. Have we not learned that in over a dozen years yet? In fact, other than for an occasional wake-up call purpose, it does the opposite because it become the definition of a team's culture. Then the on-field lack of discipline shows up and then the off-field lack of discipline shows up and then the nasty local media shows up and then recruiting gets worse and the cycle continues on and on. Then UT responds with Coach McGoogle and the hype begins only to repeat the cycle. They cannot and should not allow this to continue one day past Saturday.
Cubbie fans - did you really like being known as the "lovable losers" all those years? Some may, most didn't. So when ownership finally had their fill of it they went out hired the very best in the business at the time - Theo Epstein - away from the Red Sox, who had recently won their first WS in forever with Theo at the helm as well. Theo did what Theo does. They hired the best, gave him control and money, he orchestrated the rest. They got their new tradition of winning and a WS ring. They like it now and don't want to go back to being lovable losers again. They learned you make much more money and are happier when you win consistently.
That's how it is done when your program has become mediocre to bottom feeder - like the Vols have been for some time. Cumulatively, the Vols are like 3 games under .500 since Fulmer's last, terminated season. Up and down, but under the mediocre (Mendoza for baseball fans) line.
Preaching to the choir for some of you, but the hole digging has got to stop first. Then they need call in elite professionals to get out of the hole next. That will cost money and pride. We are not the Tennessee of old anymore. Many of the players were not even alive when we were on top. They were too young to know when we still did some good things after the mountain top.
If Texas hires Urban - we all know where they are headed. The same exists with the SEC top programs - they hired the best proven HC's available. If we want in we have to change from top down. Otherwise we are just pizzin' into the wind and stay the unlovable losers and legions of the miserable.
I totally agree with you, but what is scary-- is that at least the intern would not hesitate to put the best talent on the field, which is pathetically more than what our current HC seems to want to do and is now pretty much screwed all around... he was also "all in" with the program and not just going through the motions waiting to get fired for his buyout.
Tony B show just alluded to the Cam Robinson situation from 2016. It sounds basically identical to Bennett's but had a totally different outcome.
I think the point is that Robinson was pulled over and charged with very similar offenses - he was never kicked off the team and the charges were eventually completely dropped. It was "handled internally."I don’t get what the point is as CJP wasn’t the head coach at Alabama, so the decision on how to handle it wasn’t his most likely.
CJP with his handling of Ryan Thaxton, Tim Jordan, Jeremy Banks, etc that his tolerance for shenanigans is low. Banks and Jennings didn’t involve drugs or weapons but both had to fight to get back on the team.
Purely speculation but it’s been suggested that a lot of the old heads still weren’t 100% bought in. This could be a move to eliminate someone causing issues in the locker room.
