Recruiting Forum Football Talk III

we have good coaches. they have track record at other schools. why it isnt lining up here?

I think the key thing here is we have good assistant/position coaches that have done well in other systems with good head coaches... Our head coach is just a good coordinator/assistant, and not a good HC, and is abrasive, demanding, and rubs folks and co-workers the wrong way... so it's become a mess.

Nah vandy stat is way more embarrassing
It is, but it "only" goes back 8 years. The struggle has actually gone back further than that.

South Carolina had some good years with Spurrier, but historically they've had very little success, both overall and since they entered the SEC in 1992. More than Vanderbilt, but not much. We have so many more resources than them, and to have a losing record against them over a 13-year period is just a joke.

VQ covering their asses in case Pruitt pulls a rabbit out of a hat and wins out. Don't want to be seen as contributing towards recruiting failures or fan apathy. I think they know he's gone because he's staring down two more blowout losses to end the season.
Right, this has been my point all along.

You can predict and expect to lose, but it always feels worse during and after it happens.

We're penciling in getting destroyed by Florida and A&M and playing Vandy close. We know it's going to suck - but wait til we're seeing it with our eyes.

The money folks won't take it well, getting beat by 30 by our biggest rival, on national TV while Danielson drones on and on about what went wrong with Pruitt.

Take this for what you want, but for the most part, the people making these decisions don't read message boards and follow the opinions of fans throughout the week. They see what happens on Saturdays and respond accordingly.

I like the mindset, I really do, but how does he go about doing that with nothing to sell? How are you going to get the best '22 class with your program 'ishing the bed on the reg, and looking like you don't know how to run a football program? Tell me why a recruit, other than growing up being a die-hard Vol fan, would want to come here now? I am being serious.
His only chance is to play young guys the rest of this season. Keep as best a recruiting class as possible that somehow ends up top 15, grab a few transfers and absolutely throw caution to the wind next year. Let the kids play like madmen. Have their back and be a players coach. I don’t see it happening either way but he’s got to relax and let the team play.

We beat Auburn, Kentucky and Arkansas with good qb play. We look respectable against Georgia with good qb play.
No, Have you seen our defense? They couldn't get a stop if their lives depended on it those games. Its not just QB play. Thats the most glaring issue and 15 others are getting overlooked.

If you had lead with PFF I would’ve got off at the first stop. Same reason I don’t do fantasy football...I like the real game too much. If I was into nerd math, I’d have stayed awake more during Math Bowls. Carry on. I think you won whatever the hell it is we’re talking about.
Buddy.... we gotta get you in a high stakes fantasy league. It will change your life.

I honestly think it’s this simple. Average to good an play and we beat the three you mentioned pretty handily.

Defenses also tend to look a little better when your offense can score points to make up for a couple mistakes.

Of course they don't "read" the message boards and opinions but they're not hibernating, they know how the fan sentiment.

Those teams had a combined 10 offensive points in the first half. Defense hasn’t been as bad as people make them out to be. Only feels that way because the offense puts them in a bad spot by giving the other team a short field or by continually having drives stall out/3 and outs, then they get exposed in the second half from being on the field too much.

What I mean is, they don't get worked up by the day to day ****. We all sit in this forum and bounce ideas off of each other until we get progressively more mad each day.

Those guys write a check at the end of tax season and watch the games on Saturdays. And that's when they get pissed.

i don't think our defense is 'great'.

i don't think they get a lot of help, and worse, they get put in bad situations by our offense.....

i think if our offense was functional, it would really help the defense....a lot.

the turnovers, the pick six's, the fumble/scoop/score...the missed FG's.....there's been a lot of situational football played, that we haven't handled very well offensively, and it has put our defense in a bind at times.

we're sooooo bad on offense, it changes how teams game plan against us....on both sides of the ball. there's literally no pressure on our opponent's defense, so they can game plan accordingly on offense. they can afford to do more, be more dynamic, do different things, use different personnel etc......cause they do not have worry about our offense putting up much of a fight.

i'd say if we had just an average offense, our defense would be a good 'bend but doesn't break' defense...

Way too often are "on the rise" coaches judged by one win here or one win there.

And way too often are current coaches judged by a bad loss here or a bad loss there.

A lot of us ebb and flow based on the outcome of 1 game - that is not the right way to do it.

It should be based on trajectory - what is the big picture of the program and what direction is it heading.

Agreed. Here's our trajectory.

Good thing football is only a one half game then isn't it?

To everyone here doing their eulogy for UT Football today because an undersized LB decommited I feel sorry for y'all, I'm 26, not even old enough to really remember the GOOD times when we were winning the SEC and the Natty and I still haven't lost the faith, the reason for that is because we the fanbase will always keep UT relevant, we're either 1 good coach away or 1 stellar QB away from National relevancy again almost always and that's because we all support the Vols, eventually there will be a hire made that will get it right, or who knows it might be HB developing, Kaidon Salter coming in, or Horn/Simpson in 2022, but eventually the sleeping giant will wake up

Bless your heart.
