Recruiting Forum Football Talk III

I went down a youtube rabbit last night and stumbled across a video of Harrison Bailey slinging it up the field when he was 8.

I'm just flabbergasted that they wasted so much time trying to resurrect JG.

He was made to play the position. Anybody who ever saw him play before he came UT knew it. It's an immediate, "there it is" moment. He was far better developed than the other QB's on the Vol roster the day he walked onto campus. Learn the playbook, build chemistry with teammates, go play.

Except Jeremy...

Coordinator Jim Chaney, who came to Tennessee from Georgia in January 2019, is probably on his way out. What looked like a big-time hire for the Vols simply hasn't panned out, especially this season. Tennessee ranks 113th nationally in offensive points scored (18.1 PPG), 116th in third-down conversion percentage (32%), and 105th in both passing (184.3 ypg) and yards per play (4.98). In a season where offensive production is up, the Vols are headed the other way and not getting anywhere near the quarterback development needed to keep pace with Florida and Alabama.
"They're terrible on offense," an SEC assistant said. "It's brutal to watch. It's all about that one spot [quarterback] that's just so bad."
Pruitt already has made one staff change, firing defensive line coach Jimmy Brumbaugh after the fourth game. He likely will focus on offense and a coordinator hire that should shape a make-or-break season in 2021. The status of the rest of the offensive staff will be interesting. Pruitt is close with offensive line coach Will Friend, while wide receivers coach Tee Martin and running backs coach Jay Graham are both decorated former players at Tennessee.
Another factor is the recent news that eight football assistants were the only members of Tennessee's athletic department to decline pay cuts to address pandemic-related financial losses. Martin and Graham were the only assistants who took the reductions.
"It's a really bad look," an industry source said. "It's going to come up every time you lose in the next three or four years. Remember that time that everybody was in a national pandemic and nobody took a pay cut?"

posted on the vandy forums.... ouch if true.

"Bruno said the latest departures are likely due to last weekend's hullabaloo over Sarah Fuller. Players were ticked that a person with 3 days on the team was allowed to make the pre-game speech. Also, she was favored over other kickers already on the team who had been with them since Day One.

No wonder we lost so badly to MO. I am not blaming Sarah but I am blaming the HC for the whole mess. "

Rittenberg is one of the best-sourced college football writers in the country. "Jim Chaney is probably on the way out," is not something to be taken lightly from him.

If Pruitt still has the clout to fire Chaney on THAT contract, he might legitimately have a 5-year guarantee.

UT admins are really envious that Vandy got all that positive Twitter attention. Will probably hire Beth Mowins to be our next head coach. Who cares about winning football games when you can trend on Twitter for an afternoon and impress some blue checkmarks who don't even watch football?

Vandy gonna cancel and we are going to finish 2-7 aren't we?

But who's the replacement. I dont see Pruitt doing anything different so it'll just be another carbon copy of a garbage offense

I purchased espn+ a couple of years ago so I could watch a UT basketball game. It was the only way to watch it. I tried unsuccessfully to cancel it several times with all kinds of reasons why it would not cancel. I finally ended up cancelling my credit card so they could not continue to charge me. I must still be active in their system.

I think Chaney runs an antiquated offense and I’m all for his replacement. Unless he wow me come Saturday with a new QB.

Still, no clue why as bad as the QBs played this year - we never showed any creativity. Hell- could’ve run some Lynn Bowden type plays with Holiday/Callaway. Get them some playing time and see what their speed can do. Anything...
