8 Vols assistants reject UT pay cut to help with losses due to covid

Less games, less practice, less work. They should have taken the cut. Now they look like greedy bastards. Not a good look when you combine it with looking like incompetent stooges on the job.

They should all take paycuts based on team performance alone. Actually, I support pay eliminations. Fire them all. Including their command in chief, Mr. Pruitt.

Interesting that Jay and Tee are the only ones who took the cuts. Wonder if Coach Fulmer got those 2 fellers in a room and told them that he would take care of them if the staff was blown out?
No need to do that and hamstring a new staff from day 1

"Those coaches also agreed to waive any incentive compensation they would have been eligible for through June 30, except for incentives for winning an SEC championship or a national championship. Those championship bonuses remain in play."

I don't blame them 1 bit. I wouldn't agree to a paycut either.

Yep. Only an idiot would buy cries of poverty from UT. The "budget" is for paper pushers and fans. There's real money that's always there when needed. And we need it to buy these folks out and hire a real football staff.

Not all of them are making 7 figure salaries. For example, Joe Osovet is making 225,000 this year. Pretty good in my opinion but it is a high pressure job.

Not a leak, public employees ' compensation details and contracts are public records.

"Eight Tennessee football staff members rejected pay cuts that were proposed by the athletic department to help combat financial losses caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, according to documents obtained by Knox News via a public records request. "
Most don't have reading comprehension skills.
It is so much easier to follow the herd on Twitter or Facebook.
Reading is no longer fundamental.
You can tell most on here have not read a book in decades, if ever.
And yes, books are available to read on most personal devices. I am not speaking of strictly printed material. Peer reviewed publications are still the best sources of information. But that's not cool. It does not matter anyway, the only view that could possibly be right on any subject is one's own no matter how ignorant or uneducated it is. I am right... You are wrong.
Get off my damn lawn.

Can't judge.
1. I don't know what bills they might already be committed to paying (like, a house for parents).
2. I don't know what other compensations they might have been promised in the past.

let’s be honest..........if I figured you were going to fire me anyway, but you wanted me to take a pay cut first........I’m not so sure I would be willing to “take one for the team.”

Tennessee football: 8 assistants reject pay cuts. Martin, Graham accept

  • Offensive line coach Will Friend
  • Quarterbacks coach Chris Weinke
  • Inside linebackers coach Brian Niedermeyer
  • Outside linebackers coach Shelton Felton
  • Tight ends coach Joe Osovet
  • Strength and conditioning coach A.J. Artis

Interesting because these above are the coaches who might not be around next year. Some more at risk (Weinke, Felton, Osovet) than others. Nieds should be taken off the field as a coach and returned to a staff job because of his recruiting acumen and track record. He certainly has not earned his keep coaching our LBs...let's nickname him "Slant."

Maybe Pruitt thinks this will make it harder to buy him out if the University is cash strapped and told the other coaches not to take a cut as well.....kinds bad to think that, but it could be the case.

That is too strategic for Pruitt. I have come to the conclusion that he is of average intelligence at best, and absolutely no leadership intelligence.

Pruitt set the stage with his payraise demand which Fulmer willingly waddled into. Once you set that example, what do you expect your overpaid, largely Peter Principle incompetent staff to do? Hell, Will Friend will NEVER sniff $800k a year again, and deep in his obese little heart, he knows that. Same with Chaney and the other dead wood.

Rick Barnes infuriates me during some games, but the guy is a leader and a coach. Took the cut, encouraged his staff to do likewise. Quietly. no fanfare. That is a leader.

Pruitt is, for me, done. Over. But, knowing this is Tennessee, he is probably here at LEAST another season if not 2. I may not watch a game.

I would not want to voluntarily take a pay cut. I can understand why they don’t want to. However, it looks greedy and uncaring when people making big bucks won’t. Maybe they need every penny to pay their bills, but I think that’s doubtful.

That's the point. None of these coaches will ever miss a meal or a boat payment or a 401k contribution if they pitch in financially and accept a cut. However, every dollar that these coaches keep will necessarily come out of the pockets of someone like a secretary, a janitor, or other non-contract employee who will then struggle even more to get by. Pathetic.

Boohoo.
