Anyone know exact details??
If he’s fired this year UT owes him 13 million?
Then next year? And year after that?

When does his contract expire?

Pruitt gets 60% of his remaining contract, with no mitigation clause. His current contract runs to February of 2026, and starting next season his salary is $4.2 million a year.

So here is an estimate...
Fire before next season - 12.6 million
Fire in/ after 2021 season - 10 million
Fire in/ after 2022 season - 7.5 million
Fire in/ after 2023 season - 5 million
Fire in/ after 2024 season - 2.5 million
Fire in/ after 2025 - minimal cost

So it appears that Fulmer/ UTAD have tied themselves to Pruitt for the next 2-3 years minimum....

So to me it’s all about the recruits and the assistant coaches...Pruitt needs to get his staff corrected to a championship level in the offseason and continue recruiting at a high level...

If he’s able to do this then results will start to show up in 1-2 more years.

Butch is paid off as of this coming February. I'd say the earliest Pruitt is fired is at the end of 2021, but even that is unlikely in my opinion as long as Fulmer is the AD.

I wish more people would understand this. I think the best we can hope for is for Pruitt to improve and get the team in better shape for a new HC in 2022.

Hell, if Pruitt were to win 7 next year Fulmer likely gives him another ridiculous extension.

We'll see about that.

I'm not doubting it would be a huge blow to the Bank.

The question is how much of a financial hit will you take if you keep him! How much lost revenue? Much more I imagine.

People were saying Dooley wasn't going to get fired either because of finances. He didn't even last the season.

Meanwhile present day, even Vanderbilt is showing they're more serious about football than some thought. South Carolina and Vanderbilt were led buy stubborn defensive minded ball control HCs. And now both are gone. You think Fulmer doesn't see this trend.

Pruitt won't win another game this season.
Florida may drop 70 on UT next Saturday.

Keep hope alive! He may be gone in 2020!!

I agree completely. The University athletic department and the donors surely realize how much apathy there is around the program right now. It's harder to judge because they're at 25% capacity in the stands, but they realize that ticket sales were dropping at the end of Pruitt's first year. The loss of Revenue to a department that is used to making a hundred and sixty million dollars a year is definitely going to overshadow the payout over 5 years of 12.5 million dollars. You see, we're going backwards and there's nothing that is indicating that Pruitt has any answers to quarterback development or improvement at any player position since he still is relying heavily on old Butch Jones recruits like Palmer, Brandon Johnson, Trey Smith and Jarrett Guarantano. Eric gray is the one performing player that he has recruited that is consistently out there helping us in games. UT needs to shoot this horse now.

Tennessee hasn't paid Butch anything in a while, at least it hasn't come out of pocket in a while. That buyout money is put into a separate account not long after a coach is let go and payments are distributed by an attorney.

What if we hired a new Head Coach and moved Pruitt to DL coordinator? He'd be the highest paid DL coach, yes, but at least you're getting something for your money. Maybe he'd get disgusted and quit. O.K. Blue font, then.

Surely he won't, but if Pruitt really brings back JG and continues to start him regardless of how poorly he plays, the conversation may shift to we can't afford not to fire him.

The stands would likely look like the pandemic had wiped out our fanbase

Don't forget to factor in several million to get Freeze or whoever out of their contracts.

No staff can overcome a poor HC who has no idea of how to be a HC. Throwing good money after bad to keep JP. Fulmer made a very bad hire.

What an absolute idiot Fulmer is. I liked him until now.
He did same thing with Holly, extended her, then had to can her the next year. All the insiders in here say Pruitts safe, regardless. But that is right now. We lose by 40 to A&M and FL, coupled with a narrow win vs Vandy, or a loss, it might be too much.

Assistant if fired before Dec 1 are about another 7 million but if they are hired at other schools we only pay the difference. Jones deal will end in Feb which has been costing TN 2.4 million a yr. If they work out a 48 month pay off with JP it would only be around 250,000 a month Not a big difference from the 240,000 that BJ is getting. BJ had around a 36 month payoff Total of 8.2 mil

There's about 6 people who have any idea what we are doing and they arent on VN. Fulmer isnt on here. Jimmy Sexton isnt on here. One of the 2 or 3 biggest donors isnt on here. I'm sure theres a few donors that might have some limited access but I doubt we got any of the donors that can make a decision on here.

Given COVID and the behind the scenes politics of aligning our 2-4 biggest donors, Pruitt is likely safe. However, if we lose to Vandy that might help to get some alignment, especially if someone steps up as referenced by @The Original Fade

Here we go............He is not going anywhere, he is IN his 3rd Year, there is no way they are letting him go considering the fricken mess he inherited, and if you don't like some of his coaching decisions.........well, there several coaches WITH HC experience looking for new jobs........so, sit back and watch the show.
