Under Long's guidance, the Irish ranked in the top 25 nationally in scoring offense in 2019 (14th – 36.8 ppg) and 2017 (24th – 34.2 ppg). During Long's first season as offensive coordinator in 2017, Notre Dame ranked seventh nationally in rushing at 269.3 yards per game and set single-season school records in rushing yards (3,503) and yards per carry (6.3).

Until that “parting of ways” with ND, Long was considered one of the hot shot up and comer coordinators in CFB.

So you are going to spend the money to buy out the final year of Chaney and Ansley this year, then when Pruitt gets fired next season you are going to have to buy out the final two years of the new coordinators.

That’s actually a good little trick to trim your budget. Anymore everything is tied up in subscriptions you forget about slowly get those little “update payment method” emails and youre able to trim the fat.

I think that is the part that is missing for sure -he will get better. I don't see a guy who isn't trying to get better. He hasn't given up.

Realistically, I’d just like to convert third downs and score more than 17 points.

Oh, and not throw pick sixes.

That would be massive improvement for us.

Let’s be honest, we are not going to out score Florida. They will score every possession at least for the first three quarters.

His track record is more than solid prior to this year. I’d just about bet money that if we were to hire someone like Sarkisian as HC, and he were to retain Chaney and play someone besides JG at QB, everyone would be like “Woah, where did this come from?”

I will never forget sitting in the MSU vs UF game watching Franks dink and dunk his way up and down the field because Shoop had the DBs playing ten yards off the ball. Shoop had one of the best defenses in the country with two first round draft picks on the defensive line (Simmons and Sweat), and rather than forcing Frank’s to make throws deep and over the middle, Shoop kept giving Franks outlet passes that forced his DBs to tackle one on one in space.

It was so dumb. Shoop had the number 1 defense in the country with three first round draft picks (Simmons, Abrams, and Sweat), and Mullen whooped his ass with a sophomore Felipe Franks.

Got to be a skeleton or something in the closet there. How else do you go from that to offesnisve analyst without someone at least snatching you up as a position coach somewhere?

Now look at the games against. Clemson, UGA, Bama, Michigan, USC. Those numbers are mis leading. His offenses racked up stats against bad teams.

It was a late move. He and Brian Kelly hated each other.

Long is a good OC. I guess we'll see if the third time is the charm regarding good OC's and Jeremy Pruitt.
